Glazers to consider selling Manchester United? Official: Ratcliffe Acquires 25% of United shares

As Qatar wasn't willing to increase it's bid to buy them out the situation was either things staying exactly as they are which is no good for anyone or we at least get a new voice within the club to try and change things for the better.
i think that's naive, if you think he's going to come and in change things then you need a wake up call. All this has done has show how greedy the Glazers are, with no regard for the club or fans. A minor stake holder coming in isn't going to change that.

Someone needs to come up with a deal to get them out.

I'm sorry, but all this is, is the slow death of the club starting.

What I don't understand, is he's coming with 1.3b for 25%, which values the club at 5.2b.

Isn't that roughly what the Sheikh bid?

And 1.3b, that will barely fix the stadium situation

What about clearing the 1b debt.

The other bid was buy the club outright, clear debts, new stadium and training, work in the community and money for players.

I mean this is just a joke what's going on. Clearly the other bid was what is best for the club, but the Glazers don't care about that, just themselves, so whatever is going on here, is going to line the Glazers pockets, and f%^k the club, as per usual.

Im not believing all this BS that Ratcliffe's team is coming out with about looking at expanding the ground, just to try and get the fans onside. That process started about 3 years ago. He's just a Glazer monkey, he'll do as he's told, because he has no power.

FFS

the rumour now is, the Glazers were upset with the Sheikh's opening comment that he wanted to bring the club back to former glories. So that put them off his bid.

Jesus, do they actually think what's been happening over the last 10 years is acceptable? Do they not see we have a long way to get back to be where we should be, a club this big, with this revenue genration. They must actually think the are doing a good job, increasing debt, fascilities rotting, nowhere near competing for the big comps.

I hate them even more, ego over the club.

If Qatar had offered enough of what Glazers were asking for then the sale would have already been done and dusted. I don’t think any comments would have hindered that sale.

Ratcliffe is a smart guy and won’t just hand over £1.3bn without a clear plan in the future and a clear direction of what he wants to control now. He has been business for donkeys years and owns multiple sports teams, this isn’t his first rodeo. The way some fans make out is that he’s some idiot coming in who has no idea about business and will just be a Glazer bitch. This of course won’t be the case.

Of course he is a Glazer bitch he has no power at all. If he wants to do something, they can stop it. If they want to do something he doesn't, he can't stop it.

The teams he took over/invested, cycling, stopped winning, Mercedes, stopped winning, Nice, fans want him out.

Jeez Mr C would definitely get put on the naughty step by Redcafe for such continued negativity on the takeover.

So trying to look at Ratcliffe's plans to appoint a Sporting Director who is the better candidate out of Mitchell/Edwards.

So are you gonna find another club to support or just keep hoping Jassim comes back like we saw with the Saudi's and Newcastle

For it to be a takeover, you need someone to get a majority stake.
Which is what I would like to see rather than another 10 years of the glazers destroying the club

Are you blaming Ineos for Mercedes going through a rocky patch? Hamilton actually won in the year Ineos invested. And lost by the barest of margins the year after!

He has successful cycling and sailing teams as well. So there are positives but if you look for negatives you’ll find them anywhere.

Would you prefer no investment whatsoever? I just don’t get how this isn’t a positive for you? Albeit a small one? Or did you want us to be a shiny state thing even if it would mean we would be no better than City, PSG etc? I want the Glazers out but not at the expense of our soul.

He might change things he might not we just don’t know. One thing we know about INEOS in sport is they strive for excellence but they don’t always get it right. They are ambitious and demand the best but it’s very hard to be perfect in football especially if you own an underdog.

People have had over a year no one is coming with the offer to take the Glazers out of the club at a price they wanted to accept.

The slow death started in 2005 when the Glazers lumped their debt on it. Fergie kept the good times rolling until 2013 but since he went those calling the shots have proven they are incompetent at running a football club on the pitch.

The reports were the Qatar bid valued the club at $6bn. The Glazers own 69% of the shares so they would have banked them $4.14bn. It seems Qatar we’re not willing to budge from their valuation and have reached stalemate and have walked away.

Sir Jim is offering to buy 25% of the shares at a valuation of $6bn this will reduce the Glazer holding from 69% to 51% with the rest of the shares being purchased from the public share holders at the same price. What isn’t clear yet is will all 6 Glazers retain shares or are some family members selling.

The Glazers are gambling that in the future the club will be worth more than $6bn meaning they can sell another chunk or all the stock at a higher price. So they feel with this deal they’ll get more than $4.14bn when they eventually sell up.

Everything about INEOS suggests their plan will be to complete a full takeover in the future to own 100%. It’s likely until they reach that point the debt will remain on the club and stadium plans will just remain sketches on a piece of paper.

I'm not laying the blame at mercedes on him, I was answering the statement posed that he'd be good because he runs successful sports teams

Yet the sports teams he owns aren't exactly successful. He's taken over previously successful teams and they've not won since.

I think it's clear what I want, the Glazers out, in an ideal world I'd like some fan ownership like munich, 50+1. But that's never going to happen.

And no I'm not happy about getting some minor share holder. I want the Glazers out. And this means we have them for many more years

If you think this is suddenly going to turn us into winners, you are deluded

Old stadium, old training, 1b in debt, that all remains

Players looking glum all the time playing awful football. There's not much soul there.

I've just been contemplating this.

I think I only support united now because it's inbuilt, it's part of me. I can't not support them.

But I actually don't like them anymore.

The glazers have done this to me, taken my club away.

Are you serious this is Manchester United you are talking about here we will rise again the Glazers will never take our club away

I don't totally disagree with all of this, there is a lot not to like about the current situation and the fact there isn't really a way out of it just makes it feel even worse.

I don’t think the Glazers would be as much of an issue to fans if we were in a period of success. It is intensified because we are in a real rut with no real sign of turning a corner despite a few false dawns.

Don’t get my wrong I want the Glazers out as much as the next fan but my love for the club will never dwindle. Celebrate in the good times and hope for better in the bad times.

actually, I'm not governed by sucess really. My main priority is to enjoy watching us, which I don't really do at the moment, our football is pretty bad. And not necessarily the Glazers fault on the surface, but in depth is wholly their fault

The problem I have with the Glazers is not the success, it's the years of bad running of the club. Borrowing a huge sum to buy the club, without any interest in paying it off. This money could have updated the stadium and the training. We are probably top 2 or 3 biggest clubs in the world, but we a run like a tin pot outfit, we should have the best of everything.

Installing people to run the club who have no knowledge of football, buying the wrong players for huge sums, because they don't understand. Giving out long expensive contracts. We have a squad of players so highly paid we cannot get rid of them.

We should be a club where 99% of players want to come, but we aren't. We don't make the cl very often and when we do, it's clear we are nowhere the level.

I think ywo season ago they started looking at the ground, this should have been an ongoing process years in the making.

The womens team had no showers at their training facility when they started. They let Russo walk free, and probably Earps will too.

It's just all wrong.

It's very sad what they have done to club, it's like extracting all the oil out of an oil field until there is nothing left and the ground collapses. They don't even try and hide their contempt for the fans and club, just extract as much money as they can. The fans can sing and do what they want out at the ground. Glazers won't even know, I doubt they even watch us play. Compare them to Ryan Reynolds for example re: being involved with the club

I suspect there will be some form of written agreement over what control the 25% stake gives INEOS in terms of board positions and the delegation of power to the INEOS board members.

Seems crazy that the majority owners are willing to delegate the running of the football side of things to a minority shareholder but this is the Glazers they don't seem to do anything in a traditional way.

its not going to happen, they'll have a veto somehow.

Ineos going to continue sponsoring spurs

Glazers still fumbling, Ineos partial purchase will not happen in time for Jan transfer window

Rumour is a new football committee, with Ratcliffe, Joel G and Brailsford, yes, Brailsford. We're doomed

Haven't Nice got their act together again this season?

There's also talk that they'll bring in people underneath them to run the day to day operation they'd almost be an executive level board that sign off the major decisions.

no, it's more everyone else is rubbish.

They've had somethig like 5 managers in 5 tears

Very hard to compare running Nice to how you would expect them to run Utd.

The big question I see is what would happen to the like of Murtough and the things he's been building over the last 2 or 3 years. Will Ratcliffe and Brailsford look to work with the existing people and help them improve things or will they look to move them all out and replace them with their own people.

Would be a lot of focus on Brailsford given the doping allegations that come with him and his whole marginal gains philosophy that he built his reputation on came under scrutiny when it turns out he was exploiting loopholes in the doping system to boost performance. The moment he takes a role at Utd the whole world will be focusing on that again and linking it to Utd... role on the next media sh*tstorm!

Isn't that what we've already done under Arnold though?

He has taken over as Chief Exec and delegated power to Murtough for the football decision making which he is now accountable for.

He has Andy O'Boyle and Darren Fletcher working under him on the men's side and Polly Bancroft on the women's side.

The budgets are still set by the owners but the decision making over how that money is spent now falls to Murtough to control.

Nah it’ll be another Glazer man taking over the top role they’re not going to let INEOS pick the Chief exec.

Interesting thought I saw the other day that needs to be answered. It isn’t clear if the INEOS offer to buy 25% is them buying existing shares which only benefits the owners of those shares or the creation of new shares with existing shareholders agreeing to dilute their holding.

The later would see the money go directly from INEOS to Man Utd as investment and given the whole process was about attracting investment from a business point of view it seems the more logical outcome.
