chelsea would appear a mess to me, I don't think it's a simple choice. You're signing a contract for 4 or 5 years not next season. The question is which club do you think will be better over the length of your contract

If he leaves Barca (and I remain sceptical that he will) then I think there's a better chance he ends up at Chelsea. A better team right now who are willing to spend money to improve and the chance to live in London. Sorry but that's the reality for United. Things took so long (not their fault) that this was always a risk. Sadly Arnold and Murtough are going to end up with egg on their face.

Are Chelsea really in a better state? Look at the off the pitch mess they are in. No one wants to be associated with them at the moment and half the team are trying to escape. If our squads were reversed you'd be going on about how poor the squad was.

I was literaly talking to a Chelsea fan for 5 hours last night whilst we played Fifa. He was moaning about the state their side are in and how he expects them to finish 6th this season and Tuchel to be gone when this mess isn't his fault.

They've got no striker. A 36 yr old CB who can't play in the system Tuchel is trying to move to 2 out of form keepers. Ended last season poorly have been spanked throughout their preseason and are starting massively on the back foot. He said 'Our only hope is that Gallagher has the impact Mount and James did or we aren't challenging this season'.

Both teams are in a sorry state. But whilst United seem to have turned a corner Chelsea look like they might be about to hit the freefall. I think they'll have a similar season this year to the one we did last. There's a reason they're being linked to everyone about and that's because it's panic stations.

Chelsea to me are a huge gamble to sign for.

There's new owners the entire leadership team that made the big decisions with the owner is now gone as well.

The squad looks to me to be a bit all over the place and needs some serious sorting out over this summer and next summer but they don't have Roman's billions to pay that bill anymore.

Most of the recent big money signings have been duds Kepa, Werner, Haveartz, Pulisic and Lukaku have all failed to live up to their price tags.

Looks like they're losing key dressing room individuals in Rudiger and Azpilecueta this summer.

I mean we are not exactly the lean and mean fighting machine we should be but for me you're taking as big a gamble going to Chelsea as you are going to Utd at the moment.

I think so overall yes. They aren't in a great state but I didn't say they were. I think they are in an interesting phase but they are clearly willing to spend the cash. I mean let's just look at this for a second...

They signed Koudabily who I think is going to be a fantastic signing. They were in for Kounde so got to assume they are going after another CB. They have agreed a deal with Cucharella and they've signed Sterling. Plus the rumours are hotting up with De Jong so I can see that one happening. I think it's more likely he joins them that United.

So no they aren't great but they are in a better position than United and are clearly willing to spend. They'll sign at least another 2 whereas I'm not sure United get another 1 but if they do it'll be a max of 1.

If United signed a 31 yr old Koulibaly and a back up left back would you be rating the signing?

I think it's absurd Chelsea are spending £52m on a back up to Chilwell.

Chelsea fans think it's absurd. They think it highlights that they're just throwing money at it without thinking. Which is exactly what you'd say about United.

As for Sterling. Do you honestly think you'd be raving about it if we signed him? I think it's a decent signing. But he needs a top man to play off of. Chelsea don't have it. And he might not even make their starting 11. And probably wouldn't ours.

Koudabily is a top CB so yes I'd be happy. And a back up LB? I think he's going to be the starter.

And Sterling is a very very good signing and to say he probably wouldn't make the United starting XI shows your huge United bias my friend.

I like Sterling.

That apart, chelsea are a mess on and off the pitch. Their new owner seems to using it as a status and not really approaching the on field problems.

Chelsea have done okay with their transfers but wouldn’t be raving about them. Koulibaly replaces Rudiger and for me is a bit of a question mark. He’s 31 now and has always been touted about as a great defender but never left Napoli before now.

Sterling is a good signing but have never rated him as highly as others, if he had signed for United instead of Chelsea I wouldn’t that excited.

They need another centre back and while Lukaku was pants for them, they do need another striker.

I would say their transfer business in is basically the same as ours right now. Cucurella would be a good signing but £50m on a left back when they already have Chilwell and Alonso. He can play as a left sided centre back but then they have just bought Cucurella. Their transfer business is a little baffling and is a bit scattergun.

The most important piece of transfer business for united is not De Jong. It's finding a club for Ronaldo. Because he will eat away at that dressing room like a cancer.

Why will Chelsea definitely get another two and United may not even get 1? You say we are biased but your comments are so against United, it’s unreal.

If Sterling was this 'top top' player City wouldn't be eager to move him on to get Grealish more game time. He has looked a lot better than he is due to the amount of chances City create his finishing is woeful but he got 4/5 chanced a game.

Because it is my opinion that they will. They seem willing to spend the money whereas we know United aren't so much. And they are being more active. They'll sign another CB because they wanted Kounde and had a deal agreed.

I lke Sterling, more based on his Englan appearances. He's not exceptional, but he is a good player. He's a good signing.

Are you judging that on he gets picked for England? because if so then you have to go along with the argument on Maguire being the best CB (English)

I like Sterling, but I'm not picking him above Rashford.

I think they've signed 2 players (Sterling and Koulibaly) who's best years are behind them hence why their clubs have cashed in on them now there might still be a few good years left in them yet but there time at the very top is probably over. The left back signing makes no sense. Signing De Jong makes no sense.

On those 3 lads they've done best part of £150m and they still haven't got a centre forward or a centre half.

Chelsea's transfer policy this summer to me looks desperate they want to spend money but there seems to be very little thought behind it.

They are all very similar in terms of quality. Put Rashford and Martial in the City side they are scoring as many or maybe more than Sterling did.
We could debate this all day my friend. You think Rashford and Martial are up there in quality alongside Sterling. I don't.

On De Jong, what are peoples thoughts at the moment then?

I don't think he's as good as this drawn out saga is making him seem, I hope it doesn't add too much pressure on him.

My actual feelings are, De Jong and Sesko in - Ronaldo, Telles, Lindelof out.

I'd say it's 50/50 that he leaves.

I just can't see us staying in the race this long unless we've had a pretty strong statement from his agent that as long as Barca sort out his wages it's happening if they don't pay him off he'll stay. He must be pretty confident that eventually they'll buckle and pay him off to go but they seem to be cracking on with the worlds biggest credit card spending spree at the moment.

We probably are desperate this guy is miles better than the alternatives he is top tier in his position and if it wasn't for this contract issue Barca wouldn't be forcing him out the door. This may be why Utd are waiting as he is the dream ETH signing.

If I was betting on where he'll be playing after the window shuts I'd say 40% Barca, 40% Utd, 20% Chelsea.

Another day and still no new developement.
I thinks it's time for the breaking news.
He is saying at Barca.
To bad for us, FDJ was an opportunity to cheat your way up by getting a top tier player now, when we don't deserve it.
It's time to move on and go the hard way by getting a player just a little better than McTominay, to keep hope for a top 4 finish.
I will be happy with Laimer, Neves or Tielemans as a replacement for FDJ.

Apparently, Barça are 150m € short to register there new players. They said that Laporta can sell Barca studio for 100m but will still be 50m short.
FDJ transfer is on.

I know what you mean and there's a part of me that does think you're right. Would they have stayed in the race this long if they weren't getting positive messages from his side. But this is United and it really wouldn't be unlike them would it.

Considering United had a 3 month head start on signing FDJ I would consider it an absolute embarrassment if he ends up going to Chelsea....I for one was hoping that United would improve their performance in the transfer market once Woodward moved on etc etc....but turns out its as shambolic as ever...laughing stock...oh yeah...Ragnik promised a new team over the summer....really?? Which summer was he on about?

A single ball of the new season hasn’t even been kicked and people are losing their minds. Think we need to give ETH’s philosophy a chance and we have made a couple of signings and potentially a couple more to come. Chill your jets.

The thread is about a potential signing so the fact a ball hasn't been kicked is irrelevant....if there's a thread on EtH philosophy then I will gladly post on there as and when it's appropriate to do so

You stated that our performance in the transfer market is as shambolic as ever. So you generalised our entire transfer performance and I was merely stating that we should be giving the new signings and the manager a chance before declaring we are still ‘a laughing stock’.

Not gonna argue with fellow fan....in relation to FDJ if he ended up at Chelsea after all our efforts then, I feel, that label would be justified (most non Utd fans do laugh at us mind you)....however could all just be media waffle and no harm done

I mean to be fair to most I think they have good reason to be concerned or to lose their minds. The club hasn't been run well for a few years now and what's the evidence right now to suggest that's going to change? The transfer window for United has been very very poor there's no getting away from that right now.

So I'm comparison to Chelsea who are doing good work we've both signed a CB and a LB and they've signed a winger who probably doesn't start for them. They lost their main striker and 2 of their main 3 defenders. But they're doing well and we are doing terribly.

Hasn't the United way always been to use youth too? Surely you see the potential of Iqbal and Garnacho?

I think you're more concerned than the fans themselves.
