Do you mean Bruno?

He had a really poor end of last season, his stats this season aren't great, especially post Ronaldo.

He's not undropable for me. Great player for us, been amazing, but I think he's dropped off a bit. We can't pick players because of what they've done in the past.

Why aren't we giving Pogba a go in there, Sancho and Greenwood wide.

We have Donny on the bench, I didn't watch Ajax, but I assume he showed some quality for Madrid to want him and us to buy him. I read on here we don't play the formation he played at Ajax so he is struggling. So lets give that formation a go, lets put him there and try and get the best out him.

Lets try something different is all I'm saying. I don't for one minute think I know best here, all I am trying to highlight is, there are other options rather than persisitng the one we know isn't working.

We might drop better players, but will the team be better is the key.

I hear on here all the time, we are team of individuals. So let's try and put a team out. I can't believe, with the squad we have, we can't put out a group of 11 players that can play together and beat Villa and a depleted Everton.

We don't have to put the 11 best players out and hope they can gel.
Jeez, it'll be Valentine cards with us next, but again I agree with what u r saying

Since Ronaldo arrived it's 1 goal and 1 assist in the league for Bruno they did combine for Ronaldo's goal in the CL it's fair to say those two haven't clicked yet but they will once they get used to playing with each. At the moment I think they get in each others way sometimes as Ronaldo likes to drop off the front rather than run in behind which brings him into spaces Bruno likes but Bruno needs to use that movement to go in behind.

I certainly wouldn't call him undroppable no player should ever have that status I think Lingard being around gives us chances to rest him and bring him off in games where he is getting tired and struggling to have an impact.

The issue I see this season is none of our defenders have really looked at their best all had slugglish starts to the season and midfield has been a problem. They aren't protecting the defence, keeping the ball or creating much.

He needs a core group of players to find their form and be reliable so there's always a platform to build on for me that means picking a consistent side for a few games and resisting the urge to change it as often as he has been.
He's had almost 3 yrs to decide his core group

Again, that’s a bit of an overreaction. I would say a lot of PL clubs would take Fred if he was available right now. Obviously not the very top ones, which is probably a fair assessment of the player he is.
They absolutely wouldn't. He's just not a good player. I mean ok sure maybe one of the teams who are going to be relegated would take him... But that says it all.

I agree and in terms of starters I’d say he’s certain over De Gea, AWB, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, Bruno, Ronaldo (and Ronaldo certainly wasn’t the plan until the very last minute)

That leaves 4 positions where he’s still trying to work out his best option.

Not having a clearly defined style makes it hard for players to come in and out as the job feels like it changes depending on who plays.

When Pogba comes in for Fred they play totally differently other top sides don’t seem to have the extreme varieties in style for positions.

Disagree. Aston Villa ran circles around our midfield, for instance, why would they downgrade by taking Fred? Villa are in 10th, Arsenal 11th. He wouldn't get anywhere near a functioning Arsenal side.

Not sure anybody played well against Villa and a midfield(er) can only do their jobs properly if those behind and in front of them do theirs properly or they've got two much ground to cover, and if they are outnumbered as well they're on a hiding to nothing.

Do Arsenal do functioning teams these days? Asking for a Tottenham supporting friend.

All I can say having read this and similar threads on other forums is there must have been a hell of a lot of blokes that lost their first loves/wives/boyfriends/others to somebody called Fred.

I'm someone that's always liked and defended Fred until recently. This season he's been abysmal. On current form he doesn't get in the City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Leicester, Brighton, West Ham, Villa, Wolves or Leeds starting 11.

I can't say enough about the promoted 3 sides to know.

He's been in poor form no doubt about that but like anyone he'll be suffering from the constant rotation we pick a different midfield nearly every game and all our options are so different we don't really have a like for like replacement for any of our midfielders.

Wish some of yous would cut the guy some slack, yeah he's off his game at the minute, but he spent most of the Summer travelling vast distances playing for Brazil featuring 8 times, compared to the English lads that played less and only had to leave London once - yet who held his hand up and offered to come back early when it was obvious we'd be short on numbers ....

I don't doubt his effort. Just his quality.

But if he's tired and it's affecting his game than he should be made unavailable for selection and given a rest until he's up to fitness.

However he's been in this run of form since November last season this isn't a blip.

He will likely miss the next game due to the internationals in South America.

Not due to Covid but issues around getting back in time.

There will be some fans getting the bunting out and eating lashings of ice cream and jelly at that joyous news :D

Then there will be those of us who'll think oh God it'll probably mean we'll have to watch Pogba try and fail miserably to perform in a 2 :(

Totally agree with everybody on the forum that we really missed Fred yesterday. Christ it was that bad I think we even missed Pogba!

Shout out to Fred been much improved in the last two games.

Shame he couldn't punish the mistake by Mendy at the end to make it 2-1 chipping the keeper from 25 yards out obviously isn't his skill set and it was a tame effort but his work rate to get up and press to force that mistake just like he did mid week was top class.

It was very similar to the pressure he applied mid week that resulted in the Ronaldo goal.

Not really sure the pass was on he had to shoot but I think that finish kind of sums up Fred worked hard to get the ball but then when he gets it he hasn't got the ability to really hurt the opponent.

Fred may be a real beneficiary of the Rangnick appointment. The one thing he can do is work hard and press.

True but hard work can only get you so far as a footballer you have to have the ability to go with it.

No point buzzing around the pitch putting pressure on players if you can't play when we do have the ball.

I think the ones who might really benefit will be the younger attacking players who are about to learn a new way of playing which if they can grasp will get them big results.

Yeah let's take the piss out of a lad that was a major doubt because of injury but who was still going strong at the end of the match.

We wouldn't be in this current predicament if we had a few more like Fred who granted is limited in some parts of his game(but you could say that about most of the squad) who always gives 100% for the cause.

Not having a go so much at you Rash more the moron on twitter who has finally worked out how to use his etch a sketch.

you really think we need more like Fred?

I agree he's a trier, but he really isn't the quality we need. Him and Mctom are upgraded we are a different team.

That trier has started 12 of the last 13 Brazil internationals keeping Fabinho out of the team.

Cue the 'yeah but Brazil aren't very good at the minute'

Neither of those are true. He's missed 2 of the last 6 games.

And Fabinho generally starts alongside him when he plays.

If you're gonna correct me at least try and be correct yourself.

Tite usually plays 4-2-3-1, with Casemiro(10 starts in the World Cup qualifiers) usually paired with Fred(12)in the two, Fabinho has started 6 and come on 4 times.

Fabinho has started 5 of the last 6 Brazil games. Fred 4.

I'm unsure on what point you're trying to make.

But he's clearly not started 12 of the last 13 or keeping Fabinho out the side.

Fred has missed two internationals in the calendar year, once injured, and once when United stopped him travelling because of covid, in every other game he has partnered Casemiro at the expense of Fabinho, apart from two away matches where Tite played all three, and Fabinho partnered Fred in a couple of games where Casemiro was absent, he also started twice at right-back with Danilo switching to the left.

If it's that important for you to be right, fine, let's just ignore the facts.

And the game Fabinho missed in the last 6 would also be presumably because he couldn't travel.

The facts are Fabinho isn't being kept out the side at the moment because he's in it and Fred hasn't played 12 of the last 13 internationals. I'm not the one ignoring facts or stating false facts.

Can we just agree that we need a more talented player who works as hard as Fred.

Working hard should be a minimum requirement not a nice to have when it comes to our players.

Fred isn't starting games at any of the current top 3 he might be a squad player but everyone fit he's not starting.

Hopefully we have a look at Bissouma in January.

Think clubs might hold off on him until they find out if he's going to be facing charges over that arrest a few weeks back.

He was arrested but haven't seen anything about him facing charges.

We've been linked to Haidara from Leipzig and there's also Kessie on a free this summer who we could be looking at.

You would expect midfield is going to get the main focus in terms of spending in the next summer window.

Fred is at a point where we need to make a decision on him contract can't have much longer to run on it he joined in 2018 so the club either need to extend him or maybe look to sell him on.
