Back to serious business after the non-entity of the Manchester derby!

We have definitely performed better in the EL of late, so hoping that can see us get an important away win to take back to OT.

Lyon have always been a tricky team over the years, I remember they had some really good teams in the CL when we were regulars in that competition. Their quality has dipped in recent years but still got some good players in their ranks including our former player Matic.

Cherki is one to watch for them. Has always seemed to have a questionable attitude but supremely talented guy. Then a couple of former Arsenal players in Maitland-Niles and Lacazette in their squad.

Discuss away.

Maybe don't provoke it and it won't happen?

Utd are unbeaten in europe this season so hopefully we can keep that run of form going.

Haven't seen any news yet regarding injuries but we need one of De Ligt or Maguire to make it really otherwise that back line is going to be hampered.

Big question ahead of that will be does he play Bruno as a centre mid or in the front 3.

Hard to see us blowing them away but a win would be a huge boost with the second leg to come.

These really are the only games that matter for the rest of the season.

Probably depends on the result but still there's no need for it.

I think this game will probably come down to how well Bruno plays. He's in amazing form and if he continues that in both legs, we should win the tie. Lyon don't have a player close to his level.

The obvious worry is goals, we need to find some in both legs.

We also need to keep Onana out of the game as much as possible. We can't just keep gifting them the ball back every 30 seconds.

I can't see where our goals from, awful no 9 and Garnacho in shocking form.

Hojlund has got 5 goals in the Europa this season

We win this tie.

Amorims formation has worked in Europe. Said it before the last tie. The wing backs get to play as wing backs not full backs. Get to survive the 90 because they aren't being run ragged. We don't end up playing a 5-4-1 in a slower paced competition.

I think we win it unless we play Tottenham. But I've said that since the draw was made.

Also think the competition obviously benefits Hojlund.

Its 65/35 in our favour for me.

How long before the ETH gate crasher enters the room...?
I assume you'll deal with this correctly @Sideshow Bob

When it was the other way around and everyone was abusing ETH (Which i haven't with Amorim just stated i don't believe his formation works and the facts) i was told to realise that opinions are different and not to bring people up in threads.

I have showed nowhere near the abuse people did to ETH. I have just stated (correctly) he done a much better job than Amorim has so far.

This is yet again for probably the 5th time the same poster has made a sly personal attack and it's been ignored.

I'd like to publicly ask why.

And to highlight this post and make it clear who keeps derailing threads

Ah Matic the original Casemiro.

A top class player signed just as he was running out of gas, gave us 1 good year then became a very expensive squad player.

Only realised he was at Lyon a earlier this week when I was listening to a preview for the game I thought he'd retired.

Matic has bounced around a bit since he left us. I would say Lyon is probably going to be his last gig unless he’s offered some good money from Saudi or the MLS.

Like with so many other players over the years, we bought him when he was starting to get over the hill. Hopefully that’s all changed now and we are starting to buy players who are on that verge of promising or truly established and at the right age.

I reckon Lyon will be his last gig he's 37 in the summer.

MLS and Saudi aren't going to chuck money at a guy like Matic.

Genuinely thought he retired/was in Saudi/MLS, they must play walking football in France.

Still, I’m a big fan of him calling Onana shit.

I like Onana’s response to Matic being a little sensitive.

I mean Onana has had the last laugh on that one as long as he doesn't chuck one in his own net tomorrow.

Just seen the Matic clip I reckon that journalist that asked Matic the question has really done the dirty on Onana there.

People speaking in their second language probably deserve a bit of slack for things they say.

The whole quote Onana was very respectful taking 1 line out of it is a real sh*tty thing to do in my opinion.

Can’t argue with Matic on that one Onana really is shit, let’s hope he uses the criticism to good effect to get some motivation from it.

It’s petty and immature, I suggest you both put each other on ignore.

Unchanged team! That’s a collectors item!

Good to see the bench looking a little healthier as well.

Come on United!

Yep good to see the injured players returning to bolster that bench. Amad is back in light training as well so hopefully we will see him again this season.

Cagey start Lyon happy to sit off which is forcing Utd to go long but we haven’t been able to win that 2nd ball yet.

Good chance for Hojlund there just didn’t get hold of it.
