Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

I would let De Gea go this summer he’s on massive wages and he cannot play the short game at all, the club needs to move on, no one will buy him just let him go. Utd I think have to look at signing 2 keeper this summer let De Gea go and sell Henderson.

Utd have an option to extend on both which they will do with Rashford.
That would be frustrating....anyone who thinks he deserves to wear a United shirt has mud in their eyes...the lad peaked years ago....if anyone looks like they are in the comfort zone it's him....EtH needs to be ruthless

If you think that, you still sign him up, he's one of the only players we'd get money for.

Possibly. I mean, I don't hate having him as my keeper, but if we're paying him like the best keeper in the league, we should expect that level of performance, and that ain't happening now, or at any time in the future. It's more about the ability to get a fee. If we can sell him, then take up the option and sell him, if not, then let him walk on a free. The important part is getting him off the wage bill, and bringing in a keeper more suited to playing out of the back.

Utd could extend and sell this summer.

With him I’d say keep but no pay rise and I’d be using him only from the left.

He isn’t a centre forward but we’ve seen in games where the opponent is going to offer us space in behind he is lethal. Times his runs perfectly and is a very good one vs one finisher. There is a place for a player like that in the squad but he won’t be a guy who starts every game.

Utd need a top quality number 9 next summer.

they need more than that

reality, we need GK, CB, CM, CF minimum then RB

I can see a lot of this squad being sold to be honest. And rightly so, they haven't performed for too many years.

They won't be sold though because who's going to buy them.

GK, RB and CF for me are the priorities they weren't addressed last summer and we are short in those positions.

I'd hope Utd are even looking at doing something in one of those spots in January. The CF spot should be addressed immediately and whatever the cost if a top centre forward is available.

Oblak is in the last 12 months of his contract.

Let's see an Oblak/De Gea switch.

EDIT: Scrap that just read he did end up signing a new deal over the summer.

Even then I think that's a terrible idea he's got the exact same problems De Gea has.

Great shot stopper but he can't play the passing game.

We need to find an Allison guy who can do it all but these guys are like unicorns.

He fits the brief of what we need but I think mentally he's not got what it takes.

Not sure I'd have RB that far down the list. We need a modern fullback with the ability to defend as well as cross a ball.

Has reiterated to the squad that new contracts will not be discussed until the second half of the season, right now the only focus is on results.

Robin Van Persie is currently at Carrington gaining experience as he continues his development as a coach.

Can't hurt having a finisher of his ability about.

They've already got Benny McCarthy in I think Rashford credited his improvement in the air this season to working with Benny.

Not sure if RVP is working with the first team or academy but good to see people like that coming in for a few weeks as part of their development.

From memory he was talked about as one of the potential options for ETH's coaching staff when he was appointed. Think he's currently working at Feyenoord but is using their break in the season to spend some time at Carrington.

RVP is the best striker we ever had in my opinion.
Woah, woah, woah. I absolutely adored Ruud, so will have to disagree with you there. Every time Ruud was through on goal you almost started celebrating before the ball hit the net, as there was usually only one outcome.

Same with Eric one on one, always going to be a goal, don't think I've ever seen a better one on one player than Cantona.

But RVP scored all manner of goals, you look at his goal reel for united it's phenominal, and he won us that 20th title really. And if you take his whole body of work, I think RVP is the better player.

But yeah, there is no answer to this, both great, just who you prefer I guess.

Ruud was the better goal scorer but Van Persie was the better player.

In terms of individual season I'd say the Van Persie was the best season a striker has had for Utd. The variation of goals he scored was incredible both feet, headers, volleys, inside the box and outside the box. Scored against pretty much all the main rivals that season as well.

their career goals to games and international are pretty similar, so I'm not even having Ruud is the better goal scorer :p

This is off Wikipedia club records Ruud was 521 games 328 goals (I didn't include his games/goals in the second tier in Holland), RVP 593 games 272 goals.

International 70 games 35 goals to 102 games 50 goals is dead even basically a 1 in 2 record.

So club record Ruud is well clear but RVP didn't really play as a centre forward until his mid 20's.

Oh what we'd give now for a striker anywhere near the level of these two in their prime.

The wiki I saw had league as RVP 435 - 204 (2.1) and Ruud at 449 - 429 (1.8) so not much in it.
But yeah, I'd love either of these two now

I did goals in all comps.

Ruuds record in European matches is crazy 92 games 62 goals Van Peris was 99 games 29 goals.

Utd have got to go out and find a striker who's in their prime when you think about it they haven't actually replaced Lukaku who was meant to be that guy he was sold after 2 years and ever since then it's just been pensioners to plug a gap.

I think it's the hardest position to buy for as even a guy who's a gamble costs an absolute fortune if they've had 1 decent season as everyone is looking for the next Lewendowski/Benzema/Saurez/Kane.

For me the RVP 2013 season was the second best I've seen it a United shirt.

He carried that front line to the title. Fergie knew he was on his way out as much as he says he didn't and went and got the best forward he could to get him his final title.

We were a better team with RVP in the side. We were a worse team with RVN.

It's one of those that irks me a bit RVN. Yes his numbers are off the scale. But as a team we scored less.

Still think Ole was the more technical finisher, he found ways to score goals(oft very important ones as well)from positions/angles very few would or could, RVN was a master at taking chances he probably should do or you'd expect from a top striker, and RvP had a wand of a left-foot but usually relied on power.

Ole was a master of shooting through a defenders legs as they tried to block shots.

taking the right touch to force the defender to stretch for a block then using that gap to hide the ball from the keeper.
