Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

So are you saying it's not his fault? That he hasn't had enough time to recruit the right players, and it's more of a club recruitment problem? Or something like that?

I feel like ETH would have had plenty of say in most of the signings, and had input as to whether they were/are a good fit for his system.

I’m saying I don’t know whose fault that is. I would say the selection of players is at least partly his fault (he has a veto) but the fee/wages are not. That would probably fall on Murtough.

We wasted way too much time messing about in his first summer on De Jong.

I think this summer there was clearly a bit of a 1 in 1 out policy. The more players that we could sell the more we could buy. No move for Casemiro or Eriksen meant he could only get 1 in which was Ugarte.

He's got all his players fit, he implied last season that was the problem.
So what's the problem this year?

Could it be he's clueless

He's definitely clueless but luckily for him he has INEOS believing all his bluster, annoyingly that will make him even cockier in pressers

No left back ;)

Think his problem this year is his attackers couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Big games though he's absolutely set them up to fail with the tactics he deployed.

I bloody said all summer they needed a striker, predicted this.

Shouldn't have bought Zirkzee and gone for David instead, or added that to the Ugarte money and gone for Toney. Because Hojlund is not up this role

Anyway, I guess we have to put with this for a while longer. I think if he was going he would be gone by now.

They are in a tricky situation, bin him now they will called inept for their summer review, keep him and in six weeks they will be called inept for not sacking him in this window.

Really they need to do what is best for the club regardless, and bin him now.

Fair enough.

It's not just the striker though the wingers and Bruno need are as guilty of missing chances as Zirkzee has been. As a group they've been poor and need to do better. As a colletive they've got to up their output as they've all been guilty of missing chances which have cost us points.

They have gambled massively on Hojlund, Garnacho and Amad kicking on and becoming top players. I agree the Zirkzee signing to me should have been a cheaper more experienced striker to go alongside Hojlund. I even suggested someone like Welbeck just to help out for 12 months and see where Hojlund gets to.

It just doesn't feel like there's a desire to change it if they weren't 100% behind him they'd have just canned him in the summer and took their chances with someone else but now they've stuck with him I think they'll stay with him until at least Christmas.

There's another break in November if we're still bottom half at that point then surely that's game over.

To be fair like jsp said our forwards finishing has been awful! Not excusing the overall performances but a fair share of the responsibility has to be labelled at the attackers.

The Brighton/Palace results got us 1 point when I think we did enough in both games to win them. Stick 5 points on the total and we're just behind Villa in 6th.

The performance in big games Liverpool & Spurs are the ones that really alarm me there were some serious tactical flaws that got exposed in those games.

Is there a single manager in the league that doens't know how to beat us at this point?

If you bypass our press [4-2-4] the obvious danger is being outnumbered in midfield, and is what has been happening for ages now.

Just play around the 4 attackers that lead the press and you are golden. It's too easy.

It's actually usually worse than that, sometimes there is only 1 man left in midfield.

They're saying nothing is changing, and there are no patterns of play within the style being utilised, and touch on what me and jsp were talking about. There is a style, but it's just far too basic.

Keane pointed out the lack of goals in the team - that we don't have any players other than Rashford and Bruno that can score a lot of goals.

They're fair points.

The flaw exposed against Tottenham was the players. He didn't set them up to allow a defender to run past 7 players and stroll in to the box 2 minutes in. And as usual the players lost their heads when conceding and tried their best to throw it away all together they couldnt complete a 4 yard pass under no pressure and the game was fullt gone with the red card.

Once ETH got them in and sorted them out at HT they finally looked like a coherent team with desire in the second half.

That game was all on the players and their weak mentality.

When it's that basic an error its down to the players they don't need a manager telling them to make a tackle, show some desire or pass the ball to a man in red.

I think the flaw was after beating 1 man he basically had 30-40 yards of space to breeze through where no-one really got close to him until he arrived at De Ligt who did his job and sent him down the line.

The reason for that was our full backs both take really high positions in possession so if the ball is turned over there's some massive gaps to expose. On that goal both full backs didn't react quickly to Utd losing the ball and get back to their defensive position.

Our attacking shape is so spread out and we're so careless with the ball that against top sides who do have quality they can counter attack and punish you. I think that's why against Villa he kept us might tighter in possession.

Both games we only really started playing once the game was gone 3-0 down vs Liverpool and 2-0 down vs Spurs we did have a decent spell but by that point the damage is done.

I’ve not listened yet. What did Keane say?
Just the club is in total chaos, palyers shouldn't be coming out saying the other team wanted it more, that there is no fighting spirit, the first Spurs goal, Rashford should have gone in hard on the half way line, but even after that how can a player get to the by line and find an unmarked player.
Playing Maguire is a step backwards.
Shouldn't change CB mid game

It's actually really interesting, a good listen.

Does make you think the club needs someone like him in there.

How on earth did Ten Hag survive being 14th in the table and second lowest goals scored is wild

I’m losing interest here how are fans supposed to stay engaged with this horrible football being served up?
The board are staying with him for now but for how long and surely they must have given him some kind of ultimatum? Iv not had the urge to even look in the last couple of days.

Yeah, football is meant to give you some enjoyment, some fun.

An escape from this god awful.......can#t think of a word. Our club just seems to add to the depression.

I'm not sure I can bear to see that clown on the pitch side again, I need a lift

I guess that’s being a fan - enjoy the good times but stick in there during the not so good times.

ETH isn’t half as bad as people are making out but can totally appreciate he’s lost a lot of fans because of our style of play, results etc over the last couple of years.

I have defended him because there have been reasons to defend him but I can see myself that he needs a huge up swing in form or his position becomes pretty untenable.

He lost me when that Anfield annihilation got way out of control, was only 1-0 at HT and were the better team too. I was fully on the Ten Hag train after we beat City, Barca and League Cup but that result undid everything.

I could easily see Tuchel taking the England job now which I know will please some who feel he is a terrible fit for this club. Personally think he could be a good appointment for a couple of seasons and make us more attractive to a Nagelsmann/Inzaghi. Absolutely certain Alonso will replace Ancelotti at Real so don't see him as a viable option.

I think the noise was amplified because of the monthly board meeting that was held just after the Villa game an it'll be the same again in a months time during the next international break.

We are 14th and ETH thinks the media are telling lies and fairytales about his job being on the line.

He’s a clown.

Well he's got a point loads of people were saying his job was on the line if we didn't beat Villa and it was nonsense.

He's got to at least try and present some sort of confidence to the press when he goes out to talk to them.

He's asking for fans to show a bit of faith that it will come good most of us expect that it won't but he's just asking for people to stay behind them.

Yea with hindsight it was nonsense, if he wasn’t expecting constant scrutiny as the United manager he’s deluded especially languishing in 14th spot.

It was nonsense in advance he was never getting sacked the board can't afford to sack him that soon after extending his contract as I tried to explain numerous times you need to back him because he isn't going. They'd look like idiots. Every podcast on United said there is no way he's going they can't do it.

Anyone thinking he was possibly going couldn't see the wider picture and doesn't understand politics in football.

As Neville said you always see clowns at the circus. However the clown isn't our manager that we support in this circus sideshow.

They already look like idiots for backing him, I'm shocked at this board I thought we were in for better times.

Hes stating the obvious there but probably needed as people try to read between the lines with everything. Obviously no one is currently happy but thankfully that doesn't mean throw the nuclear bomb at it.

The outside noise cannot help with the management team or the players in the build up to matches but they need to start just putting up a brick wall and completely ignoring what's being said outside bat away all questions with no answer and move on to only discussing on pitch issues.
