Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

I dont think the Ralf appointment is the same

And this season isnt being written off under ETH? do you really think he`s going to pull this around?
A change can have a dramatic effect if everyone is on board, look at the players faces and body language under ETH they look really pissed off.
I read at the time that Ruud was brought in to help the forwards, I didnt imagine it.

Of course it is being written off but my point is if we're changing it then change it properly and bring in a proper manager. I just don't want another interim for me it's a waste of time as it will achieve nothing.

I think there was a lot of speculation about his role but Ruud is one of two assistant managers so I doubt he's just looking after the forwards.

For a bit then things reverted back to what they were and we drifted to the end of the season.
What's your solution then stick with this lemon? we are heading towards the relegation zone at the moment.

If Ruud was brought in to simply help the forwards then the last thing we want is him in charge of the rest of the team.

We have the worst Xg conversion in the prem. The forwards are the issue.

ETH might have wanted Ruud but you only have to see in his pressers that he`s unbelievably stubborn and cant see what the problems are, he could be ignoring everyone around him at this stage.

Who? who`s available that is elite? we cant have another meh manager the next one has to be the best available.

That is the million pound question that the club didn't find an answer to in the summer and not a huge amount will have changed since then.

The obvious answer to me is Tuchel but he's likely to want more control and say over signings than the new regime are willing to offer. He's the manager with the proven track record but he does seem to come with baggage but maybe he's what we need for a couple of years to keep us competitive for top 4.

Then you are into people like Potter & Southgate who don't have much pedigree at big clubs but are out of work at the moment.

After that you are looking at trying to get managers out of their current clubs mid season which is going to be difficult and expensive.

In terms of experience managers who are out of work there's also Allegri who left Juventus in the summer and Xavi who left Barca in the summer.

Agree about Tuchel he’s the only one getting me excited atm, didn’t the club have a chat with him in the summer and it went no further? Having said that the board wasn’t fully assembled then.

Various sources state they got as far as a salary. I think the major problem was with control though - Tuchel may have wanted more than they were initially willing to give. That makes sense if the sources are to be believed.

I reckon his salary demands would be a lot more than ETH.

He also has a reputation for falling out with sporting directors if he doesn’t get what he wants.

I can see why he’d be a risky appointment for the new regime.

And Arsenal conceded a goal to Southampton where as we kept the clean sheet, so we’re better than Arsenal right? :)

And Sir couldn't beat them because of the kit colour. So ETH is better tha SAF

ETH is going nowhere. It'll cost the board £18m to sack him after they extended his contract. They'll look like idiots.

Not quite how it works.

They’ll put him on gardening leave on full pay so if he doesn’t find another job until 2026 we will pay him his remaining salary reported to be £9m per year.

If he finds another job we release him and stop paying him.

Missing out on champions league football again would cost the club around £50m.

If they feel it’s spiralling and he can’t pull us out of the dive then quick intervention is key even if they look a bit silly.

It doesn't work like that. We can put him on gardening leave all we want. But when he gets a job offer we can either refuse to pay him or pay him off and let him take the job.

We also can't put him on gardening leave unless we can prove his job is no longer exist. So we'd have to say we are employing a first team coach not a manager.

wasn't Ashworth on gardening leave at Newcastle?

It shouldn't matter how much it costs, if they decide he's not the right man, and he's not, he needs to go.

It wont cost as much as they wasted on Zirkzee

I read yesterday Amorim is one of the favourites.

It can work like that and it often does. A lot of the time to get around these issues they'll agree a settlement figure where he takes a lump sum but it often means he can't take another job within a certain period. It's very unlikely Utd will pay up his full contract then allow him to go and work somewhere else straight away.

Not sure on the legality of hiring a replacement with the exact same job title for someone on gardening leave the rules are different to redundancy.

As I said if he goes I doubt he'll get his contract paid up in full unless he's willing to take 2 years off work, given his age and the damage to his reputation I think he'll want to be back in work next season if he ends up going.

Anyway all sorts of rumours flying round as expected.

Yeah but the rumours don't seem to be coming from any journalists.

If the decision is being made at this monthly board meeting then I'd be amazed if this news got leaked out before the meeting. No one in that room should be saying anything before that meeting.

My gut feeling is he'll survive if it was going to be done I think it would have been done yesterday doesn't need a big face to face meeting to make that sort of decision.

I just don't see how that group can sit around a table and say yeah, this is where we want the club to be. This is the direction we are after.

I don't expect it will be a comfortable meeting given the current state of things on the pitch but the question will be do they act to address it or do they need to hold their nerve and trust that things will come good.

They'll be able to see everything we can't see behind the scenes.

Who actually gets the final say on it? I know Sir Jim has this operational control but the Glazers are still the majority share holders do they need to sign off on a big decision like firing the manager.

Things aren't going to come good after 2 and bit years. I'd say we are behind where we were when he took over. Or at least in the same place.

Poor football, no tactics, poor squad.

I just cannot see how people in charge will look at it and say yeah I trust this guy with our business.

Just seen a report the board have told him he's safe, and he's nobbed of holiday.

not sure I can take more weeks of this crap

I tend to agree but there are examples where that has happened.

Obviously in the past with Fergie but more recently with Arteta. In his first few seasons they didn't look like they were going anywhere then all of a sudden it clicked and they're now challenging City for the title every year.

I'm sort of with you it just feels like it's run it's course now and won't get better but we just need to hope that it does.

The games after the international break before the next one are all very winnable and if the season is going to turn it has to happen quickly.

There are a number of players who need to sort out their own individual performances and up there game along with the manager, they can blame him all they want for the tactics but the quality of some of their player this season has been poor.

We said that after the Liverpool game.

For so many players to be out of form, there has to be coaching problems

Bruno, Mainoo, Martinez, Garnacho, Rashford to a degree, I mean we could list 80% of the squad.

I think he`s going eventually but starting to think its not now and he`ll be given an ultimatum after todays meeting, Iv said it before that its not just the manager too many of these players simply are not good enough to wear the shirt and that also needs to change.
There's a big job on here for SJR and his board and we are going to be suffering for quite some time yet.

I think we all know the squad is awful.

But you cannot tell me this squad is worse than Fulham, West Ham, Bournemouth, Brentfrod etc.

I don't think anybody is expecting a title, except the board by 2028 which is laughable.

But no way this squad is as bad as they are playing or their league position.

Why the hell they didn't buy a striker god only knows, because Hojlund and Zirkzee are nowhere near the level required.

I think we agree it has to change but this run of games coming is easier than the one we've just been through on paper but we threw so many points away in the last spell of matches you worry we'll just do the same again with these games. Palace, Twente and Porto were all games where draws really should have been wins.

Who knows what the problem is with the players, confidence after bad results is probably taking it's toll on a lot of them but still doesn't feel like they're against the manager. They haven't downed tools there's just so many who aren't at their best.

Confidence can swing quickly in both directions it just feels like with Utd 1 small set back seems to pop the balloon, you can see that in games where we often react to conceding a goal by letting in a second within 10 minutes. Not beating Palace after playing so well seemed to knock everyone's confidence that had built after Southampton and Barnsley.

Martinez and Bruno are two vital players to this team who've had poor starts to the season. That's captain and vice captain and currently neither of them are playing well
