Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

Hopefully the board are man enough to see their error.
Because he is a terrible manager

I think we’ll have a new manager after the next international break.

I'll take it. 2/1 we don't. The good thing about this board is they aren't reactionary. Things have changed and they spent 5 months analysing their options and decided he was the man. The change isn't happening.

I wouldn’t be so sure, just because you make a decision doesn’t mean it’s the right one ultimately. If we lose at Porto and Villa then it could be curtains.

It’s a results business and if you’re not getting them then you’re in trouble, doesn’t matter if you’re a new manager or been in the hot seat for a couple of years.

I agree, these results at the start of the season are appalling.
They must know they need CL.
This project is done. Move on

Totally agree with RVN wanting it to work but how low can we sink before changing. To salvage anything from this season it has to come sooner rather than later

The squad is a good squad but ETH does not know or want to change it. A midfield of Bruno, Mainoo is not going to work when none of our forwards can hold the ball. Now Bruno is out at least play Cas, and Ugaete together with Zirkzee and Rasmis together.

It’ll just be so tough to take another sacking because you’re starting again with a new project and a new manager.

Our squad isn’t as good as some people may lead you to believe. We’ve got some good/bordering on very good players but overall there is a lack of genuine top quality. Our midfield and forward line lacks technically proficient players and we mostly play on moments.

Ultimately unless ETH turns this around with two wins going into the International break I think he’s toast.

One thing I love about arm chair fans saying ETH knows nothing and they know better and the problem isn't with the players. Wtf aren't you up there earning £8m a year instead of being office workers?

It's a joke when people think they know more than the manager that sees the players everyday in training.

I hope they sack him. Hit the reset button and yet again prove the morons wrong that hitting that emergency button doesn't help anyone. 2 years 2 trophies. Silly entitled idiots don't grasp it.

These are the same idiotic fans that hounded out the previous manager. Honestly wish the fan base would feck off and go support City. It's where they belong.

You're right

Let's learn to live and appreciate awful football and results
And we can all feel good we backed a loser, doesn't matter that he's a loser, I can feel superior because I backed that loser. And when he's gone I can continue to say I was right, because we'll never know.

This is a poor defence of Ten Hag.

I agree, our squad isn't as good as we think, and we still have players who do not fight for the club, shirt and manager.

Pretty sure a load of people on here were arguing with a poster last season that our midfield was one of the best in the league.

The flaws in this squad are Zirkzee and Hojlund.

The rest are are not being used to their best abilities

I can’t recall this happening. Casemiro and Eriksen were good in their first season but poor in their second. Both needed replacing in the summer.

Your only defence of Ten Hag there is an appeal to authority. The rest is ad hominem attacks on those who disagree with you. A poor defence.

I can take the losses whilst a team is being built, but not too many of these gutless, clueless performances. Ole was sacked for the right reason; his team didn't have a clue. Unless we improve drastically, Ten Hag will be judged incapable of lifting the team up from the depths where he found it.

I don’t need to bet money on my opinion.

I’ve been a pretty staunch supporter of the guy but after last season you can’t open up the season with performances like today and the one vs Liverpool.

I was willing to cut him a bit of slack last season with all the injuries but it’s clear teams have sussed him out and he will go soon.

The new board clearly spent the summer looking for a replacement but didn’t find one. I think they’ll now admit they’ve backed the wrong horse and change it.

Gareth Southgate still favourite. I'll enjoy the meltdown from the same manager out people when it happens

That's good, you want a shit manager to come in so you can gloat about how right you were?

To be clear I don’t want Southgate as a replacement I just think it’s reached the end with the current guy.

My best guess is it’ll be Tuchel

Think Rich said our midfield was poor or bottom half, and we all slagged him off.

I still don't think that point is true, but I'm not sat here saying our squad is bad so I stick with my original critique of that point

Our squad is miss managed

I want the current manager to stay and appreciate the fact he's won us two trophies and led us through a takeover in difficult circumstances doesnt have a fit striker and I still back him and realise the alternatives aren't any better but will enjoy the meltdown from the ETH out crowd when Gareth gets appointed and then ill back him too because I support the club.

I’m prepared to give Ten Hag a little more time before I want a new manager, however those who want him sacked are also within their rights to be unhappy with Southgate.

That's who they're getting. And they should be aware of that. Until Southgate gets another job when ETH is sacked that who the board wants. If it was someone else they'd have got the job last summer.

They could have had Tuchel in June. Interviewed him and turned him down. It's Gareth or ETH.

The defence of ETH is a very simple one. He worked us through a takeover whilst winning two trophies in two seasons.

Only Pep has been more successful in ETH time here. I also said it takes three season before a manager can really click but we keep getting rid of em and not learning lessons. Klopp and Arteta would be gone before turning it around if United managers.

We have no idea how that conversation went both sides claimed hey turned each other down.

Not sure what his situation with Bayern is about him taking another job.

Tuchel could easily have said he’s interested just wanted a break before starting his next job.

With all these new experts in I’d hope that they’ve got a shortlist longer than 1 for potential replacements.

I agree for the most part that ETH deserves time. But he cannot afford to send out a team who plays so poorly; it creates too much doubt. Arteta and Klopp's team were never this poor.

Is ETH an effective enough motivator? Can he send a team out there, week in week out, who are ready to fight to the death for him? Because that is what we need. We have seen he is tactically astute, that he is keen on technical and skillful passages of play. But where is the fight, the solidity, the consistent level of application?
