Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

As I've always said. The worst thing about United are it's entitled fans.

He definitely needs to rewatch. Arsenal made Brighton look very ordinary yesterday all first half. We managed to mkae them look like one of the greatest teams to play football, beating us right at the death. How many times has ETH teams managed that now? Oh it's a lot.

Why was he bemoaning not being able to play a settled back line then weakens it himself by using Dalot on the left? Then makes CB changes right at the end of the match. He's an idiot sometimes.

Come on man Brighton looked pretty ordinary against us but we gave them a couple of cheap goals and didn’t take our chances.

I watched bits of the Arsenal game and after the Rice red card Brighton were well on top and had the chances to go ahead.

You come across as being desperate for the manager to fail and get sacked.

I don't need to re-watch anything, i'm just intelligent enough when i'm watching to not expect United to win every game(and comfortably) they play, just because we are Manchester United.

We've won titles on the back of stringing undeserved wins together ...

I've always been upfront about it - I don't see him as a coach capable of winning the league so my thinking is why waste time?

Did you hear the rumours about him wanting to keep McTominay, and that he wasn't keen on Ugarte? Luckily INEOS are not listening to him fully, they are buying 'his' players only to a certain degree. Players they feel will be good long term regardless of who is the coach. This is quite telling IMO.

Do we not need to give it more than 2 games to be judging his 3rd season?

I don’t think we’ve played amazingly yet this season but both games were notably better than the performances last season.

Yes we definitely do.

But I do think the result today is important to keep the press off, especially after he just said only Pep us better than him

Who could we realistically get in the summer that guarantees you the league? I am yet to be convinced either but there’s no need to be getting on his case so early on this season. I’d say it’s 50/50 he’s here next season but it’s that way for most managers now.

I heard the McTominay rumours and I can see why he might want to keep a guy who scored some big goals for him last season. I haven’t heard the Ugarte rumours but then Klopp didn’t want Salah and look how that turned out it’s good that we now have more voices in the discussions over signings.

I don’t think it’s telling it’s pretty basic stuff we needed to bring the average age of parts of the squad down so buying good players in their peak years makes sense as in football things can change quickly.

It would only be a short term fix though as lose the one after and it’s back to square one.

Today we need to play well and give them a game.

They’re a quality opponent if we play well and just get edged out so be it the only way the pressure really comes on is if we got a bad defeat.

I heard the mctom rumours and I get it. Manchester lad, united through and through.
I don't think he thought he was a starter, but you bring him on Vs city, Liverpool, he knows the bobby

Huh? There was nothing wrong with the performance against Fulham and/or Brighton, shoddy finishing in the first game and a few defensive lapses in the second doesn't change that, nor should getting beat
Really? Did you not see how we were exactly the same as last year?

Shoddy finishing and a few defensive lapses are the reason we were shite then and nothing has changed, and up front is a joke.

We could of had Tuchel if we pushed a bit harder and given him a contract he couldn't turn down. There were other options like Conte, Amorim and Pochettino. All have a recognisable style of play that has been successful to some degree. We can't really say the same about ETH.

All massive gambles that have been shown to be difficult to work with.

My honest opinion is the club have put all these new directors in place this summer they probably didn’t want to pick a new manager straight away so they’ve given him a second chance. Doesn’t mean they won’t sack him if things don’t improve this season,

His record at Ajax makes him as qualified as any of those you named so they’re giving him a crack.

I suspect if things are clearly not improving then someone like Tuchel could be in before Christmas but hopefully it doesn’t come to that and this team gels quickly and we have a good season.

We are better organised, and there are more players playing for the team, and not themselves, so yeah same as last year

Very fair post on the whole.

All I'm saying is, is that I don't believe he can win us a league.

I'm not calling for him to be sacked now, or even after this game, I'm pointing out what will happen in the press via his stupid comments and that he never helps himself out.

I won't be one of the people calling for his head after this game regardless of the result, as I know full well this is a very hard fixture home or away. I'll be looking at the bigger picture. My feelings remain the same though, I don't see it with him. Hence me saying it's a waste of time.

I'm giving him the time everyone wants me to right now.

After this fixture is over though we need to see a sharp turn in both results and on field performance. Only this way he will win my full support.

The McT rumours about ETH wanting to keep him sound exactly like that..rumours, he wasn’t starting him much and ETH looked happy enough stood next to Ugarte, pity he can’t start today.

Iv seen a couple of reports on X that ETH thinks it could be months before Ugarte gets up to speed, I won’t post links because I’m hoping it’s BS.

We don't play for 3 weeks, that's one of the months up, and he'll be away with Uruguay most of that time anyway, presumably.

He's just lowering expectations because he knows we've got more than our fair share of fans who will say he's shit and a massive waste of money if he doesn't hit the ground running and we don't start winning and he's like prime Kante when he's in the team.

he needs a good winning run after the internationals even just 3 or 4 across all comps.

A few players should be back Hojlund and possibly Shaw plus he will have Ugarte.

Not ideal being the 12.30 after internationals as we will have a few coming back from South America but we are playing the worst side in the league.

That one today will have put those who are on the fence back in the ETH out camp he needs to get them back onside quick.

@Justin Cider

I think most fans can tell if a player is shit, or lacking match fitness

A lot of the players you said were brilliant have been sold let's not forget.

So I don't think I'll be looking to you for who's good or bad

Unfortunately for you guys and for United the way this season has started is what many feared and what you didn’t had. ETH needed to start this season with good results and some clear style of play. Instead he’s got 3 points from a game which you probably just about edged but I’m not sure many neutrals would have said you were desperately unlucky not to have won if it had ended a draw.

At this point I think times up for ETH. He’s going to be given longer of course he is as right now the club has no choice but I really don’t see how he can turn this around.

I think he’s a decent manager. I think at the right club in the right situation he could do well (he did at Ajax) but I just don’t see that happening at United.

For some reason he makes baffling decisions with his team selections. He refuses to drop or sub Rashford who’s been dire for so long. He waits for players to make an inevitable mistake before dropping them. He picks De Ligt today in a huge and difficult game. But I also think at this point he can’t win no matter what he does. People wanted De Ligt instead of Maguire but in hindsight was that the right choice? Huge game to make your starting debut.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it until he’s no longer your manager (whenever that may be). There’s no distinguished style of play. There’s no clear structure of what united want to do with the ball. Other teams find a style very quickly even previous United managers had a style. Does it guarantee you success? No but it helps get people on side I think.

ETH needs to make some huge huge decisions after the international break if he wants any chance to turn things around. It starts with dropping Rashford.

Replied the dude that had given up on Zirkzee before he'd even started a game.

I rest my case your Honour.

Two games, and after today looks like I was right.

I also saw the few mins he did in the euros, and looked up his goal scoring record

You can't rest your case when it's still open

Glad we've wrapped that up then.

He isn't Harry Potter. This guy is mental.

We're still building apparently. Fcuk knows what.

Saying that it might take time to bed new signings in is hardly revolutionary.

The Harry Potter reference is a bit odd though.
