Erik ten Hag | United trigger contract extension

It probably didn't but to me that sends a warning to everyone that things are changing, the standards are being raised at the club and you either step up or leave because it's not a holiday camp anymore. I know De Gea was close pals with Bruno and Lindelof so they probably were sad to see him go but it's football players move on all the time you just have to deal with it and move on.

Sancho is big pals with Rashford and Shaw so I'm guessing the way things are going with him is having a knock on effect to these players.

The DoF stuff is an issue but it's going to take a huge investment to fix these problems and with the takeover situation that just isn't going to happen. It's obvious so much of the background stuff needs to sorted out from academy, scouting, training facilities, recruitment etc. The manager is clearly picking the players because he's probably not being offered better solutions by people who's job is to find the answers to these problems.

The club have to stick with ETH and back him over the players to anyone watching there isn't a player in that squad that is currently not playing who deserves to be starting every week ahead of the players ETH is picking.

the club do need to back ETH, but all the while they stutter in the 2nd transfer window, the manager suffers.
It's just repeat.

We know what the issue is, I just don't understand why they don't just f off.

Money and status.

Being a Man Utd player not only comes with big wages but also probably adds a lot of other perks. If you are on these mega contracts you are potentially leaving huge sums of money behind if you agree to leave and take pay cuts because those who aren't happy will need to take pay cuts at new clubs.

You are also giving up your dream having worked so hard to reach that pinnacle you are having to accept you aren't good enough and admit defeat by stepping back down. That's a hard thing to accept for players.

The club also has a problem that because of the way FFP works they need big transfer fees back on some of these players in order to get replacements. Because the owners wont cover the loss out of their pocket to buy replacements we need decent sales figures.

So they are essentially stuck here because we've overpaid for them in terms of transfer fees but also on their wages, it feels like a situation where everyone is unhappy but there just isn't a way out.

We must have the most gullible fanbase on the planet. United are struggling, let's do a bit of shit-stirring with no comeback. The only leak is from a journo's backside .... he's probably sat there chuckling like a 6-year-old schoolgirl now

For everybody in the squad that was close to De Gea there will have been 4/5 who were pissed that he was on circa £375,000 a week and had been throwing them in for years but guaranteed a starting place. If he'd stayed we would really have problems.

And if anybody is siding with Sancho they can feck off as well.

I don’t really care if it’s a journos made up story or if it’s players with a lack of game time. These players have to be stopped, either sold are put back in their lane. We must back ETH as we probably should have backed previous managers and let these players know their place. If we don’t the cycle continues and will carry on looking weak

We do indeed. Some thought replacing De Gea with Onana was actually a good idea because the media told them so!

Huh, Always thought De Gea got a good press, for some reason! They obvious weren't paying much attention the last three years ....

And don't recall anybody suggesting we should replace De Gea directly with Onana, ITK or chancer.

That’s putting down our fan base a little, we can derive our opinions from actually watching players and not just the media.

Total respect to EtH for the calm polite way he answered Luckhurst question yesterday, I would have wanted to jump over the table and put the little tosser in a coma ....

I genuinely doubt the majority of them had watched as much of Onana as me before the clamouring to sign him, was completely media based.

De Gea had to go.

Onana being a good replacement time will tell.

The last thing any keeper will want is a back four in front of him that changes every single game.

Got to say, and people who know me well enough know I'm not a fan of sacking managers, ETH is in real trouble here. The team has taken a huge backward step this year.

No style, no goals, and real lack of composure or general idea of what to do. He could be gone soon.

I think you have to give him a bit of slack for mitigating circumstances.

He's had a ridiculous number of injuries to deal with and he's had 2 major disciplinary issues with Anthony and Sancho to handle.

Unless there was a serious threat of relegation or a clear sign that he'd lost the dressing room completely he can't be sacked. We'd just be starting from scratch again he needs to be given time to ride out the storm.

It isn't good enough he's said that himself but he needs to turn a corner fairly quickly.

We won a lot of close games last season they said on a podcast this morning 13 of our wins last season were by 1 goal and our goalscoring is a huge problem which he hasn't been able to resolve. 7 goals in 7 games is nowhere near good enough all the top 6 have scored double the number of goals as us.

This side is as bad to watch as the sides we saw under previous managers and that is a problem because it doesn't give you much hope that something is going to come together and bring results. It just feels like we're in a stagnant state and it might be a 5th-7th finish this season as he continues to change the squad.

Rashford
Hojland
Casemiro
Bruno
Mount/Amrabat
Varane
Lindelof is an able sub
Dalot/AWB is a toss up
Onana

So LB and RW is the only area on of his first 11 aren't available. Lots of teams have injury problems. What are the mitigating circumstances?

5 of those are his signings.

Rashdford has been awful on the left, could have move him right and played Garnacho.

The team is underperforming big time. And he holds the can

Mitigating factors would be

3 left backs injured forcing him to play a guy he's signed to play centre mid at left back.
Both his starting centre backs have missed games this season one will now miss half the season due to injury. Lindelof is a reasonable replacement but he's nowhere near as good at bringing the ball out as Martinez and inviting the press.
His first choice right winger has been suspended.
He didn't have a centre forward for the first 3 games due to injury and no centre forward in pre season.
His main goal threat is out of form but his only replacement is a kid who's struggled to impact games when starting.
His top earning player can't turn up to training on time and his discipline is so bad they've banished him to train with the kids.

On Saturday he's missing 4 of his first choice XI. AWB, Shaw, Martinez and Anthony that isn't far off half your team. That seems to be a bit of a theme this season most weeks we are missing 2 or 3 starting players.

If you break it down I think the first choice back 4 has started 1 game together this season vs Wolves and we had to make a sub at half time. The first choice midfield (Casemiro, Mount and Bruno) has started 3 of 7 games and the first choice forward line hasn't started a game together yet.

He's having to use young players to plug gaps in the squad for injured/out of form players. Hannibal, Pellistri and Garnacho are having to step in during tough times which is far from ideal he hasn't got the depth in attack to call on.

I haven't checked their line ups from every game but what I've seen Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have all been able to pick pretty settled sides so far this season. City have rotated but they always do.

Managers have to take responsibility for results but any talk of sacking him at this stage I think is crazy.

Yeah any discussion of sacking ETH is a little ludicrous at this stage. If you sack him then you’re starting the process all over again.

He needs to be given more time, like Arteta was afforded at Arsenal. They could have easily sacked him in a difficult period but they stuck with him and now are reaping the rewards.

He has had a lot to put up with this season with injuries and off field issues, so it’s no surprise we are struggling a little. I think we will turn it around though, there will be no title charge but the only way is up!

I don't think I said sack him.

I said he needs to improve sharp or will talk will get heavy.

I'm not having his circumstanc

Yeah I agree he does need to start getting results or the dark clouds will start looming.

The sacking talk is mostly from social media to be honest. Obviously there are going to be a portion of fans that are very reactive and not really see the bigger picture.

I don't think I said sack him. So lets not blow this out of context.

I said he needs to improve sharp

Got to say, and people who know me well enough know I'm not a fan of sacking managers, ETH is in real trouble here. The team has taken a huge backward step this year.

I'm not having his circumstances, he's got one of the most expensive squads in the league, and the players he can pick are under performing and there is very little indication of any playing style.

He may be missing Antony and a LB, but there are a lot of first team players who seem clueless

The squad cost stuff to me is just a silly argument it isn't ETH fault that every player Utd want to buy costs lots of money, it isn't his fault our scouting department don't seem to be finding bargains and it isn't his fault that the players he inherited aren't worth anywhere near what they paid.

Rangnick wasn't lying when he said we needed to bin the lot of them and that takes time to do because most of them are on silly wages and aren't going to leave. Until they do leave he's just got to do the best he can with a number of them.

All the left footed full backs being injured does create a tactical problem as it means on the left both his wide players are coming inside making us very narrow when we attack down that side. His left footed forward being injured means on the right we end up with two players who both want to go outside on the right. To beat a team like Palace you have to be able to stretch the pitch wide and exploit gaps we just didn't do that.

One thing he does need to address quickly is the set pieces. We have been poor on them all season and it's cost us 3 goals that could easily have been avoided and it was the same story last season, Utd are very weak in the air.

ETH really is a man under pressure, and while I do have a degree of sympathy regarding injuries, I can't ignore the fact that even when we win we are not a good watch. Very slow build up with little or no tempo to our game. Even his substitutions are negative

I feel like he's lost the room a bit.

Gawd knows if he can get it back. Standard year 2 at united after an awful transfer window.

I’m guessing the Sancho situation impacts the dressing room quite a bit.

He will be good mates with a number of the players I believe he’s good mates with Rashford, Shaw, AWB and Malacia.

You can’t tell Ten Hag to go into that dressing room and lay down the law then not back him at the first sign of trouble.

I think he’s still got the support they haven’t given up in games they just don’t seem to have the quality to win games comfortably so every game is a 50/50.

He's in big trouble here, looks out his depth a bit. Players look clueless.

Somehow he needs a reset.

I think he has to drop his keeper and drop his captain for the next game.

Needs his better defenders back fit he can reshuffle what he’s got but they’ll keep making mistakes because they are bad players. Dalot and Lindelof have proven time and time again under 3 different managers that they don’t belong at this level.

It will remain ugly but they have to stick with him and get shot of these players.

He needs to admit his error and get de Gea back

Drop onana, rashford, Bruno.

Put Dalot LB, cos he's merdé at RB

Have we got no decent youth players at full back, if not why not. WTF does our scouting team do.

I actually think he's in big trouble here. Because something has got to change.

All this BS by the glazers can't be helping either. I just want them to go. So I can get some hope. Because all there is at the moment is darkness

I can’t believe people want him back after the way he performed last season there is a reason no one has signed him. Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Bayern, Real Madrid, Inter Milan all got new keepers in this summer and none of them went for De Gea. There is a reason for this and him returning is not the answer.

If Dalot plays left back then who plays right back? Lindelof? well he was awful and do you want to risk Maguire or Evans against the hard running Brentford team. Also, Dalot is normally worse at left back than right back.

Alvaro Fernandez/Brandon Williams both went on loan because we had Shaw and Ruguilon fit at that point. Now both are injured. Laird‘s contract expired and Jurado wanted to move back to Spain so the club let him leave.

I agree it is very hard to see positive and light at the end of the tunnel with Utd because of the ownership and if they did have to make a change you can guarantee they don’t have an idea who they’d bring in.

I want him back because he's free, and better than what we have, that's all.

Jesus Christ @Mr C you could depress a cauliflower ....
"Hallo darkness my old friend .... "

United have now conceded 18 goals in the first 10 games of the season, the last time we conceded more after 10 games was in 19966/67, which is apparently the year after England's wing-less wonders won the World Cup.

I want him back because he's free, and better than what we have, that's all.

He can't play until January though.

If we signed him tomorrow he cannot play in league or european games until 1st January as squads are now fixed.

I wouldn't take him back he was poor on the way out and as a manager he's got to stick to his decision and in my opinion it was the right one.
