That midfield... think a midfield 3 of Wilshere, Henderson and Oxlade-Chamberlain would be best, maybe Milner in there somewhere. Rooney, Sturridge and Sterling front 3. My back 4 would be Chambers, Jones, Cahill, Baines.

Yeah, Hamstring injury, he played on with it for a bit but went off in the end, hopefully not too serious.

Apart from the odd poor first touch, Rooney looked a lot better tonight, particularly in the second half, hopefully more to come.

I don't get the fascination with Townsend. Routledge or Dyer would be more deserving.

Stones has been replaced by Chambers by the way.

2nd half better... always hard to really judge anyone against such poor opposition. I'd have liked to have seen Clyne start over Chambers, as a more attacking RB.

Team news v Estonia. Lallana in for Sterling and Delph in for Milner. Chambers keeps his place.

England really struggling to break teams down. Even against San Marino, they opened the scoring from a corner and then the 2nd was a penalty. Direct FK tonight. The 2 against Switzerland were on the counter I seem to remember when Switzerland were trying to get a winner and then an equaliser.

The 3 forwards all getting in each other's way tonight.

England face Slovenia in their fourth European Qualifier at Wembley on Saturday November 15 before a friendly with Scotland at Celtic Park on November 18.

England squad:
Hart (Manchester City), Forster (Southampton), Foster (West Brom), Cahill (Chelsea), Smalling (Manchester United), Baines (Everton), Jagielka (Everton), Clyne (Southampton), Gibbs (Arsenal), Chambers (Arsenal), Shaw (Manchester United), Henderson (Liverpool), Lallana (Liverpool), Milner (Manchester City), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Sterling (Liverpool), Townsend (Spurs), Wilshere (Arsenal), Walcott (Arsenal), Barkley (Everton), Carrick (Manchester United), Downing (West Ham), Rooney (Manchester United), Welbeck (Arsenal), Lambert (Liverpool), Berahino (West Brom)

Not sure how Walcott can be called up or Lambert, even Carrick for that matter, and why do we need 3 left backs?

Yeah some strange selections in there. With regards to 3 left backs, it might be that Baines will play the qualifier and Gibbs and Shaw will play 45 mins each against Scotland.

Carrick will add some experience in midfield.

Good to see Berahino get a call up, similar form players at mid table clubs have been ignored for a while though.

Carrick to play at the base of a diamond formation, so Sterling, Rooney and Welbeck/Sturridge can play in their preferred positions?

How Walcott and Townsend are in over Young is quite funny. Not sure how Luke Shaw is in either tbh. Are 3 left backs really needed?

Assuming Jones is in as more comfortable than Smalling on the left side of defence. When he first came on the scene people thought he was left footed apparently.
Not surprised Kane isn't starting. Rooney and Welbeck have a very good partnership and good records for England. Kane for Sterling with Rooney at 10 may have been better though given form.

Easy for England. Had a bet on 4-0 too, was sweating on that when Kane came on and scored after a minute or so of being on mind.

Carrick class! Not convinced Hodgson really rates him though. If Wilshere was fit he'd pick him over Carrick.

Carrick changed the game, he was excellent. Hopefully we won't see Jones in midfield again.
