Diogo Dalot | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Just a rush of blood and a panic after a poor touch.

You see it all the time players take a bad touch then chase it. Probably a natural instinct but it’s massively cost him.

It’s those sort of poor decisions that stop him from being a really top player.

Needs to shrug it off now, his team bailed him out of trouble and focus on next weekend when he has the chance to put it right.

He is not a left wing back would be nice to see why he can do on the right side.

Poor again. Pathetic attempt to clear the ball for the first goal. His football intelligence or lack of leaves a lot to be desired. He shouldn’t be an automatic starter for United.

Also, we've waited for him to play on his favoured side, and he still has no end product. He has a phobia of delivering an early cross and always takes a touch then passes sideways or backwards.

Not seeing a future wing back with him.

He is one they should be looking at selling to raise some money.

He’s an ok full back but he’s not a good wing back.

Sick of the sight of him to be honest! He seems to be an ever present whether it’s on the right or left.

He doesn’t offer anything really in an attacking sense, he does get forward but his output is so poor.

I think he won’t be a starting wing back once Amorim moulds this squad in his vision. Not the worst squad player but not a regular starter.

Not sure he can be a squad player when we aren’t playing full backs.

I don’t think he’s anywhere good enough at the wing back role and unlike Maz you wouldn’t want him in the back 3 either

Yeah totally but what with the financial situation, he’s going to be part of the squad I would have thought. Managers seem to like him and what he can bring to the party.

It’s hard to tell how much Amorim likes him because he’s been limited in options so far at wing back.

He might be a player who could fetch a half decent fee if they decided to sell him.

The main quality he has is fitness, he’s one of the few players in our squad that stays fit through the season.

I think he gets far too much abuse. We are forgetting he was the players player of the season last year. And performed well. Now the manager wants him to play a different role he's all over the place. It isn't on him. He's just confused.

It's not abuse, it's calling it as we see it. Being Player's Player of the Season in this group is no great accolade. He is an average footballer who's best attribute is, as @jsp says, is his fitness. He is an okay right back but prone to lapses in concentration, regardless of the formation used.

He does make too many school boy errors.

Then he'll have a belter.

We don't need 5,5,6,9,9,7 players. We need an Irwin 8,,8,7,7,8,8 players

However, I do think he is overly criticised by fans.

He's ok. 70% need to go before him

He'll be back at left back for the next 3 games.

Oh Joy!

He just switches off to easily and not getting out to block crosses is a massive issue I have with our players. That guy last night had so long to line up the perfect ball you cannot give top players that sort of time to pick out the man.

Gone from player of the season to scapegoat of the season, there are far worse than him on the pitch to aim vitriol at.
This whole team id being dragged backwards and down by a few poor signings and over paid players.
It's not just Dalot.
We have the Macdonalds clown in goal, a striker who's scared of the ball. a CB who can't jump, and a Captain who runs around like a demented frog trying to make up for all the other inadequacies in the team.

I don't mind Dalot, he always gives 100%

Do I see him in the starting 11 of league winning team. No

Is he good enough for where we are, yes he is.

Some very odd stuff being said about our best player last year.

Ever consider the player may be suffering from burnout? He carried the team on his back for a season. He did that swapping positions constantly and now when it's his time to get a bit of leniency he's due none.

He's always available and giving 100% - yes recently that hasn't been enough, but I think that's a running theme in the team right now. They're trying, but it's just not happening.

He's also recently said that him and his team-mates are suffering due to all the restructuring of the club.

What surprise, he isn't a robot.

I've stayed out of this argument, too many are too judgemental.
It's been said before he was our best player last year, this year he hasn't been allowed to settled in one position, what I see is a guy giving or trying to give 110% every game, I get the feeling if more of our players played with the same drive and passion he does, we would be further up the table.
Basically I think he is trying too hard at times.

Dodnt want to cross to Hojlund though.

although I'm not sure his run was very good, should have slowed up a bit.

You still put the ball in though.

Dalot is a frustrating player mainly because he’s pretty average but we watch him every game because he’s one of the few players we have who seems to be fit enough to play twice a week.

I think the run was too bad, if he put the ball in the correct place, it would have been behind Hojlund, if he did it to Hojlunds run, it would have been in the keepers hand.

He did the right thing, Dorgu chose the wrong option with a silly shot.... think it was him and not Garners.

I think it was a very poor decision by Dalot. The run from Hojlund was perfect and if Dalot had slid it when he had the chance then Hojlund would have been well in the game. I don’t think the keeper would have been coming out to try and collect.

Just seen it back, I was wrong.

He had plenty of time to pick him out.

I just think in those positions you always stick it in the box and give the striker a chance.

If you put a good ball in there's a chance Hojlund gets it, the defender might stick it in his own net running back or the keeper might fumble it.

You put the ball where it needs to go then if the striker doesn't get it you tell the striker to sort it out next time.

I just don’t think Dalot is that good in attacking positions and no doubt Amorim will be looking to replace him as soon as. Quenda from Sporting seems to be the hot talk and he would fit the managers ideals more.

I think he's someone who could be sold if there's interest.

Nothing massively against him but he's clearly a right back rather than a wing back and unlike Maz I don't think he could go into a back 3.

The only thing that might save him is he's quite flexible so a handy squad player but if someone offered a decent transfer fee Utd would have to consider it.

It is his job to deliver the ball when he is in that position on the pitch.
I'm just not sure I'd want to pass to him at all. I'd always be reluctant, as right now it seems pointless, he can't do anything right.

Amorim even described him as anxious the other night, he's running out of patience, but what can he do? Nothing much.

Dalot is a player clearly out of form. He's now suffering from his success and it's down to the changes in system and players around him.

Dalot had no excuses for not putting that ball in for Hojlund, it was criminal.
The big disappointment was that Amorim should have been going berserk at Dalot but didn’t.
