Diogo Dalot | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Dalot at left back is horrific. At right back he’s solid but he is clearly out of form right now.

Which ever wing he is on, he is still too slow to close down the opponent to prevent a cross, and too slow to track back. No use being solid for a lot of the game if you switch off in key moments.

Does my head in this guy.

Thought his passing today was poor.

Ruben Amorim on Diogo Dalot:

"Dalot used to pass the ball to centre-backs and go inside and play as a midfielder. Now he has to stick to this position."

Poor tonight.

First goal didn’t read the flight and third goal didn’t get out to put pressure on the goal.

Going forward his crossing was a disgrace and his shooting was even worse

I personally think on the right he’s ok.

He sees so much of the ball in this side and does absolutely nothing with it.

If you are going to be a bit of a dopey defender then I need to see a lot more at the other end.

I hope the rumours linking Dalot with a move to Real Madrid are true. Doubt it though.

Think we need to remember what he brought to the team last year. He's a very capable player who is out of form. That's all.

His decision making and football intelligence leaves a lot to be desired. He’s 25 now, he’s no kid. He needs to show a lot more than he has done so far this season.

Last season he was the best of a bad bunch.

He had some good games but he still cost us a lot of goals.

We signed Bayern’s back up right back and straight away he’s looked a much better player than Dalot.

This lad shouldn’t be starting every week and I don’t think he will be for much longer.

Perhaps the signing of Maz hasn't helped him. It may have given him the feeling that we're trying to replace him, that can affect a player's confidence quite badly. Not all people will respond well to competition. I think give him some time to get used to the new system and come to terms with the fact he has competition now.

He hasn't just instantly become bad, there has to be a reason.

Maz was signed to replace AWB it’s a squad game.

If your confidence drops because the club signs a new player in your position you don’t belong at a club like Utd.

You have to back yourself and make the new guy take your spot don’t give him a chance to take it.

I always felt this season was going to decide if he’d really turned the corner.

I like his attitude and energy but I’m not convinced by his quality. Not easy playing on the left.

We also need to remember last year was awful, and if anyone did look good then it was still an average standard when compared to other teams. He is not good enough to help us turn into a team that consistently challenge for this biggest prizes each season.

I disagree. I think you're being a bit ungreatful too. He did a great job anywhere he was asked to last year and you've quickly forgtten that and you've also not took into consideration that everyone is leanring new roles right now. The very least he deserves is some time.

Doesn't matter where you play you have to go and put pressure on players trying to cross the ball.

He never does it and it costs us time and time again.

The main credit I'd give to Dalot currently is that he can at least stay fit these days his first few years at the club he was barely ever fit now he's one of the fittest players at the club and hardly misses a game but he sees so much of the ball and does so little with it.

He’s been pretty poor for United this year but I don’t think playing on the left is helping him. I’m also not sure he has a role in the new system? I think he’s decent at defending and going forwards but he’s not outstanding at either. I think he’s a good RB but not a good RWB.

I certainly don't see him as playing in the back 3 so really it's going to be the wing back roles for him.

The way he seems to be setting it up is the wing back on 1 side is a winger and the other side is a full back.

Whatever side he's going to play on his final ball has got to improve a lot. His shooting and crossing is pretty meh. I think it has improved but I don't think it's top class.

His short passing and general play I think is very good but the bit that really matters which is the final bit is lacking.

There is a fair few I would get rid of before Dalot but that doesn’t always say much with this bunch!

I think he’s a solid right back and like @Mr C said you can never doubt his work ethic, he’s always committed 100%.

He’s scored a few pearlers the last few years but as a wing back he will have to improve his goal and assist output.

His best game at left wing back?

Salah didn’t get much out of him played an hour on a booking.

Going forward went down the outside a few times and pushed Liverpool back.

Yeah, his best performance at left wing back. If only he could play against Trent Alexander Arnold every week, he’s so bad at defending.

Real Madrid must have ignored that part of the scouting report.

He’s a very talented player but he isn’t a right back.

As per the match thread, Dalot can have no complaints over both yellow cards. The second was mindless given the referee and area of the field.

Yep let his team mates down with such a reckless decision.

After his best game of the season last week to do that was very frustrating.

He can be a nob at times, his mistake was giving that arsehole with the whistle a chance to give him another yellow but look at the actual challenge he didn’t have his foot raised or actually touch their player.

He can have zero complaints.

He lunged in after a poor touch.

The ref was poor today but Dalot gave him no choice on his 2 yellows.

The second yellow was the right call from the referee.

Idiotic to go into that low percentage tackle with a yellow card. Could have cost us today but he owes a real gratitude to his teammates.

I know it’s what they do now calling it intent or something but as I say he didn’t actually make contact, pretty shameful that the Arse player went down screaming, sad to see.

Think the correct term now is reckless.

He just didn’t need to do it.

Do red cards in the fa cup count towards the league?

What makes his decision worse is that we were leading and not even chasing the game.

It was a stupid decision.

But we were all over the place after we scored. I get the error, but it was poor
