You know what that's a great appointment for Sunderland. He knows the league so well and he's a manager who I think over performs with medium sized clubs. That's why he wasn't suited to United but hey he gave it a crack. I was glad when he was sacked because he wasn't right for us but I respect him more than LVG! So this is a great appointment for Sunderland. And hopefully he'll bring that stability that they really need.

Not a great start to the season for Moyes but last week ago to City was a tough game and derbies are never easy games to call.

Just what the fans want to hear, he is so dreary in his expectations. Can't deny his comments are true as they will be in a relegation battle, judging by so far and also their less than exciting signings. However, the fans need something positive and he hasn't given them that. Was always going to fail here.

I guess sometimes fans want their manager to be honest? And based on their lack of activity in the transfer market and the loss of their first choice CB partnership that was so important last year he's not wrong. Sure the fans won't want to hear this but it's just reality and ultimately his goal will be to get Sunderland in to a much more stable position over the next couple of years.

Sometimes honestly is the best policy but in football not always. Imagine if Sir Alex had come out in the early 2000's and said United are underdogs because Arsenal are so good, he would have been roasted on forums. It may have been true but fans don't want to hear it. I think he's just built a wall which he can hide behind if they are in a relegation battle. Sunderland fans have been in battles for the last 4 years or so, a positive statement from a manager is what was needed.

Particularly after what Leicester did last year. Fans now believe their club can do the same. And managers should be able to use them as an example and say why not.

Totally agree. Leicester have to be the bench mark for all clubs now, they were by no means the best squad in the league, far from it but they had a manager who believed in them and a togetherness. By saying they are going to be definitely in a relegation battle, he's basically saying to the players that they're only good enough players to be battling relegation. Totally the wrong mindset to have.

But surely managers need to reign in the fans expectations a bit? I know it's great to dream and Leicester have opened up the opportunity for others... But for that reason it won't happen again any time soon. I know we all thought that last year but I think it's really given the top teams a kick up the backside.

New arrivals: Paddy McNair, Donald Love, Adnan Januzaj, Steven Pienaar, Javier Manquillo, Papy Djilobodji, Didier Ndong, Jason Denayer.

He certainly can't complain that they haven't backed him financially... He's signed a number of players there and some very good players too.

I don't rate his business at all. Januzaj obviously is the standout and Denayer looks a good coup. I don't know anything about Ndong but the rest of them are meh. Moyes better hopes Ndong settles well because they've spent big money on a foreigner from the French league and a lot of them definitely don't work out.

He's off to an awful start isn't he... And it's going to take a lot for him to start to turn this around before they become detached at the bottom.

Is he already on borrowed time? Or do they look to keep him with a long term view?

It's a club that needs stability and to be fair Moyes can bring that... But every other new manager in the past few years has brought instant results to a struggling team and he isn't doing that!

Given the importance teams place on being in the PL I can't see him getting that long.

2-0 up at home and lose 3-2...

Not a good home point that... I know they got a fairly late equaliser that might give them some confidence but you still need to be winning these kinds of games.

He's on borrowed time for sure! When you think that every other new manager that's gone in to Sunderland has had an instant impact he's really going to struggle to stay much longer.
