I think Root is the key - he’s a great player of spin so he’s the man. The others can then try and play around him.
 
Whilst we have Brook or Root about we remain in with an outside chance. But gonna be tough tomorrow need to try and get in to some rhythm quickly.
 
Yeah this game is cooked. Suppose you can never say never with Stokes there but I suspect it’ll be over soon.
 
The batting collapse in the first innings and dropped catches in the second innings has cost England dearly.
 
Yeah the dropped catches definitely cost us. Losing the toss was a big one as well, I think bat first on that pitch and you’re most likely going to win.

Shocking first day pitch and all down to Pakistan doctoring it beforehand! No first day pitch should be having balls shoot across the floor like that Duckett wicket.
 
What do we think of the pitch preparations. Industrial fans, patio heaters and racks.

Stokes just said it's their home game they can prepare the pitch to their advantage but seems a bit far.
 
It’s totally because they don’t think they can beat us on a traditional Pakistan pitch which is flat but spins by the end. It’s not exactly sustainable for them and just looks like the only way they can win is to produce a devilish pitch.

Smith and Atkinson doing really well now though but the pitch will be an absolute nightmare to bat on last for Pakistan!
 
Pretty even at the end of the day with Pakistan 73/3 after Smith got England up to 267.

The pitch isn’t going to get any better so a crucial innings this, if we can knock them out for 150-175 then I think we are in pole position.
 
The game looks pretty done to be honest - unless we somehow scramble up to 200 and give Pakistan a tricky little chase. Then we need to hope the pitch is spitting venom!

It’s the usual case of our players just not being very good against the turning ball - especially when that turn is quite pronounced.
 
Absolutely pummelled in the end. Quite a turnaround from Pakistan but if you prepare turning pitches chances are you’ll beat England.

No more matches in Asia until 2027 for us. Phew.
 
Shambolic stuff by England. The batters had can only play one way. It’s great when the pitch is flat but when the team struggles when the pitch offers something for the bowlers. Question marks over Crawley and Pope.
 
I think Pope is in serious danger but Crawley probably lives to fight another day - after all the partnership with Duckett is a good one and in NZ and Aus he’ll probably do well.

Pope on the other hand doesn’t look equipped to be a number 3.
 
Might not happen in the series but there is a chance of seeing Salt and Pepper open for England in the ODI’s against West Indies.

Why all the crying about the pitches, home nations have always created pitches to suit their best bowlers.

In the end no salt and pepper and we were thoroughly ground down to defeat! No surprise when a lot of our players don’t have much experience of a 50 over game! If you are good enough you’ll miss all the county cricket 50 over stuff and go straight into T20/Hundred, so there really isn’t much scope to learn the format.
 
Quality stuff by Livingstone. 77 runs off the last 26 balls. Enjoyed watching the last hour or so.
