A thread to discuss Christian Eriksen’s match performances in 2022/23.
Yeah the formation didn’t suit him at all but you could see him improve as the game went on when he went deeper.Thought he was poor first half think that false 9 formation was a disaster for everyone.
Second half was better when he went a little deeper
Not sure there were any redeeming features to his game. I heard he keeps the ball and protects it whilst Bruno gives it away. One player looked after the ball and the other treated it like a hot potato. It was a disaster of a debut. A lot of improvement to be made.
I guess the more time he spends in that role the more he'll get used to it? The key is whether Ten Hag plans to stick with him there or move him all over.
Thought he was solid last night wasn't really a stand out player to me I'd have probably gone for him or Dalot.
Player of the match was definitely one of the back 4.
I had a little chuckle when Jenas gave it to him. Highlighted two things. One they used to both play for Spurs. Two that no United player had a good game.
The United analysis had him as the 12th most influential player in the game. Now I know that's not indicative of how he actually performed but does highlight he probably wasn't motm. They don't tend to be that far off.
The radio commentry kept commenting on how good he was and has been for united.
They were saying the ball moves much better around our midfield with him there, works great with Bruno and our passing is more forwards compared to McFred and he just moves the ball forwards quicker. Much less sideways and backwards.
And lets not forget it's not even his position.
I think some, no names, need to lighten up and give him a fair crack.
Seems like a good signing so far, especially on a free.
Just posted something similar on Martinez thread. Eriksen is always looking to release any of the front four. One thing where he's making a big difference is the quick ball into Bruno those two are linking really well.
Eriksen being a bit deeper is helping get the ball to Bruno quickly which then gives him the time to find the strikers before the defence gets setup.
