Christian Eriksen | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Thought he was poor first half think that false 9 formation was a disaster for everyone.

Second half was better when he went a little deeper

Thought he did okay in a poor team performance, the more his teammates get on his wavelength the better he'll become.

Yeah the formation didn’t suit him at all but you could see him improve as the game went on when he went deeper.

He’s a terrific footballer but we need to utilise him correctly.

Not sure there were any redeeming features to his game. I heard he keeps the ball and protects it whilst Bruno gives it away. One player looked after the ball and the other treated it like a hot potato. It was a disaster of a debut. A lot of improvement to be made.

Be interesting to see what EtH does against Brentford in the next match. It'll probably be Bruno or Eriksen to start, with an extra body brought in to stiffen the midfield alongside McFred.

Think he played 4 different positions yesterday.

The first half was a mess but second half after Ronaldo came on things improved as Eriksen was actually able to take the ball off the defence.

Not sure he's going to have the legs to play centre mid in the prem.

I thought he did ok when not playing a ridiculous position that he's not suited to.

Don't think it would be right to start him against Brentford on the emotional side alone, then keep him on the bench against Liverpool, then unleash him again at Southampton.

First touch I was screaming at him but the pass towards Malacia redeemed it. Excellent stuff. Made the goal.

He looked dead come the 75th though. Need to make subs quicker.

Thought he was good first half but he really tired second half I was surprised he lasted as long as he did.

Almost scored a beauty of a free kick as well.

I guess the more time he spends in that role the more he'll get used to it? The key is whether Ten Hag plans to stick with him there or move him all over.

I think with Casemiro coming he won't play that role as often in big games I suspect it'll be Fred and Casemiro with either Bruno/VDB/Eriksen as the number 10.

I'm guessing in a lot of games especially at home where we expect to dominate the ball we may see Eriksen alongside Casemiro.

Been a real calming influence in our midfield. Lacks a little pace obviously but he has been a main factor why we have had our little turn around.

Thought he was solid last night wasn't really a stand out player to me I'd have probably gone for him or Dalot.

Player of the match was definitely one of the back 4.

I had a little chuckle when Jenas gave it to him. Highlighted two things. One they used to both play for Spurs. Two that no United player had a good game.

The United analysis had him as the 12th most influential player in the game. Now I know that's not indicative of how he actually performed but does highlight he probably wasn't motm. They don't tend to be that far off.

Was a game without a stand out player to be honest I felt the best player on the park was probably Maddison he was causing us a lot of problems.

For Utd it was pretty much solid 7/10 performances out of the back 4 and midfield the attack wasn't great.

The radio commentry kept commenting on how good he was and has been for united.

They were saying the ball moves much better around our midfield with him there, works great with Bruno and our passing is more forwards compared to McFred and he just moves the ball forwards quicker. Much less sideways and backwards.

And lets not forget it's not even his position.

I think some, no names :p , need to lighten up and give him a fair crack.

Seems like a good signing so far, especially on a free.

The truth is he's been somewhere in the middle he hasn't been amazing but he also hasn't been rubbish.

I don't think we've really seen a really dominant team performance yet we had the absolute sh*t shows of the first 2 games and the 3 subsequent games have been games where we got the first goal and sat back shutting up shop.

Now the window is shut we will hopefully see a bit more of the playing style come through but I do think with Eriksen he's struggling to get through the 90 minutes and when the legs start to go the composure starts to go.

I said he's been decent. I think you're better off using the eye test. Because you've got to remember the guy died on the pitch and people will talk him up on the radio regardless of performance.

He's not had a good moment in the shirt yet. There's nothing I could point to last night and say he did well he had an average game. The back 5 were our better players. He had two moments that you remember from the game. A shot he dragged wide where he plenty of time and should have at least worked the keeper and an opportunity to play Rashford in and end the game that come at him very fast but a professional footballer with his control should have got his feet sorted not tangled up.

One thing where he's making a big difference is the quick ball into Bruno those two are linking really well.

Eriksen being a bit deeper is helping get the ball to Bruno quickly which then gives him the time to find the strikers before the defence gets setup.

Just posted something similar on Martinez thread. Eriksen is always looking to release any of the front four.

Think he's been fairly diligent at defensive side of the game to which is where I thought he'd struggle he's not perfect but he sticks to the task.

I didn't think he'd offer much but so far he's made a good start.

I think he's played really well. He's linking the play well and I think he's bringing those attacking players in to the game quicker.

I love this signing, been a great addition, making the difference.

Yep another decent performance from him in terms of on the ball he's the best we've had in there in a long time the passes aren't always accurate but they're quick. The defensive side of his game is a problem which I think teams will start to target more as the season goes on but he's giving us something we've really been lacking in that department.

There will always be discussions on his defensive side but at the moment McT is looking very good next to him. He has been brilliant so far for us though.

It’s amazing how much better we can look with a midfielder who can actually pass the ball - who knew!

Yeah it's working for now so no reason to change it but I don't think it'll be a long term solution hopefully Eriksen can plug the gap this season but the investment in the midfield will need to continue next summer.

Aside from the assist there was another lovely reverse pass inside too. Defenders don't see those coming and if Rashford, Sancho and Malacia get on that wavelength it'll be dangerous.
