Chelsea Discussion 2024/25

1) it's Saudi
2) McTominay is much older and will have little re-sale at the end of his contract.
3) McTominay was in the final year of his contract.

even so, 23m for player nobody has heard of. There's some dodgy shit going on at Chelsea

Chelsea have been pretty good at selling to Saudi.

Some might even suggest there's a link between their owners and the owners of the Saudi clubs.

Owners appear to be falling out.

Both willing to buy each other out but neither willing to sell.

This sort of in fighting really stuck Arsenal in limbo for years it was only when Usmanov eventually sold up that Kroenke starting spending money to make them competitive.

Two main players are Boehly and Egbahli the ownership split is roughly 35% and 65%

I do worry that this is what could be awaiting us down the road if Ratcliffe and the Glazers stop getting along.

Could the Glazers just be sitting back and letting Ratcliffe do the work in making the club worth more money and never really have any intention of selling? That is my worry.

I don't claim to be great on this side of things, but surely that would be a sound strategy for them?

I'm sure you'll know, jsp?

It's hard to tell the way the deal was structured it looked like Ratcliffe would be buying them out over the next few years certainly to a majority position maybe with Joel and Avram retaining a minority holding. A minority owner having operational control over a business is a very odd setup and it would make you think that there's a deal of some sort in place for Ratcliffe to take it into his control over the next few years.

It's all very complicated because of the two tier share structure we have essentially the Glazers can only sell their class B shares to each other but there were provisions in the original deal that dealt with future share sales.

My gut feeling is there's a handshake deal in place already for Ratcliffe to buy them out over the next few years at some point the club is going to be loaded with new debt for the stadium works my guess is the Glazers cash out before that lands. It would seem crazy for Ratcliffe to improve the health/value of the business without the protection that the price down the line is already agreed.

One thing is for sure SJR is no mug and no one is going to get the better of him, my feeling is the Glazers have given him something to encourage him to invest initially with a total takeover eventually.

He isn’t a mug but I think even he would admit he’s come out on the wrong side of deals before and trusted people he shouldn’t.

The Glazers are a tricky family to deal with as he’s negotiating with 6 of them and they aren’t all on the same page.

I agree it would seem crazy that he’d put £1bn of his own money in at risk without some sort of protection. Feels to me like his agreement with the Glazers going forward is likely one of trust rather than something in writing as anything in writing would need to be declared to the stock exchange.

Anyway back to Chelsea sounds like Boehly might be on his way out.

I couldn't be bothered to read it, but based on the headlines, Boehly has a clause where he can rename the club to get a stadium move if there is too much fan uproar

Won yesterday against Bournemouth.

The keeper had a blinder to keep them in it including a penalty save.

Got some firepower off that bench now with Sancho, Nkunku and Felix all coming on.

Bournemouth ran out of steam with about 20 to go and Chelsea nicked it late on.

Sancho played well when he came on linked well with Cucurella.

They are going to need a lot of goals this season as at the back they are poor.

Bournemouth were all over them.

They looked poor, Jackson is terrible.

There is a dearth of good forwards around.

Sancho looked ok

Agree. Bournemouth were very unlucky not to win. Smash and grab by Chelsea.

Hardly - if Zirkzee hadn’t touched that Garnacho shot in then we probably would have won.

Remember the narratives and how the result played out dont matter to most on here just the final result.

Maresca has said Sancho wasn’t selected for the last 2 games for tactical reasons.

I chuckled at “he has to continue to work hard”.

No Sancho against Arsenal. Is he injured?

Yes missed the midweek game as well.

Neto is starting to nail down his spot and he’s falling down the pecking order after a couple of good early games.

250 minutes since Arsenal scored.

Someone said: "Will Arsenal ever score again?"

Long live Martinelli.

Was that move loan with obligation or option?

For Sancho?

It's an obligation to buy as long as they finish 14th or higher in the league.

The higher they finish the higher the obligation fee it's reported as being between £20-25m.
