Casemiro | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Being an unused sub in the 5 games before yesterday tells you the manager isn’t interested in him.

It isn’t about getting the best from him now it’s about how do you get rid of him.

He is 33 in February and you wonder is he thinking about hanging up the boots in the summer. It’s hard to see how he could play at any serious level anymore maybe a return to Brazil if that’s where he sees himself living after retirement.

His contract expires in 2026

Looked like a player who hasn’t played in a month.

So far off the level required he must be considering retirement

Shouldn’t be seen in a United shirt again. Even the basics he is messing up now. Even last season when his legs were going he could still ping a pass but now he seems to have forgotten how to be a footballer.

Sadly the squad is what it is so he will get games but needs to have a swansong somewhere else.

Casemiro strikes me as a player who needs regular football to maintain any sort of firm, a bit like Rooney. Collyer should be given Casemiro’s minutes. His ability on the ball might be limited but he at least as legs.

Hopefully Casemiro leaves in January to ease financial burden/add money to the transfer kitty.

I reckon he’s going to retire at the end of the season.

He turns 33 in a few weeks I really don’t think dropping down levels would appeal to him.

Maybe back to Brazil for a farewell tour. Maybe a good year there and he can sneak into the WC squad for 2026.

Amorim on Casemiro:

“We understand that Casemiro has other things nowadays. The intelligence he has, understanding the game, understanding where the ball is going to fall but we’re in a league that I can see, even in European competitions, the difference in intensity is big.

“And so, I feel that this team also needs players with a very high intensity. And sometimes we don’t have that and sometimes that difference in characteristic can lead one player or another to play.

“Even the fact that the group has a certain characteristic as a group. I needed some players in certain positions with a slightly different pace. But we all know the quality Casemiro has and everything he won. And so, I have nothing to say about that. It’s just a choice.”

So basically he can't run and therefore he can't play.

Seems to be absolutely zero interest in him, does he need to think about retirement?

Why would he retire with 18 months left on his 300k a week contract?

Meant more the end of the season rather than now if there's genuinely no interest from other sides he might decide it's time to retire.

He probably doesn't need the money and maybe doesn't want to waste a year of his life living in Manchester dragging his ar*e into training every day. Next season if we're not in Europe he's probably taking at least a 20% pay cut as well.

Not saying he will do it but if the prospects are basically just spend a year doing the bare minimum in training to keep getting paid he might decide he actually could do something more meaningful with his life and retire early. Maybe he is just using this contract as the pension pot for retirement and is happy to just wind down and put up with the Manchester weather for another year.

No idea how it really works Utd might still end up paying him some of the money for that final year to basically terminate the deal but at the moment it looks like we can forget about a transfer fee and it's really looking at a way to not have to pay him another £15m next season in wages.

I reckon there is still a league out there where he can spend a couple of good years in the twilight of his career. The MLS or Saudi are the obvious ones that come to mind.

Would he be better suited at centre back for a team that defends deep? That way he doesn’t have to do as much running.

Not sure any footballer would walk away from that sort of contract. Sure he's happy to do the bare minimum and take the wages if no one comes in for him now or the summer. If as you said United could come to some sort of arrangement with him where we pay him a certain amount of leave then perhaps that could be work around for him.

You just don't know. I don't get the impression that he's the sort of guy who's happy to just turn up and take the money I'd expect he'd much rather be playing out his final years somewhere.

It really depends on how much he enjoys being in Manchester and is it worth it for money he probably won't need but would be nice to have.

It feels like the Saudi league is going away from the big name veteran players maybe something in MLS might appeal to him if that's an option. Won't be a transfer fee if he goes to MLS though.

It does feel like it might just reach the point in the summer where we have to say to him can we agree a settlement go now and we'll pay you 50% of the salary for this year. It's a terrible deal for Utd but even then it probably saves us £5m in the budget for next season.

It's all our own fault, we shouldn't have paid as much money for him or offered him that stupid contract. I don't blame him for wanting to pick up the money.

We need to stop whinging about it and try and make some use of him if he's not wanted anywhere else.

There’s no blame on him.

It’s on the absolute idiots who made that offer to Madrid and him.

Perez must have been gutted when he saw Utd were under new management.
