Casemiro | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

I think Fred was to much of a wild card you just didn't know what was going to turn up the best version of Fred was a very good player but the worst version of Fred was an absolute liability.

How do you define actual keeping? Surely you judge a goal keeper on the whole package of what you need a keeper to do.

i'm not sure de gea was judged fairly, everyone kept banging on about his distribution.

For me, first and foremost a keeper should be good at keping the ball out the net..

Yeah Fred was a liability, but for what we need, better than Mount

I actually think Fred was better at the role we need than Mount, De Gea is a better - actual keeping, from what we've seen so far, Hojlund unknown.
You know things are bad when ‘Fred was better’ gets banded about! :p

Fred was terrible at the role ETH is trying to fill in the midfield. He couldn’t accept the ball on the half turn most of the time. His passing was seriously iffy. He was so much better in a more offensive position where he had a little more freedom.

I think he was given a lot more time than others were.

Yes all the talk was about his kicking but what also became a problem was his shot stopping he let in to many soft goals, in his day he was absolutely world class but he’s been on a gradual decline since 2018 which was probably his best season.

Well I guess time will tell Fred’s replacement is more likely to be Mainoo with Mount replacing Eriksen but whatever way I look at it we are still 1 body short in midfield. They need another quality option in there.

A conversation about Casemiro has highlighted a number of issues which suggests ETH has got his work cut out to gel these players into a better team.

Apart from violently grabbing Hojlund by the scruff of the neck(in a you can win us this way)didn't really notice him. I'll sleep on it, watch the game again and decide if that's a good or bad thing.

To be honest I didn’t really notice him in midfield felt the stand out midfielder was Odegaard the rest all went pretty unnoticed.

Goal apart thought he was piss poor, Eriksen was the Daddy in midfield today.

Really looks like his legs have gone the back end of last season and the start of this season alarm bells are well and truly ringing with this guy.

No surprise last year as the schedule was brutal, this year he's either carrying an injury, or he's looking for a way out!

luckily we have Mount for a bit of competition

edit

*going for sarcastic post of the week*

You should have put a LOL or a laughing emoji after that cos for those without a sarcasm detector that actually reads as a positive on Mount, perish the thought eh?

thought he was really poor last night, but did grab two goals. He is the only player in our squad with more than 1 goal this season.

Goals are a problem again it would seem

He's our best player at attacking the ball in either penalty box.

Felt like he looked a little fitter and didn’t look like he was running in treacle on a few occasions. Much improved performance, think he will still be an influence this season but that can’t be in a midfield of him, Eriksen and Bruno.

Yeah the last couple of games he has been very good. He will benefit from having Amrabat alongside him as they can alternate between holding and going forward. His passing tonight was fantastic.

Seems to take him a while to get going after a break in games but is starting to look back to his best.

He’s struggling. He’s been really poor bar the performance against Palace in the cup and should be dropped for the next game.

We looked much better when Amrabat played as the no. 6 on his own in the second half.

Could do with resting up, and not flying to Brazil, but sadly South Americans tend to put country before club.

Isn’t he the Brazil captain?

Looks miles off his best and his bad run of form dates back to the end of last season.

He has lost a yard and feels like the club need to be thinking about a replacement for him in the summer.

Think the brutal intensity of the League has done for him sadly, which is no surprise considering his age when he arrived, in his position in England you have to work your tripe off 9/10 games home or away, in Spain apart from Barca and A Madrid home and away it's pipe and slippers time. Wouldn't be surprised if he moves on in January, probably to one of the big three in Portugal.

If he does i'd wish him well, and wonder how a 23/24 old Casemiro would have fared, or this version if EtH had used him more sensibly and not flogged him when he was available, ah well ....

Utd in January would need 37.5m for FFP.

In the summer they need 30m

I reckon he ends up in Saudi for a few years with his old Madrid mates.

Not that he’s been in great form but this is bad news we can’t afford more injuries.

He was just finding some form, so this will probably set him back.

But with Amrabat and Mount, we should be ok.

Mainoo might be back soon

Sounds like it's an impact injury so hopefully it's just swelling that needs to go down and he hasn't damaged any ligaments.

Brazil haven't sent him home yet he's just considered doubtful for their game with Uruguay on Wednesday.

He played the full 90 minutes for Brazil on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

Casemiro is staying in Brazil due to injury.

Wont make it back for Saturday and is suspended for Tuesday so nice little holiday.

Are we seeing where his priorities really are?
