Bruno Fernandes | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Even being sent off twice in a season for two yellow cards is pretty poor.

As a captain that was a terrible showing. Keane has been sent off for a couple of times but he is no Keane as a player and as a captain.

We do need better game management from Bruno. He is probably the best player at the club but as captain needs to demand the highest standards of himself and the squad.

Individually yes. But as a team player in a team that wants to keep possession I do not thinks so.

BF is now a liability. Not captain material. Loses possession more often than not. Flails arms like a petulant toddler, and lashes out at opponents when nothing goes right. Undisciplined. Bad example to younger players in squad. I could go on - Get rid of him!

Hi Greame,

Welcome to the forum.

Who should be the captain?

Yes, I get that. That pretty much confirms that there are no candidates in first team squad to take the mantel of Captain, presently. MU need to, quickly as possible, find a Captain, who can lead by example, and motivate the team - BrunoF is not Captain material. Indeed, his recent level of performances fall far below of what is expected of a MU player, let alone Captain. Get rid before his stock falls further.

In the parts of the game I saw he played well.

Could it be that a rest actually does him some good.

Quality pass to Martinez on the goal.

Been our best player all season.

Very few players in the world see that pass.

Been better since amorim arrived, doesn't give away possession so quickly/easily

How is that criticism.

He's improved, the whole team keeps the ball better, which is why our possession stats are better.

He no longer hits loads of Hollywood passes and we retain the ball more.

I really don't see how saying somebody has improved an element of their game is being critical

Another captains performance from Bruno.

Top class again

Thought he was good tonight.

Wasn’t an easy game but on the ball he was the one who kept calm and didn’t panic.

I can't stand him, inconsistent, the only thing he does well on a regular basis is whinge and whine, for me he's part of the problem, when you have the club captain whining and throwing his arms in the air, what sort of message is that sending out to the other players.
I don't think he could motivate a starving pig to eat.
Amorim had the chance to choose another Captain, that is what he should have done.

Who do you pick?

He consistently sticks his penalties away which we should all be very thankful for.

I get Bruno can be a bit annoying but he's the only guy who you can rely on to be fit every week, plays on when injured, always puts a shift in, takes the responsibility to get on the ball. He's also happy to change position without sulking on the pitch.

The stuff with the refs is annoying but what's even more annoying is just how bad the refs have been this season. I mean just yesterday Brighton could have had 3 separate red cards.

I'm no Bruno fan. But I do think he has improved massively under Amorim. Not quite back to when he joined. But I've been enjoying him again

De Ligt, no rule says the Captain has to take the penalties

Probably should be a rule that the captain doesn't give them away though ;) Is it 2 or 3 he's given away this season? Needs to learn to keep those arms down.

We saw with Maguire making a guy who's been here 5 minutes captain probably not the smartest idea.

Personally I see the captain's role as 100% about how they conduct themselves off the pitch.

The captain needs to be the person willing to be the voice of the players in interviews, they have to be willing to give up their time to kiss the backside of the sponsors and they need to be someone who turns up every day 100% focused on their job.
