Expecting a big season from the captain! At times at the start of last season he was a little out of sorts but towards the end he was back to the Bruno we are used to.

Hopefully our attackers can actually help him out this year and put some of the chances away!

PL: Manchester United 1-0 Fulham - 16th August

Not a performance to announce your new deal with but did well in the build up to the goal.

Hopefully just a bit of rust and we will see a more clinical Bruno in games to come.

He looked like a player who is short of match sharpness, which is to be expected. There were a few occasions where he dwelled on the ball when he could have played an earlier pass.

Yeah only 1 pre season game under his belt hopefully that’s blasted the cobwebs off and that sharper finishing will come in.

Did very well in the build up on the goal.

On another night he could have easily had a couple. Think he’ll get plenty of goals this season.

I admit that I was at times very critical of Bruno last season. I genuinely hope with the new contract and a run of games we will once again see what we know he is capable of.

Premier League: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Manchester United - 24th August 2024

He was unusually replaced. He had a poor game but was it the right call to replace him?

Was an odd substitute though

Maybe it's just a wake up call, so he knows he's not undroppable

My guess it was injury management.

Bruno had no pre season so not taking any risks.

He is a brilliant player but he is not going to play the game like ETH wants him to play. Especially with Mainoo beside him. They do not complement each other. Added to that none of our forwards can keep possession too.
We should have kept Amrabat and Cas in midfield with either Bruno or Mainoo. Playing Ugarte is not going to help either. It is simply the numbers. If we are a strict counter attacking side then Bruno would be a fantastic player for the team. But he needs to play a displaced game like against City in the Final.

I think Bruno can still be a very important player for us moving forward with the right system and coach. You can afford one player total creative freedom but it has to be done with intelligence, the coach is responsible for telling the player those instructions. For example when and who to press and when not to; highlight the positions of weakness in each team, and tell him how to exploit them. Bruno can only do so much - he's clealry an amazing player with creativity, but I doubt he understands how best to use it against each team. I think that is what we are seeing under ETH.

His bigger problem is simple though - we just don't play well under this manager at all. The consistency is non-existant.

Yes you can afford that freedom but not when there are other players who also do not make an effort. Mainoo is a good player but I cannot see a midfield that is going to be successful in winning a league with both Bruno and Mainoo in it with Rasfhord also playing.

Well these are the tough decisions aren't they? You'd be surprised what can work with the right instructions.

I have my doubts about the same thing as you though.

ETH tried to play the Diamond in a cup game I think and got taken apart because he also got the selection wrong in my view. he played Eriksen as the left sided midfield and he got caught many times. He is not capable of playing in that position. I think ETH should play both Cas and Ugarte in midfield with either Bruno or Mainoo and not both of them.

Poor performance. He really is a frustrating player to watch at times.

Think he should and will be phased out in the next year or two.

Poor start to the season from him.

Needs to get going quickly as he’s such an important player in this team.

He has to provide the killer touch in the final third and currently we aren’t really seeing it enough.

I said last season that I felt he's overrated. I say it again and I would be interested to try a couple of games without him. He wastes more than he creates in my opinion

People need to remember how we play without Bruno. He's the most important player in the side we cannot play without him in the prem.

I think the team has to learn how to play without him.

When he’s playing badly and breaking down our attacks to often he has to come off. Others have to be able to step in.

When other top players have poor games they get subbed doesn’t make them bad players.

So, undroppable even if in poor form?

He was poor form 15 minutes. He certainly isn't in poor form.

But yeah there is no one else in the squad anywhere his level even in poor form.

The issue is we are seeing his level less and less. He needs to fight for his place like every other player.

I agree on that but the actual problem is he's so much better even when playing poorly than every other option we have. Also let's not forget he should have had 2 assist today. Not his fault the chances were missed.

One of our best games was against Liverpool without him. This current team is very capable of playing without him. Last year probably less. he is one of the most indisciplined players I have seen. he vacates his space and then we get all opened up in midfield.

What about the ones he missed?

The rebound off the Garnacho chance for example.

He needs to be taking his chances as well

There's a lot of, not his fault, gets said about players and manager.

But it is their fault. They collectively put a team out, and it fails.

It fails because players don’t finish chances though.

17 big chances missed in 5 games. That’s 3.5 a game as a manager you can’t put the ball in the net for them.

Just seen the one Bruno missed second half that’s an absolute sitter for a player of his quality.

It doesn't matter if they miss chances.

It's not an acceptable excuse, Manchester United should be putting teams out that beat Palace

Collectively, as a club, it's not good enough and the fans deserve better.

But its players that miss the chances so yesterday for me its on the players not the manager. Same as Brighton.

Liverpool I think management was a factor in that mess.

Back to Bruno when it’s not his day he should be subbed. Mount is sat there on the bench maybe he’s not fully fit but yesterday was one of those games where you have to hook Bruno and give someone else a crack
