Bruno Fernandes | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

Jamie Dornan interview on R5, basically summed up my attitude towards Bruno perfectly if anyone listens.

So I'm not the only one

You aren't the only one Mr C.

Bruno like many players splits opinion amongst the fan base.

I just feel like there's a priority list for any manager to work down and Bruno is on that list but right now he's nowhere near the top.

Think he needs to worry about sorting the leaking roof (metaphoric one not the literal one) before he worries about changing the old carpet.

The club need a striker, at least 2 wingers, a couple of midfielders and some new centre backs there's a lot to do before you add a Bruno upgrade to the list.

In terms of the players United need I agree with you. But I think he’s part of the rotten attitude and mentality at the club. And he’s an awful captain and leader.

He might be a bit of a cry baby when he doesn’t get his own way but he works harder than anyone on the pitch and he is always available.

I suspect how he conducts himself in training and off the pitch is the reason he was made captain more than on field stuff.

Bruno was great when he first came but has lost his way somewhat, strange that he’s looked out of sorts for so long.
Making him captain was a mistake too but we have a team of soft twats none of them are worthy of the armband.

Putting in the most km could also mean he's out of position a lot.

Bruno can be superb, but those moments are getting fewer and fewer. He gives away way too much possession for me

It's my opinion, and it's harsh, but to move this team on we need to move him on and have new approach. I figured this is why we bought Mount

Replacing Bruno with Mount. Makes me want to cry. It’s like we want to get worse.

I just don’t see a leader at all. I see a cry baby and a whinger and he wouldn’t motivate me as captain that’s for sure.

who in that group would motivate you? Top players don’t need a captain to motivate them you motivate yourself.

There was a seriously lack of candidates but ETH sees them every day and decided Bruno was the guy.

The guy that’s clearly the best on the pitch yet runs harder than anyone with a clear desire to win wouldn't motivate you.

I’d probably give up on competing if that’s the case.

You guys are so funny! You genuinely think that Fernandes is a really good player don’t you? He’s a diving, whinging, moaning loser who wouldn’t make the City, Liverpool, Arsenal or even Villa starting XI.

I have always said that Bruno cannot play in a Ten Hag style or Dutch style team as he gives possession way too much. Plus he cannot play the one twos. He is a fantastic player in a counter attacking team where he plays a very good long pass. I know Casemiro in injured but I feel a midfield of Casemiro, Mainoo and Christian is a better option than Bruno playing.

I think Fernandes has proven he is a really good player but he is struggling at the moment in a poor team. He has shown in the past what he is capable of.

Put him in that City, Liverpool etc team and he will pile up some brilliant numbers in terms of assist and goals.

Personally I don’t like how much he whinges and waves his arms about, it just shows up a poor attitude but that doesn’t make him a bad player.

He would be more effective in a better team of course but is any of the United players going to get away with what they are doing in a Liverpool or a City team being so selfish. Now Fernandes is not a selfish player at all but he does not play in a way that is possession based. I am sure that he does not go against his manager's wishes and he tries extremely hard but there is no cohesion in the team and it is the number 10 that needs to bring that cohesion.

We will never know so it’s a fun debate to have bud. I personally don’t think he would. For a player who’s capable of producing such magic I’ve never seen a player struggle with some pretty basic stuff at times. He’s enigmatic for sure but he lacks control. That’s why he’s at United and not a top team.

I don't think either of those coaches would put up with his sloppiness.
City are a possession based team, Pep loses his s when they give possession away cheaply

De Bruyne said Bruno is the best footballer in the league. But yeah you know more than Kevin.

Who gives the ball away more Bruno or De Bruyne? A clue. It isn’t Bruno.

You realise #10’s are supposed to play the risky passes?

Are you trying to say Bruno is better than De Bruyne. Because here's a clue, he's not, not even close.

No. I think De Bruyne is the best footballer in the world. Just your talk of Pep wouldn’t handle a player giving the ball away is rubbish. No one gives the ball away more than De Bruyne in the league.

De Bruyne can say what he wants. Fernandes is far from the best player in the league. I wouldn’t put him top 20. Id argue not even top 50.

50 who are better … go.
De Bruyne, Salah, Haaland, Watkins, Alvarez, Grealish, Foden, Nunez, Diaz, Saka, Odegaard, Dias, Rodri, Rice, Van Dijk, Guimaraes, Son, Silva, Mitoma, Maddison, Bowen, Isak, Doku, Toney, Martinelli, Mbeumo, Kudus, Gordon, TAA, Luiz, Palmer, Kulusevski.

So ok fair top 50 was too far. He’s not top 30.

I mean. It’s a list I guess.

Palmer and Kulu?

Nunez. A Christmas cracker joke?

Spurs fans hate Kulu because of how often he gives the ball away. Haha.

Of your list I’ll give you Salah, De Bruyne, Rice.

You could make a case for the ones not crossed out but definitely not the others. Even some of the others I’ve left it’s tight.

And guys it’s a fun debate to have it really is. I’m just saying what I think and I don’t rate him as a top top player. I wouldn’t build a team with him in that I wanted to challenge for major honours.

He was really good tonight I have to say. I’m not a huge Bruno person, I think he’s super talented but isn’t controlled enough and isn’t a leader. But he showed me up there tonight as he was a leader and he was really controlled.

Majestic last night, a proper Manchester United(in crisis) Captains performance. Guess he got booked for being Portuguese.

Quiet in here, as usual Rashford, Eriksen get the grief.

Awful today, gave possession back way too many times. Countless Hollywood passes tried deep in our own half when under pressure. A better brain plays simple and keeps possession in those circumstances

You understand we were playing on the counter as the game plan?
