Bruno Fernandes | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

FFS, drop him, take the armband off him, get him out the club! truly hysterical nonsense from some of you.
I doubt anyone would have had such views prior to today. What makes you think it cannot be dealt with and be recoverable.

Mr. C has always had some issue with him.

I've watched the moment he 'asked to come off' it's actually something being made or nothing by an angry Neville.

And that game is why, he's a sunshine player, when the going gets tough he reverts to the stroppy spoilt brat.

Apart from most of my posts last season on him, and a lot at the start of this, then yeah.

Another cracking post based on nothing.
At least my views are based on what I see, not on what I hear others say.
I would consider your ability to deliver any sound judgement on anything Manchester United to be rather handicapped.

I only heard Neville say it. I have no recollection of it from watching the game. Wonder if anyone can post a video of the moment?

Big thing for me yesterday was we all know where the weakness is in that Liverpool defence it's the space behind TAA yet we put Bruno out there to exploit it.

Tactically I think ETH got it wrong on the day but he's got a problem. He clearly doesn't trust Sancho at the moment, Garnacho isn't ready to start a game like that, Eriksen is injured, Martial is injured so he's kind of got 4 attacking players that he has to shuffle around at the start of games.

Bruno I felt should have been subbed as part of that first change it wasn't his day and that frustration clearly bubbled up.

The whole asking to be subbed thing is just speculation he was waving his arms waiting to take a kick off while Utd made changes. However, it was pretty clear on TV for the last half hour after it went to 4-0 he just wasn't interested which as captain you can't allow to happen.

If you think my opinion is meaningless, that's fine, that's your judgement. But to say I had based my opinion of Bruno just on yesterday's game was not true. He has the attiude of a footballer that I abhor, but he does have a few displays that cover it up

Yeah you can't tell with him, he's always flapping his arms around. Giving up chasing back is unacceptable in a united Liverpool match.

In hindsight, it was the wrong team. Antony doesn't get back enough and left Dalot exposed. Fred can only play when Casemiro is on form, and he wasn't so Fred's game just drops off.

I would definitely drop Bruno for Thursday to send a message to the squad, and probably a couple of others.

And I wouldn't be surpised if Bruno moves onto the at risk group in the transfer market. You can't have playes that behave like that and drop off. And that flapping his arms and shouting at the ref and linesman for no reason is not good enough. I think when ETH joined he said he didn't want to see that.

I still can't believe what I'm reading when people say Bruno is at risk. He's in our best 3 players. He's only behind De Bruyne and Tripper for chances created in the league this season. (Second to De Bruyne for big chances created) 10 ahead of Odegaard who people is saying is having the season of his career. It's very unusual for Bruno to give up. He runs more than anyone else on that pitch and is a born winner. Yesterday his head may have gone but he was far from the only one. As I've pointed out already he was also far from the worst one. He's just an easy target. There was a reason Martinez found himself subbed off. He was just as bad as Bruno for losing his head and there is almost no mention of it.

He can be a great player on his day

But as you know, it's his attitude that really irritates me. And I don't like to see it. I can't tell you how much it winds me up. He should not flap his arms at other players, or the ref or do any of that nonsense. He's playing football for Man Utd, literally millions of people would love to do that. Cut out the nonsense and play football. He flaps his arms at players when he misplaces a pass ffs. So for me, regardless of how good he can be, and his stats, I'd ship him out because I want to see something different in my players. A player should never stop running either. But that's just me, I know.

Yeah, a few players need to hand their head in shame for yesterday, It's not one person that's responsible for that.

I'm just glad it was this weekend, I'm off to Vegas to meet up with a pool fan next week, that would have been a nightmare.

A united fan, a Liverpool fan and an Arsenal fan, luckily none of us are playing each other or it could ruin the weekend :D

I don't think he'll be dropped but I think the armband has to be taken away. There are certain things that can never be accepted and giving up for half an hour is one of them.

Standards need to be raised at this club and behaviour like that isn't on especially when you are captain.

Bruno makes himself an easy target when it’s not going well for him or the team. There is no doubting he’s a very good player and creates many chances for us but it’s the other side of his game that can frustrate fans.

As I said though he was no worse than Martinez and Casemiro for losing their heads yesterday but I've not seen anyone targeting them.

Bruno is a repeat offender though of throwing a paddy when things aren’t going well. I don’t blame one player above another yesterday, Bruno was just one of a number of shocking performances.

It just reminds me a lot of Maguire. Whole defence has a bad game and people get the knives out for Maguire.

And the hyperbole behind he's going to be sold or is at risk is irritating because it's not going to happen. If it does then it shows we have no desire to be a top club again. Teams don't get rid of their best players.

It's not hyperbole when it's just my opinion, lets not get carried away, it's nobody else saying this.

I think there are many cases of managers getting rid of their best players, if their attitude stinks and is having a negative effect on the team btw.

You could easily replace Bruno with an equally good player with a better attitide.

I think the difference is it never felt like Martinez or Casemiro stopped trying which is my main issue with Bruno yesterday and it's not normally something I'd throw at him but yesterday he packed it in after 60 minutes.

Casemiro to me clearly didn't look fit yesterday he was pretty much limping right from the start of the game something clearly wasn't right with him but he clearly wanted to play through it. He took a big hit in one of the recent games and played on and I don't think he's looked right since.

As captain you are put above everyone else to a certain degree you are meant to be the one who never lets his standards drop certainly when it comes to attitude. That is why the best player shouldn't be captain it should be the player who you can rely on to always do the non-negotiables for you as a a manager and one of them is hard work.

Like I said before I don't see him being frozen out or sold in the summer but I wouldn't be surprised if the armband is removed. The issue is after a day like yesterday who can you actually pass it on to.

Varane should be captain, barking at the players to go and thank the following fans

I like Bruno. I like his endless energy, but his quality can be inconsistent. He could be upgraded but not an absolute priority.

I agree, he reminded the players of their obligations and to not run off to the dressing room.

His energy is both positive and negative. His boundless energy is infectious (yesterday not included), however alot of the time the energy is misplaced, complaining to his team mates or officials.

As you say, replacing him is not a priority, but if EtH thinks he is not the right character for his team, then he will eventually be replaced.

You wonder if his reaction yesterday might have been a result of him getting a bit p*ssed off about getting stuck on the wing in recent matches.

It doesn't excuse it but I do wonder if that might have added an extra level of frustration to his performance.

It is baffling that we're shuffling Bruno wide because our striker can't play up front.

I've watched the moment he 'asked to come off' it's actually something being made or nothing by an angry Neville.
He was asking for clarification of his position, not asking to come off.

All that tells us is you have been hysterical for a long time and not just since Sunday afternoon.

So, EtH confirms Bruno will remain captain and says he will learn from his mistakes during the Liverpool game.
The boss has done his job! Sorted!

I suspect there were different conversations had in private compared to the one in public but Ten Hag as always in public has got it spot on in my opinion.

His handling of the media has been excellent from day one.

Again Ten Hag nailed it in his press conference about Bruno, he really is showing he’s got top quality man management skills.

Full of praise about his performance last night but commented on his need to control his emotions as when he loses control it is to the detriment of the team.

As good as he was against Betis, he was equally as poor today. He wanted too much time on the ball and his passing was sloppy.
His square pass nearly cost a goal. Both him and AWB need to thank Licha for bailing them out of trouble.

Produced the only moment of magic in the game and almost forced the goal. It's hard for a player in his position when the movement ahead of him isn't happening from the CF. We need to stop playing Wout and the performances will improve.

Sorry, but he really was a bit overly casual with the ball on numerous occasions today. When you are playing with 10 men it's a god idea to look where you are passing before making the pass.
