would love this signing, but can't see it.

Better teams will be in for him

How many of the big clubs are going to be in the market for a striker this summer?

I think people are reading way to much into an agent going to a football match.

Who's making these decisions on players though? I just can't take any reporting of what our plans are for the summer seriously as who's even in charge?

Sesko will be an obvious target for a lot of clubs as he's young and has a fairly low release clause in his deal reporting at around 50m euros but his record at Leipzig is hardly out of this world.

I just don't see spending that sort of money on another centre forward given we've already spent more than that on Hojlund and there are so many other areas to fix.

I think our centre forward signing could be underwhelming for a lot of fans this summer, fully expect it to be a bit of a journeyman either on a free or a relatively low fee especially if we're not in Europe.

I don’t think we will be spending big money on a striker this summer. Behind is where we really need to start clearing out the deadwood and investing wisely.

I think we could look to get someone in on the cheap and take advantage of a low release clause like Guirassy at Stuttgart.

Or we could just keep Martial….

you don't win anything without a good striker, no matter the rest of the team is like. It's a key position that needs addressing for me

Is Sesko a good striker or is he another Hojlund? If he was banging in a goal a game and was available for 50m you'd say no brainer but he isn't he's scoring 1 in 2 in an easier league than Hojlund.

They've backed Hojlund he's going to be the number 1 next season they just need to find someone that can compete with him for that spot.

I think if they bring in an attacker this summer it'll need to be someone who can play as a centre forward but also potentially play wide if needed.

If Hojlund is the main guy, season is a write off. Definitely need someone in to push him.

Nowhere near ready. years off.

Also, Germany, minutes away for 2 teams in the CL final, odds on to win the other European final.

Much stronger league that Italy, where Hojlund struggled last year.

It's no recent thing, we tried to sign him when he was 17

Not sure we'd pair him with Hojlund as we'd have to change system probably to 3-5-2, mmm that's Tuchel's formation of choice ....

It might be a write off or the backup we need to him might chip in with a decent contribution that helps us out. The team might learn how to play with Hojlund and he might learn how to play with them.

New manager or not I expect things will be very different next season, they just have to be. Next season at best is going to be a top 4 fight we'll be nowhere near the top 2 in my opinion unless we bring in 5 or 6 quality players that fit straight in and gel into a team.

The UEFA co-efficient system would suggest otherwise this season Italy are ranked number 1 ahead of Germany.

He managed 2 goals in 8 games in CL this season think Hojlund got 5 in 6.

All the problems we've had with Hojlund this season we will just have again next season with Sekso. He's making a step up in quality the premier league and will need a season to bed in wherever he goes. Unless the plan is to play 2 up top and play them together I just don't see the point in spending big on another striker unless he's 100% going to be miles better than Hojlund like Kane.

Seems odd that you’d look to sign another young player? Talented though he may be.
I agree, very odd.

We can't afford to buy another young striker if we actually want to score goals next season.

Do not want.

Can we field a 14 year old

Kai seems to be the best forward at the club :D

Solanke would be a good addition. 1 in 3 for Bournemouth is a decent record. What do reckon the transfer would be - £50m?
Yeah I think so too. 41 apps; 21 goals; 4 assists.

I think that price sounds about right, and probably makes sense to Bournemouth. They could use the money to bring in 2 or 3 players.

Is Solanke’s season just a flash in the pan though? There are so many instances of strikers having a good season then tailing off.

It would take more than one good season for Bournemouth to make me want him to be honest. Before this season he was doing nothing of note in the EPL.

I think Bournemouth would want a lot more than £50m for him he under contract to 2027 unless there's a release clause he's the difference between staying up and getting relegated.

I don't see us spending that much on the centre forward I reckon it'll be a cheap backup striker especially if we're not in Europe next season.

You need to score goals to achieve anything, they defo need to invest whatever it takes in the area.

Jonathan David could be a good shout. Nearly entering the last year of his contract so would be available at a knock down price you would think.

If we could get him for £40m then I think he’s very good value. There is always a doubt about players coming in from the so called lesser leagues but he’s been very consistent for Lille.

Thoughts on him @Mr C, as I guess you watch a bit of Ligue 1?

He's done ok a Lille, but he's not at the level at all, probs worse than Hojlund

Of course you need goals but they need to come from all areas everyone has to do better next season including Hojlund.

I just don't see Utd spending £50m on another specialist centre forward.

There's no money coming in for Martial but a decent saving off the wage bill so I think they'll be looking for a centre forward who's under £10m or on a free that can compete with Hojlund for that starting spot.

Ok, I see that opinion.

But alarm bells would be ringing for me. Hojlund is nowhere near good enough yet. We defo need an upgrade somehow.

For me, it's probably the most important signing along wth CB.

I think they have to back the gamble they made with Hojlund that with 1 full season under his belt we'll suddenly see a big improvement. We have seen glimpses of a top striker this season but nowhere near enough to be sure that we've nailed that spot down long term.

He needs to go away this summer and come back a bit stronger and polish up a few of the weak spots in his game but a big part of pre season needs to be him working with the other forwards on how they're going to attack teams as a group. That didn't happen last summer as he wasn't here for pre season we basically spent all of pre season last year using Sancho as a false 9 which basically made pre-season a waste of time from a tactical point of view.

It felt like we started to see the makings of a potential front 3 around Dec/Jan/Feb where they were finding each other more and starting to click but in the last few months it seems to have gone back to every man for himself which isn't good.

I think this summer we go cheap on the backup centre forward the money has to be spent in midfield and defence this summer. I think we need two starting quality centre mids, a starting quality centre back and a backup striker. That's to replace Casemiro, Eriksen, Varane and Martial who I expect will all leave this summer.

After that a lot comes down to who else leaves.

If Hojlund doesn't kick on next season then next summer we're going to have to spend big on another striker.

Ive not seen that

Must be those funny angles on your French TV channels :p

In the champions league games he scored 5 in 6 games and there was a little spell around Christmas time where he started banging them in before he got injured and hasn't really been the same since.

Think that's his level, no shame in that, everybdy, everybody wanted him going into the last World Cup but he stunk the place out, and if he couldn't do it on that stage, it's unlikely one of the bigger clubs will risk paying out serious money for him. You'd take him on a free though.

So United are going to go another window without addressing their single biggest issue? Midfield. That has to be the priority. That midfield is a joke. Mainoo obviously is superb but who plays alongside him next year? They literally don’t have the numbers let alone the quality.

For the midfield we have Mount, Casimero, Mainoo, Mctom, and possibly Amrabat.

To get a centre midfielder we need to sell one of those to fund it. We can't have 5/6 players for 2 positions

Mount isn’t really a midfielder he’s an attacking player. Casemiro has looked washed all year. McTominay is a squad player nothing more. Amrabat likely isn’t back.

I don’t disagree United need to raise funds but midfield needs to be the priority. They don’t have options and even if you make the case that they do then those options are flat out bad.
