Can see why Villa can’t turn down that money but Duran can do so much better than fritter away a couple of years of his blossoming career in a farmers league.

No doubt insane wages being offered but such a waste for me if he does go.

Do you think we could persuade them to offer £77m for Rashford instead?

A career can be over quick if you get an injury.

If at 22 you have the chance to set yourself and family up for life I think you have to take it.

Yeah totally get that but if you’re driven by goals beyond money, you may look at a couple of years in Saudi as a real waste professionally speaking.

Although sure if I was a player and Saudi money came calling, I would probably take it for the reason you say of setting your family up for life.

He could set himself up for life at any club. A shocking move and i hope he regrets it.

Getting anymore than he would at Arsenal for example?

Awful career choice and he'll laugh to the bank but he's wasted the best years of his career. Idiot. Mo club will take him seriously in 4 years time.

Is this the biggest transfer for Saudi though. This isn't an end of career player. This is massive shift in the landscape of players going there.

I suspect the 0% tax rate will mean he takes home a lot more in Saudi than he would at Arsenal.

Football is littered with young strikers who looked like being the next big thing and it never really happened.

I wouldn't call it a massive shift that would be landing someone like Mbappe, Bellingham, Vini, Haaland etc. Taking a big player in their prime away from a club that doesn't want to lose them. I don't think Duran meets that threshold yet.

I dont know you're talking about a player here who we would love to sign. West Ham bid £57m for him last week. He's choosing the Saudi league over the PL. He's got plenty of chances to stay here but isn't.

That signifies a shift to me. Usually it's those without other options that end up there.

I haven't seen anywhere near enough of Duran to say I'd love to sign him. There's certainly a lot of hype around him but there's still miles to go for him to be classed a top player. If Utd are going for a striker I think we've got to go for someone with a big more of a proven record the gambles on young up and comers I think won't work at Utd due to the pressure of the job.

There were certainly a few that took the jump early doors who's time in Europe was up but there were also players like Ruben Neves, Brozovic, Milinkovic-Savic, Mitrovic and Toney who could easily have stayed in Europe and probably moved to decent sides who moved out there.

Duran hasn't turned down a top European Side to go there he's turned down West Ham.

I think it was the club that turned it down, not the player.

Heard a ridiculous stat on Ollie Watkins this morning.

He hasn't missed a league game through injury in 8 years when he broke in to the first team.

Looks like this is definitely a goer. Would never begrudge anyone from chasing the coin but still a strange move on a pure footballing level.

Although for Villa, they’ve done the right thing selling Duran instead of Watkins. Watkins is far superior right now in all aspects and at the moment Duran is just good potential.

A couple of potentially shrewd loan moves in Asensio and Rashford. Brought in Disasi from Chelsea as well.

Not sure what happened to Asensio, was so good for Madrid when I saw him but it’s sort of fizzled out at PSG.

Think Asensio had a couple of bad knee injuries from memory.

The Duran money has given them a chance to flex a bit with a few loan deals to bulk out the squad a bit as they carry on in Europe.
