Arsenal Discussion 2024/25

Didn't realise they were already 5 points behind City.

Feels silly but 9 games in are they out of the race?

dunno, city injuries are mounting up

Sounds like someone needs to start taking out a few Liverpool players.

They're ticking along rather annoyingly looking like they'll be the main competition for City this season.

You were being a bit silly, yes. They're not out of the race already, it's far too early to know anything like that. They should avoid losing any more ground and getting Odegaard back is key for them; think he's due back very soon.

Always felt the only way to beat this city is to get ahead of them early.

They just aren’t the sort of side that drops off and lets you catch them as they always finish so strong.

Ideally you'd want to be ahead of them, yes. Maybe I'm just hopeful something different can happen.

Arsenal definitely can't afford to lose any more ground though, that is 100% certain. The injuries may play a big part in the next set of fixtures and probably give Arsenal some hope to catch back up.

I predict City will drop some points in the near future. A full strength side and maybe I would have gone the other way.

Arsenal need to sort out their discipline 3 red cards in 9 games isn’t good

Arsenal look terrible today. Only saka looking interested.

Newcastle winning 1-0.

Looks like it's going to be an opportunity missed too. City very likely to lose.

Shows how vital Odegaard is to them.

Without him their attack just doesn’t seem to function.

The Arteta Arsenal golden generation of success is over. They'll celebrate those two second places first year's.

It highlights why cups are better than being the first losers.

Doubtful. He'd probably be keeping up with the top teams if he didn't lose Odegaard.

One thing people may say is he made a massive mistake not recruiting a striker. Other than that I don't see any big errors.

I would say top 4 could be argued as better than domestic cup, for income and transfers

In 10 years time cups wins will still be talked about.

Finishing top 4 won’t be.

Top 4 is probably better for helping you kick on for a title challenge but Arsenal’s title charge came after finishing 5th.

We’ve had so many top 4 finishes then gone backwards. Think only Ole has delivered back to back top 4 finishes in the post Fergie era.

If you don't get top 4 you don't get the money in, or attract the big players, so long term you struggle.

After finishing 5th Arsenal signed Jesus and Zinchenko from City. If you pay the money they will come.

Obviously you can’t sustain it very long if you don’t become a regular top 4 side.

I always felt the easiest way to finish top 4 is to start every season with the attitude of winning the league.

Utd have spent more than most while only being in the CL every other year and being nowhere near winning it.

What Arsenal probably can’t afford now is to slip out of the top 4 this season.

Bit out of the blue that one.

He’s done a good job with Arteta rebuilding that club over the last few years.

You never really know who’s doing what but things certainly took a turn for the better when he came in.

Arsenal should really be beating teams like Everton if they want to win the league this season.

Just Liverpool and Arsenal giving city a little boost before the derby

2 points dropped against Brighton. Arsenal can’t be dropping any points if they want to challenge for the title.

Inspired subs by Brighton, it was all Arsenal in the first half, all Brighton in the 2nd, and they looked more likely to score.

They’re out of the race.

To catch Liverpool they’ll basically need to win every game with Saka out for 2 months they’ve got no chance unless they did something big in the transfer window.

They just haven’t been able to put teams away this season.

They really need a striker.

Don't think I'd put them out of the race yet though, just based upon a team leading who have no understanding of getting over the line. There is still a lot of time for Liverpool to throw it away. It's probably unlikely looking at them, but who actually predicted City to go on their recent run of defeats? Nobody is who.

All it would take is for Liverpool to lose a couple and Arsenal to take advantage of that and they're right back in it.

Striker and a winger.

Saka is the only top class player in their front 3.

For all the slagging we get, and mainly rightly so. WTF has Arteta done

Well he’s built a very competitive side but he’s built it from the back to the front. It’s a very good XI but there’s no depth in that squad.

They’ve not really signed many forward players under him. Think it’s just Trossard and Jesus who’ve been permanent signings since he arrived.

Havertz was signed as a midfield player and while he’s done well as a number 9 he isn’t a world beater in that position.

They need to spend some money on that attack.
