Be amazed if they can even pay half his wages.

Utd need to get him playing somewhere if they want to stand any chance of selling him in the summer.

I hope we’ve got a couple of incoming deals lined up, as while Antony hasn’t cut it he’s at least a squad option.

Yeah if Antony and Rashford go we are so short in attack.

Both need replacing but there’s not even a sniff of who Utd are looking at.

While I am not disappointed with this, I find it strange business, the club are still playing the bulk of his wages, and there is no hint of a permanent move, this is just sweeping the dirt under the carpet.

It's a shop window.

They're praying that he plays well enough that in the summer there's at least some interest in him and the offers are better.

If he stays here he's on full pay and not playing it just means his value is just going down and down.

It's a bit of a "hail mary" approach but with him it's probably the only option they've got.

Even in the summer I'd be surprised if they can sell him but they might find someone willing to have him and pay half his wages for a year.

The downside is we are really short of attacking options as it is so unless people are coming in on loan to help we'll be seeing more kids making up the bench.

So working on basic numbers here he's reported to be on £200k a week lets assume he takes the reported 20% cut when the club aren't in Europe so currently he's on £160k a week or £8m a year.

If they're taking him on loan for half the season do we think they're paying him the £4m he would earn at Utd? Probably not but they should be able to cough up a decent chunk of that money.

From a PSR view Antony costs Utd £16m a season with his transfer fee so half a season is £8m. Normally you'd try to get a loan fee to cover the PSR but we can probably assume that isn't happening here.

So Antony for half a season costs Utd £12m in terms of PSR if they've covered even £6m of that with this loan they've done very well.

I think the figure being peddled about was we are paying 75% of his wages for the loan period, some sources say he's on around £200k a week, so that's around £150K a week for him to play for someone else.
Glazernomics at it's best, especially when we are short of forwards as you say, to me it just doesn't make economic or tactical sense.
United are stuck between a rock and hard place because of stupid past transfer dealings.

I'd be surprised if we're letting Betis off that cheaply unless they're paying a loan fee on top of the wages. It may be that the more he plays the less they pay which is often an incentive built into loan deals as the key thing here is that he's getting minutes on the pitch.

Thing with Antony is coming off the bench for 15-30 minutes every week and doing absolutely nothing going to get us anything in the summer. If he's at Betis and playing even if he just has a handful of good games it might make a few scouts report back that he's worth a gamble.

The whole process around how this guy was signed still baffles me and highlights how poor the behind the scenes management was at Utd at the time. They went into that first ETH summer with no plan and ended playing stupid prices and wages on players that mean we are now screwed.

Hope it goes well for him.

His confidence slowly eroded at Utd, he needs a fresh start.

What were we thinking paying such daft money

We weren’t thinking.

Desperate to back a new manager we did some very silly things that summer.

Things that should never ever happen again.

Hope it goes well for him.

Yeah I hope he can rediscover his spark.

Started so well with those goals vs Arsenal and City but his form steadily got worse and any confidence he had was shot to pieces. Could never fault his application though, which you could for certain other players over the years.
