Yeah I think a loan with the loaning club paying some of the wages maybe how it goes. No-one is paying £55m at this time - that should have been the fee we paid for him to be honest. We were fleeced which has happened a lot the last few years. For FFP purposes Utd need to sell for £55m to break even on him.
I reckon there's decent a chance he ends up out on loan next season as it's not worked out and it's hard to really see a way back for him now.
Even Ten Hag seems to have given up on him.
If I was INEOS my first job will have been looking at the decision making process on how they ended up paying that ridiculous fee for him. From start to finish I'd want to interrogate every step of the process and I'd probably sack everyone who signed off on that transfer fee. Did anyone in that process push back and say this is a mistake.
For what it's worth I don't think the manager ever has a say on the transfer fee the club agrees to pay.

Yeah that’s something that will surely change, we cannot keep overpaying. If we have a figure in mind then got to stick with it, most times clubs will accept eventually but instead we pile on £20m more!Even that is double what the club apparently valued him at initially. The reports that came out suggest the initial valuation on Anthony was £25-30m.
We allowed ourselves to be fleeced by waiting until the very last minute of that window. I bet Ajax couldn't believe it when that deal was put on the table by Utd.
Hopefully this lot have got the balls to walk away from deals rather than panic buy something the last regime sadly lacked.

I think we should struggle to get £20-30m for Antony right now. Most clubs outside of the EPL cannot afford the £50m plus transfer fees and wages on top. But I really cannot see any English clubs wanting him based on his performances.

Are you still going with that nonsense? A Brazilian International tearing up the Eredivisie for £25m when a run of the mill fullback was costing £50m(thanks City!), if that's the case the bloke who valued him at that should be out the door a long time before the bloke that signed off on the £80m we paid for him, but probably both should go.
What did Gakpo go for 35m or how about Ziyech 33m or how about Depay 30m or Kudus 38m. Maybe his valuation was a little low but it was a lot bloody closer to the right price than the one we agreed to pay.
His international team mates Raphinha, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus all moved for considerably less in the same summer window.
As for full backs which run of the mill full back cost 50m? We picked up Malacia for 15m, Chelsea got Gusto for 26m, Liverpool paid 12m for Tsimikas, Arsenal paid 20m for Tomyasu, Newcastle 32m for Livaremento and Spurs 35m for Porto. No one is paying 50m for run of the mill full backs.
Not sure what player a, b, g, p and z were sold for has got to do with the nonsensical value you read United valued Antony at.
And I'll ignore the fact most if not all the fullbacks you listed were 21 or younger and had achieved sod all in the game thus were relatively cheap. But well done to you and your research team.
Well you would assume you calculate a players value based on similar transfers for similar profile players moving from the Dutch league to the premier league. I’m happy to take what I read as fact you’ve decided it isn’t neither of us know the truth but both of us know Ajax absolutely had our pants down for that lad and everyone involved on the Utd end of it will be lucky to have a job next season.
You said run of the mill so I went with squad players. If you want starters. Walker, Chilwell, Wan-Bissaka, Mendy all up near 50m. City also paid around that for Cancelo but very few full backs have ever moved for 50m or more. It certainly isn’t the norm these days.
In the summer we agreed to pay circa £56m for a 4'10" CB from Ajax you'd think the club would expect to pay more for a Brazilian International winger who was keeping Raphinha out of their national team from the same club, so we were never gonna get him for less than the £65m Leeds wanted for Raphinha, we just weren't.
Yeah run of the mill was wrong, the norm for an experienced fullback more apt, thankfully post Covid the prices have come down significantly
An Argentina international 4ft 10 CB. We’ve paid a bit of premium there £48m probably about the going rate for an international centre back these days though?
Not saying 25m was realistic to get Anthony especially in the last week of the transfer window but if there was 86m sitting about to be spent then surely there were better options.
Raphinha went for £49m plus 6m add ons and Richarlison was a similar fee. If that’s your bench mark Utd paid something in the region of 60% above similar players on the market that summer.
It was the sort of deal that a club with half a brain behind it just walks away from. It’s also ridiculous that the club suddenly found that sort of money to strengthen the squad in the last few days of the window.
Will listen to offers over £86M? No club in their right mind is paying anywhere near that. I’d be stunned if a club were to offer over £50M.
But Antony can’t really be considered an option? He’s useless. Better with an academy kid. There's a lot of games to play so I think we'll want to have 4 or 5 options in the wide areas especially with Mount's injuries and it being Amad's first season in the first team.

No idea bud I have no idea on your options. I just think none of them can be worse than Antony.Which academy kid are you suggesting we use?
