Andre Onana | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

I don’t see him changing it.

Was a shame Bayindir got injured after the Arsenal game.

Poor game tonight

Both goals were down to him. Second one maybe there's an argument he was unsighted, but the first seemed to be a total lack of concentration.

Onana deserves all the criticism he will receive for last night’s performance, it’s when he gets criticised for the gowgoalkeeper wasn’t a priority for this summer because of other needs in the team, but his stock has fallen to the point where I don’t think he can comeback.

I really dont know why he`s still getting selected Amorim has to act this time or Onana will think he`s doing enough to get picked.

Just do what SAF did when he dropped Leighton. Bayinder needs at least a couple of games. He is a young keeper and needs at least a few game to get into any form. I do not see that Onana's positives outweigh his negatives. yes he makes some outstanding saves but he lets in some howlers always too.

The big worry also is that he's obviously let Matic get in to his head. A goalkeeper can't be that weak mentally.

He’s been getting picked because the other keepers have been injured and the number 2 is also pretty poor.

I think it’s now past the point of no return a keeper has to be signed in the summer.

Moving Onana on will be tough

According to "The Athletic" Onana is demanding a pay rise, as he wasn't aware there would be 25% pay cut for not making the ECL this season.
The bloke is a walking joke

They must be late in reporting this and he asked for one on April 1st!

I haven't got the full gist of it, but it's occurred because of his change in management company, it seems to be centred on him being the fifth best keeper in the EPL, saying he deserves a pay rise on that account, despite him being 90% of the reason we didn't qualify for the ECL this season.
It all seems a bit Del boy to me, dodgy contract and all that.

If that's the basis of the story, then I'm not sure I trust it

We could very well still qualify for the CL

All players lose out when we don’t qualify for the CL.

Next season could be a bigger cut if there’s no European at all they will likely miss out on other bonuses.

Made good saves at big moments.

Couldn’t do anything on the goals.

I chuckled when Rihanna’s What's My Name was played in the stadium as Onana came out before the outfield players to warm up.

I’d still rather he saved giving it to the opposition fans until after games are won.

Hope he sent his shirt into the Lyon dressing room for Matic.

Oh please just because he has the odd good game it doesn't make Matic wrong

Matic is also one of our worst signings in the last decade.

1 alright season then hung around collecting his massive wages before leaving on a free.

Onana needs to be moved on but for the next couple of months we need to get behind him and last night he was good.

All of them? Second he could have done a lot for but yet again his positioning and footwork were poor.

It all looks easy in slow motion.

He’s got a fairly big distance to cover as the ball is fired across quickly and he can’t quite get it in time.

There are a lot of things on that goal.

Dalot doesn’t do enough to stop the cross.

None of our CBs are marking anyone. Dorgu ends up on Lacazette meaning his man at the back is free. No one has tracked their full back into the box from the other side meaning he’s free.

They get 3 unchallenged contacts on the ball off one cross. That is a problem.

Yeah maybe Onana could have got across but even if he keeps it out the only man alive for a rebound is their CF.

Rather than nit pick every little thing focus on the positives which are he’s made some big saves that should have seen us through in 90 minutes.

I dont think he saved anything we wouldn't expect him to and we conceded 4. It's a massive stretch to suggest he had a good game.

I'd question him on the second and third, it's old habits.
On the second he follows the ball, and makes a skip to his right, if he stays where he is he saves it.
On the third, it's the old problem of him pushing the ball back into the danger area

isn’t is his job to save the ones he should save?

I’m not saying he was 10/10 and pulled off worldies.

He made solid saves to keep them out for as long as we did.

The ones that beat him I don’t think he can do much about.

It was a steady 7/10 game for the big man and that’s what we need from him through to the final.

I’d suggest he keeps his opinions about Bilbao to himself

He did nothing special last night a few good saves but nothing special and was too far away from the centre of his goal for the one he dragged from well over the line, the two howlers from the first leg are still unforgivable mistakes he needs replacing.

I think 7/10 is very generous.
The dive for the penalty was just comical, it's like he doesn't do any research on the players he's facing, as I said previously his old habits cost us two goals, at best I'd give him a 4/10

I think 4/10 is very ridiculous.

I’ve reviewed my 7/10 and decided it’s actually a 9/10.

Extra point for multiple celebrations in front of the away fans. And another one for giving the manager a big cuddle.

Let’s just be fair he’s had a good game after an absolute stinker last week.

Yep on a human level he deserves extra brownie points. In these bad times everyone needs a cuddle.

Sadly my little boy was asleep and my wife watching something else in the other room, so there was just the cat to celebrate with and to be honest she didn’t even care!

Since you mention it
Celebrating in front of the away fans like a complete dickhead -1 point
Hugging Amorim like he's teachers pet -2 points
So 1/10

Yeah I’ve had to perfect my silent celebrations.

My dog left the room at 4-2 he’d seen enough
