Andre Onana | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Yes.

They don't all make mistakes like Saturdays. Can you find me a single example of Ederson or Allison doing such in the last 4 seasons?

Should be quite easy you reckon it's happened 8 times to em.

I mean youtube basically has these sort of compilation videos for everyone but I can think of 1 by Ederson in the last few weeks. He made a right mess of one of the goals in that come back vs Feyenoord.

These are errors leading to goal stats for all 3 in the premier league not totally sure if this deals with fluffed saves.

Alisson 10 in 207 games
Ederson 8 in 262 games
Onana 2 in 53 games

For what it's worth I think Alisson is by some distance the best keeper in the league and has been for years.

He needs taking to one side and sorting out, he doesn’t learn by his mistakes so he’ll need a kick up the arse.

This was my worry you can make a mistake but you have to be able to shake it off quickly and move on.

He looked a bag of nerves all night and cost us a goal with a poor decision.

Luckily his team mates dug him out of the hole this time

I thought it was a foul but it was borderline not enough for VAR to over-rule it.

Utd need to put a defender in to clear those blockers out or it will keep happening.

Amorim needs to highlight twice in a week that fouls on the keeper haven’t been punished to make sure the refs give the next one our way.

I thought it was a foul, doesn't excuse how bad we are at defending or attacking set pieces. Our throw ins still haven't improved

I don’t rate him, he makes some very good saves but his game is limited, he was supposed to be all about his distribution but look at most premiership Keepers now they all have decent passing ability.
He’s garbage on corners and all teams will now weigh in that weakness, agree it could have been given as a foul on him yesterday but he really doesn’t help himself by not being the bully instead of the opposite.
Another ETH blunder.

Big saves in the first half to keep us in the game.

He made some very good saves first half but I’m not convinced about his overall game, he’s like Dracula he hates crosses.

The double save in first half was phenomenal.

Clearly I'm not a fan but wow.

Good saves last night but does not command his area. One instance last night where I think De Ligt headed a clearance straight up and it was in the air a long time and all that was needed was for Onana to come forward, set himself, and claim it. De Ligt had to make another clearance but he was fully expecting his keeper to gather the ball.

Looked to me like De Ligt called it as Onana did step forward then go back.

Doesn't command his area.
Palms shots back into the danger area
Can't jump
Can't dive
Can't punch
Lacks Agility
Lacks reflexes
Only seems to stop shots that are directly at him

Need I go on?
I just don't rate him, the defence don't look like they have confidence in him.
I honestly think if Bayinder had been in goal against Saints he stops that deflection and catches it.

Yeah, most of that’s nonsense. He’s proved time and time again it’s not true. He’s had a few iffy moments this season but he’s a contender for player of the season.

Not in my book.
He's let balls past him this season other keepers would stop, or at least make a better attempt to stop, the number of times he just stands there and watches the ball go past him.

Cough!
Should never pull the shirt on again
Awful goalkeeping for Brighton’s third goal.
And the second
Jim Leightons career was ruined because of one bad game, this clown has had too many chances.

If our number 2 was any good they’d change it.

Reality is he’s not anywhere near good enough.

Reality is both of our keepers are probably not good enough on the whole.

Onana cannot keep dropping these clangers on a regular basis. He has one good performance but then produces stuff like today. Absolutely no consistency.

For the second goal, I think Mazraoui tries to shield Mitoma expecting Onana to claim it.

He's good enough for cup games

Yeah because to get anyone to be your number 2 these days you have to give them cup games.

Was surprised Arsenal started Raya last weekend most other sides changed their keeper.

I haven’t seen the Onana gaff from today but it sounds bad.

Issue is unless we find someone cheap it’s another headache as won’t be easy to shift Onana.

He made one absolute shocker of a gaff today, many will say the second goal is on him too.
When we signed this guy, (I'd never heard of him) I watched his games, I watched him last season, I said and I'll say now, this bloke will cost us points, he's not a goalkeeper, he doesn't look like one, he doesn't act like one, he's more akin to WWE wrestler.

We all seem to have forgotten about the second disallowed goal, he starts to come, then sits down, effing useless

A while back I wanted Bayinder to take over in goal. Truthfully I'm now not so sure, however I would be willing to take a chance on him. Most keepers make a mistake from time to time but onana is a disgrace. He slows the play down and more importantly his lapses invariably lead to a goal. I really feel he's a liability that comes up with good saves now and again but that's what he's there for, not to be a world cup Willie with his playing about in the penalty area

He is certainly providing a lot of sports entertainment.

I hadn’t seen much of him but he’d been excellent at that inter side that got to the European cup final.

Every keeper makes mistakes it’s how you react to them that matters. Sadly he reacts poorly when he makes 1 he quickly follows it with a 2nd.

I’d probably stop buying players from Serie A if I was Utd doesn’t seem to go well for us

There comes a time when enough is enough, Ok, Bayinder is not perfect, but you have to ask "Is he worth the risk", was the game he played against Arsenal a fluke, there is only one way to find out, give him a run in the league, it may be a confidence boost for the whole team not to see Jigsaw between the sticks.
