Andre Onana | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

Unsure why it isn’t a 10/10. What did he do that took marks off?

For me his best performance in a United shirt.
You have to put in a special performance to be 10/10. He didn’t have a lot to do so a solid 8 is fair for me.

I don’t think any of his saves were mind blowing.

It was a solid game been a few like this through the season to balance out some of the shockers.

No, the first half save he made was extremely good and it took a deflection too.

Yeah get what you mean. Just wanted to highlight he couldn’t have done any better on the day than he did.

There was a save first half down to his left that was very good though.

It will take more than one good performance to win me over, he made a good reaction save early on but didn't have a great deal to do.

At least he wasn't playing statues and showed he can move when he wants, no Im not a fan.

Wasn’t fully focused on the game but he was the best player from the bits I saw.

2-3 very good saves/blocks.

Not for me. Villa created far too many opportunities for a defender to be considered man of the match. Not necessarily the defence’s fault, but still.

In the unlikely event he was talking sense I don't know why any United fan would listen to a word that thug would say, period.
Because he might be a thug but he is telling the truth. As a United fan I also listen to what other people say and if it is true then accept it.

Not sure what was solid about that game. Absolute howler yet again.

He’s the most error prone keeper we’ve had since Barthez.

Shouldn’t get a second season but unfortunately will have to.

I just said the same thing to a friend. In know that DeGea has his faults but if he was playing in goal we would easily be in the 4th position at least now.

Not sure about that. Onana’s Premier League stats are quite good, however his performances in the champions league cost progression to the next round or Europa League.

Like others you seem to forget how much De Gea regressed in his last year or two with us. Still a good shot stopper but made so many mistakes in the league - more than Onana is making right now.

I totally admit that Onana has his faults and he has been at fault for goals this season - a lot in the CL but less so in the league. I’m not buying we would be in 4th with De Gea in goal though.

Luke Shaw goes to sleep for the umpteenth time, yeah let's blame the keeper ....

Some people have just decided this guy is cr*p and can't take each incident on it's merits.

That one yesterday he's rushed a striker who's got a free header 6 yards out because of a wicked deflection and the guy slots it past him.

I mean trying to blame that on the keeper is bonkers, Morris has enough time to pick his spot the keeper has no chance.

I'd probably look at yesterday being the 8th time this season that a team has managed 20+ shots against Utd, that is embarrassing and has nothing to do with the keeper.

I only say the second half and to me he looked absolutely fine.

There are some massive flaws in his game that have resulted in some horrific mistakes and there's certainly a decision to be made in the summer over progressing with him but we've paid so much money we probably have to persist with him for at least 1 more season.

Onana was at fault for the equaliser though, not sure what he was thinking ....

The one thing I would say about Onana (and I caveat this with I haven’t watched a ton of United in the last couple of months) is he doesn’t seem to quite be the same influence with the ball at his feet? Maybe I’ve watched bad games for that but he doesn’t seem to sit as high when United have the ball.

I'm still on the fence with Onana, makes some good saves, good with his short passing, long passig has improved. Some saves just seem to hit him. I do think his positioning could be better.

But he faces far too many shots for a keeper in a side who wants to win things. One game recently it was incredible, he won us the points.
