Amad Diallo | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

I like Henry as a pundit when he talks about strikers.

He was so good as a player but there’s little things he can point out that most wouldn’t see.
 
Struggling to remember anyone being consistently negative about him.

Had a look through his match thread for last season and the loan at Sunderland and it’s pretty much all good stuff.
 
I just read back, and loads were championing him.

But we did chat about this on another thread, JC champions all the young ones, bound to get one right

For every Amad there's several pellistri's and Hannibal's :D

Also pretty sure you were both pro ETH so it's cancelled out :p

I'm pro every manager. With Amorim I'll give him 4 years. But we've definitely taken a step back since he's joined.

Where as the blinkered nonsense on here is ridiculous.

Imagine how much you'd have slated that performance 2 months ago. The Gaurdian called it 'A United side that forgot they're allowed to win until Amad showed up.'

But he's i don't believe we can judge Amorim for seasons. I do believe we should be honest in what we witness.

It irritates me you can't. Only because I expect better.

Stats prove me correct. But hey ho. You enjoyed the shit performance because of the man on the touchline. Fair enough.

Nothing we've seen so far suggest getting rid of ETH was right. We've been absolutely bang average at best bar one game vs Everton.

And still nothing worse than a fan that turns on the side. Forgets they're there to support the team.

Come on, this attitude is wearing a little thin. It’s not as black and white as you are right and everyone else was wrong.

I think there has been improvement under Amorim, I think we are actually better at controlling a game now. Our defence and midfield doesn’t look as comfortable to get through. It’s obviously not perfect by any stretch but most can acknowledge an improvement of sorts.

I'm amazed people can't see that. Of course it takes time to get new group to play a new system.

Incredible people still talking about ETH who took us to our worst prem finish, and left us in 14th in his 3rd season after 11 games, 3 wins, no wins in Europe with squad full of his players he emptied the bank on. How can you back that.

ETH is one of the worst things to happen to the club in its recent history.

Of course it's a joy to see something new and a team actually playing as a team and trying a new system. Hojlund looks a new player, Amad playing his best football, hell even Zirkzee has improved...a little. De Ligt looks better, Maz is playing brilliantly. Even Bruno is thinking more and not being so wasteful. It's much better now.

ETH played 9 won 3 scored 8
Amorim played 5 won 2 scored 8 + two wins in Europe. In those 5 games are Arsenal and City who are way ahead of us.

I don't get all this negativity

It's a completely ludricrous argument to make. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can know if a player is Premier League calibre this quickly. The league is just so mentally/physically taxing that if you don't have both of those it doesn't matter how skilled you may be. If anything I would have said Amad would be way more likely to fail and breakdown a lot of the time; he's such a small player... The point is the odds were more so against him than for, hence it being a bit premature.

Take a look at Mainoo, he's initially burst on the scene and had the world be all over him. What was next? His body gave up on him and his form went out the window, now looking like a lost sheep in Amorim's team. It's no coincidence. It's the mental fortitude that is most valuable in our league..... Long story short - your prediction on Amad is far from a banker. I do happen to think he's got three key abilities that will make him world-class; agility, dribbling and low centre of gravity. If he adds to them and his body isn't made of glass we might actually have a pretty scary IF/Winger in a few years.

Anyways, this is what it's all about, eh? Finding stuff to support, players to love and keep interest high.

I'm happy you're fully invested in our youth and are predicting great things for them - let's hope you're right because we'll actually both benefit...believe it or not we are on the same side here....
 
Some of our players (including I want a new challenge Marcus) could learn a few things from watching Amad’s constant pressing. It’s led to mistakes which in turn lead to goals.

Without him our attack would be non-existent.

Of course this was going to happen, the speculation about him being sold was complete crap. Not even worth a second of my time to comment on it. He's the future of our team, he has to be.
 
Glad he’s being tied down, now he’s getting a run in the team he’s only going to get better and better.
 
Think we have to accept that at some point he will have a dip in form.

Senior players need to start carrying the load at this club and take the pressure off these kids.
 
Persistence paid off.

He makes things happen. Walker-Peters for 80 minutes matched him but he kept plugging away at him and got his reward.

What a way to celebrate your new deal.

He seems like he’s got the right head on his shoulders as well to go with his obvious talent. A supreme talent we have on our hands, glad we locked him down to a new deal!

One of the few players that currently relishes and thrives on playing at Old Trafford.
 
Amorim telling him to enjoy these moments is great management. All the best players enjoy themselves when playing, even at the highest level.

For a long time we've played like a team suffering from depression. It's time to bring the fun back.

I just remember the days when we were good... Rio and Anderson always having a laugh, probably over how much he's spent at Dominos. The spirit these days seems the opposite. We've just lost our way completely. Amorim is going to bring that back.

Injured his ankle in training and could be out for the season.
