I wish I knew what that was. The way we play that is. Maybe he's confused by it as well. We definitely look a clueless lot out there sometimes but hopefully we're turning a corner and will hopefully string together the results we need over the next few games

I don't think that Sanchez has played in a 3-4-3 for 12 months but I do believe he hasn't played as a LW for them since maybe the start of last season. He has layer as a CF for quite some time and is probably another reason we didn't actually need him. He's here now and needs to prove his worth, but I agree throwing him down the right now with Martial on the left would be better for us. Especially as Martial likes to play Liverpool.

From what I can remember, Sanchez started as a striker in 2016/17 but then switched to left wing midway through the season when Giroud (?) returned from injury.

Data from transfermarkt:

2017/18
Left Wing 11
Attacking Midfield 10
Centre-Forward 4
Secondary Striker 3
Right Wing 1

2016/17
Centre-Forward 25
Left Wing 17
Attacking Midfield 7
Right Wing 1
Secondary Striker

2015/16
Left Wing 28
Right Wing 9
Centre-Forward 2
Secondary Striker 1

Jury still out with Sanchez for me. Granted he literally worked his socks off and tracked back a lot and got in their way the way quite a bit but going forward he offered nothing again. He doesn't seem to be clicking in that attack much. And the amount he gives the ball away is absolutely shocking.

Is he trying too hard?

Think he had a different role vs Liverpool we obviously wanted him to stick close to Lukaku and look for second balls in the first half but also to disrupte Can as much as possible to stop him starting moves.

I think he did a lot of graft for the team on Saturday but he didn't really give us much quality in the final 1/3 which is what we want from him although if Mata scores that overhead kick we probably sit here saying what a fantastic assist because he's the one guy in the team who can play that ball.

I think it's very hard for attacking players in the Mourinho system because you don't see a lot of the ball close to the opposition goal but Sanchez does need to be better, he gives the ball away way to much. Still feels like he's learning how to play with his team mates the good news is him and Lukaku seem to be getting an understanding going.

I thought he was good Saturday. His hussling was important for us worked very hard defensively and should have got an assist. The space he found matter in was unbelievable. Indeed a great run from Mata. I think Mata is becoming a very important part of this side. I think Martial could struggle to get his place back as our last 135 minutes have been what Mourinho will want. Palace we showed a desire to fight back and against Liverpool. Lukaku done what he needed Rashford put the ball away twice Sanchez hussled like Mourinho wants and Mata glued the team together nicely finding space drifting over to the left and really helping overload Alexander.

The guy certainly puts himself around the pitch. People who were there and have also watched him in other games at OT say he runs around needlessly sometimes, almost putting too much effort in. Beat's not putting enough effort in though.

Champions League: Manchester United 1-2 Sevilla - 13th March 2018

From what I've seen so far; he's lost a yard of pace and is a little lightweight. That's not me writing him off!

He does look a little off the pace right now. Also from the games I’ve seen of him he just looks to be trying too hard which is impacting his play. Maybe he hasn’t quite settled yet or something but I still have faith he’ll come good, he hasn’t become a bad player over night. He better to start showing something soon though or the knives will be out for sure!

He may not have come a bad player over night, but this season even at Arsenal he's not been great. We've been had on this transfer.

I still want to know why he was so desperate to get out of Arsenal? By the way things went with his transfer any team decent team could have offered him £600,000 a week and he'd have gone. I thought he desperately wanted to play for Pep?

Then he comes to Utd and plays 10 games and looks like a Championship player. Admittedly Utd are not an attacking team like Arsenal so why would he come and play for us? Something is seriously wrong here.

Apparently he was hated at Arsenal, routinely ran the least amount of all players unless on Tele. Only put effort in when he could stand out.

Believe me he was not hated at Arsenal I’m friends with numerous season ticket holders. I’ve been to the Emirates more than any other stadium. Sanchez was loved until the middle of this season when some started turning on him as they realised he wasn’t going to sign a new contract.

there might be an issue that he actually wanted to go to city, who knows. Sounds like, on the radio, he's putting the effort in though.

Hated by the players, not the fans. Was listening to football weekly it must have been and a Journo on there mentioned it. Was this week's round-up show.

I can't see he'd be hated at Arsenal, they were trying to get him to stay and sign a new contract. I can see the fans lose patience with him eventually when they realised he wanted a move but he'd already decided he was going before they turned on him. It was probably the worst case I have seen of a player wanting a move away, right up there with Payet from West Ham to Marseille.

Only time will tell with Sanchez. I have a feeling he is playing for the wrong manager.

Oh it’s been well publicised that he didn’t get along with many of the players but not for a lack of trying.

Bellerin on Sanchez

‘Alexis is an amazing player,’ Bellerin told the Oxford Union.

‘One of the best in the Premier League for sure but he is a player who always wants to win.

‘He demands from everyone, sometimes it can be too much.

They felt he was overbearing and his desire to win meant he expected more from his team mates and demanded more than they were willing to give. The opposite to not trying

You guys are going to make me go back and listen to the pod again and pull out the quote. Won't be until Lunch as I don't have my headphones just now. I was surprised by what the fella said but thought of how we all see him 'trying' but not 'doing'.

It was Raphael Honnigstien on the totally football show who made the claim which I think was widely reported his relationship with the rest of the team was always a bit distant but it became even worse this season when his move to City fell through as they knew he didn't want to be there.

Back to Utd with Martial fit again do we have to consider dropping Sanchez?

Are these losing possession stats even real keep seeing he's giving the ball away 40+ times a game but they're all posts by Arsenal fans or banter accounts so never know if they're actually true, I can't remember him touching the ball 40 times last night.

I think that front 3 we had vs Liverpool behind Lukaku showed signs of working then the manager decides to rip it up drops Mata for Lingard and moves the other two around. I really dont understand what he was doing there.

I know this guy is only human and ok, he's had to move house, meet some new team mates, play a new system etc but he is on somewhere in the region of £350,000 to £600,000 a WEEK!!! It's a joke he can't fit in and play at least to some way towards decent. That's what top players do isn't it?

In an ideal world all players should have performance related contracts now. You can have your £600,000 if your playing well, you can shove it up your ass if you don't. We'd soon see a rise in performance levels lol.

In all seriousness, I think we all expected more from Sanchez regardless of what is going on in his life. He needs to kick on very soon and we've gotta hope he's not a Di Maria/Depay/Schneiderlin

I think you need to give players a chance to settle into the new club. Which is why generally Jan buys don't work out until the following season

Oh I see, I've always wondered why many clubs don't use the Jan window! You learn something every day.

What a person earns is totally irrelavant so lets forget that.

From what you read he didn't really have any friends at Arsenal anyway but he's going to a new club, with a different culture, a different playing style and in the space of a week he's had to move his entire life from London to Manchester so all those places he used to go outside of football are gone.

That's the easy thing to forget footballers do earn a lot of money but they also have a lot of time on their hands so when you move to a new city it takes to find the things you can do outside of football you can't just go home and sit in the house.

He says he's dissapointed with the way he's played so far and he's had a few different roles to play he's definitely having to do more defensive work than he ever had to do at Arsenal when playing wide but I'm sure he will adjust to that over time. Been a busy few months as well so I imagine the time on the training pitch as been limited so I doubt he's had much one to one coaching on patterns of play and stuff like that as most of that is done in pre season sessions.

As Mr C said this is why clubs try to avoid buying in January, I think in normal circumstances Utd would have waited to the summer to make a signing like this for those reasons but it was a moment in time where we could get him so we took it.

Don’t know why people are getting on his back so much. I mean we have given shittier players at least a season to settle before demanding good performances from him. Depay comes to my mind. A full preseason will help in getting him settled as well as on the same wavelength as his teammates.

@bludsucker people are on his back because he is a world class player, used to the EPL and lived in the UK for the last 4 years. He's not some kid from Holland who is living in the UK for the first time and playing in a new league. Fans have an expectation level and he hasn't hit that level, nowhere near it, and he knows that too, and he has said so much himself in the press.

He has probably put too much pressure on himself, trying too hard to perform and impress. Hopefully, like you say, he will settle and after a good pre season will come back like the player we know he can be.

Be that as it may it still is a move to a new team which employs a different tactical system. I mean if you were to change job to a different company would it be realistic to expect you to be beating sales/performance targets from the first day onwards?

Nobody is asking or expecting him to beat any targets, none have ever been set but I'm sure I speak for 90% of Utd supporters when I say I expected more from him.
And if I changed jobs, yes, there would be a quality level expected when I started, same as Utd expect with Sanchez. If I performed as bad as he has in the first 10 weeks i would be looking at a rocket from the boss for sure!

A goal and an assist in the first half so far. Also great tracking back from him. Winning back balls for us. Hope he gets a couple more.

Premier League: Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United - 7th April 2018

Heavily involved in all three of United's goals.

How good was he the second half yesterday.

It’s like him and Pogba said to eachother ‘screw this shall we remember we are world class footballers and sort this out’

When them two turn up we can beat anyone.

FA Cup Semi-Final: Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur - 21st April 2018

So our two biggest games of the season and he’s shown what he’s got about him.

His tracking back was absolutely amazing today. He’s a proper Mourinho player and will be great when he settles properly
