Alejandro Garnacho | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

I like him a lot.

But today he reverted to his early season form of wasteful decisions and stupid shots.

Probably helps the goal xg though

He definitely shouldn’t be carrying the team at his age but I do think his performance level can be a lot better for the talent he possesses.

The whole recruitment process has been embarrassing for years but looks like we have a good team in place in now above the manager who have the right credentials. Hopefully we can finally start to build a foundation of recruitment that avoids the past mistakes.

I think you have to accept highs and lows with youngsters through the first few years especially when they break in at his age.

I’m yet to be sold on the execs knowing what they are doing.

I liked the summer signings and the fact they did deals to sell deadwood but you need to see them do that again and again. This squad has been left horribly short and will need to be miles better equipped next season.

I thought he was unlucky to be hooked.

Think we needed his ball carrying second half to get up the pitch

Seems like another one with a petulant attitude though. Sure you can be disappointed to be subbed off but just take it like a man.

It’s childish stuff that he needs to cut out.

Going down the tunnel isn’t the end of the world but keep it off social media.

We all think it was odd he got subbed.
But there is no excuse for non team spirit behaviour

My guess is he wanted the two more physical players on the pitch to try and hold on to the ball rather than Garnacho who takes a lot more risks in the way he plays. Personally I wanted him to stay on as we needed someone who could dribble the ball up the pitch to relieve pressure rather than just hoofing it and it almost always coming back. I'd have subbed Hojlund.

I think he was unlucky and totally get why he'd be upset but you need to be a grown up about it but I do think he's a guy who lets his emotions get the better of him but he's a kid that sort of maturity comes with age.

From his comments after the game it didn't sound like Amorim was to impressed by the behaviour.

What did he put on social media? All I saw was the image of him coming off with no photo. Then a picture of the team with 'An important 3 points' and the fist bump emoji. Was there another post before those?

No just the two posts you mentioned as far as I'm aware.

Posting the picture basically tells you he's got the hump about being subbed.

The picture tells the story he didn't need to put it up with a caption as people will jump on something like that it attracts headlines that he doesn't need and it isn't the first time his social media behaviour has got him in a bit of bother.

Yeah he knew that the photo told a million words. I think players just have to stay off social media, you’re either getting abused or posting stuff that could land you in strife.

I think he's suffering from a bit of burn out, also suffering from a lot of frustration with Hoijland, you can see it in his expressions some times

Get your wallet out Garnacho!

I can understand his frustration though, but he has to learn that he can't do stuff like this, it will be hounded.

On a more positive note - it shows that he cares, and that's what we want.

Mixed bag for the lad. An assist and could/should have scored. He desperately needs a goal. You feel he’s on the cusp of becoming a regular goal scorer.

Another who had their best performance for a while. He linked well with Mazraoui and work rate was good. I prefer him on the right, he isn’t as one dimensional.

Amorim has managed Garnacho really well, which contradicts the media rhetoric of him being a poor man-manager. Since he was dropped, Garnacho has shown he desired attitude, has obviously worked hard in training and with Amorim, and his subsequent performances have been excellent, being our biggest threat in games, especially with Amad's absence.

Like Hojlund maximum effort but minimal reward.

End product just isn’t quite there at the moment.

Got his assist but there was opportunity for much more.
