Alejandro Garnacho | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

I can see his general point, but I think he has made it badly*

Used to annoy the shit of me the few seasons Giggs wouldn't celebrate goals.

*This is news to me, I didn't know there was an issue

He was abused by some youtuber as he left the game and then again online on social media for poor performances. It's why I posted Brunos statement but I see now whoever I took it from don't allow you to see them on the forum.

"Garnacho scored a banger but didn't celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans. I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do.

"I told him to celebrate, it was something special. He is a special player, we have difference makers. They are the ones who win us games. We want them to score every game but that isn't going to happen."

It's why I said people need to realise there online abuse of the players and managers do have an impact especially on their the younger ones and it does cause a negative effect on the pitch. He's in the game just scored a wonderful goal and the thing on his mind is the online abuse he receives. It does need to be toned down by people and it is too much.

We can easily forget the managers and players are human and go further than we ever would if we were in person with them.

AH OK

yeah that link was broken. I assume this was the game before? that he got abuse in?

He's got to rise above that. There are nobs everywhere

I know I'm not a fan of Zirkzee and wasn't of ETH. But thats on this forum where I chat like I would with friends. I would never say anything to them at a match. I'm not on social media becasue it's a cess pit. At the end of the day, most of the time, everyone is trying their best.

He might need a bit of a talking to by the media dept or something. Needs to block that crap out.

And also, not sure that should stop him for celebrating, I wouldn't able to help myself :D

Just like Keane, I don't think you're getting it.

The abuse affected him so much, he didn't celebrate. Nobody who is normal celebrates when they feel down. It's that simple.

I think for Keane’s generation it was much easier to switch off the criticism and tune it out. Don’t pick up the papers and you’ll miss it.

I can see why he’d get annoyed about Garnacho allowing it to affect him. To play for Utd you need a very thick skin and can’t really let the criticism get to you.

A player like Garnacho has grown up in the social media era so staying off it is difficult. So they see all this stuff and it must knock them.

Bruno maybe should have kept it all behind closed doors not sure why he felt the need to talk about it after the game.

Was very clearly frustrated at the lack of support and the rubbish from the online fans during the end of the ETH era and had, had enough of what its done to the players and the fans destroying their confidence.

It was a clear attack at the online fan base for letting the players down and a reminder it's a two way street.

I get that but he didn't need to out Garnacho, he can call out that stuff if he wants but he didn't need to use Garnacho as the reason and drag him into this. If Bruno isn't happy with certain sections of the fanbase he needs to call them out with his name behind it.

There is clearly some tension in that dressing room about the way some of the high profile social media fan channels are attacking our players but the players have to just ignore that cr*p. It isn't helped by the club giving some of these fan channels access to the club.

The only way you'll change the attitude of the fans towards the players is on the pitch you do what Garnacho did which is prove them wrong on the pitch. I'd have quite happily have seen Garnacho lift his shirt with a message to the guy who posted the video.

they only have themselves to blame really.

They are paid shit loads of money and have performed really badly.

Fans expect more of Man Utd than 14th, few wins and poor performances.

They way they change it, is on the pitch.

I think online fans piling on a 20 year old kid on social media who's struggling for a bit of consistency isn't really on.

The social media post that sparked this was someone who filmed himself giving Garnacho some "advice" before the PAOK game while he signed things for the fans. He then posted that video all over social media for the likes and it became a bit of an online thing.

Likely a stronger dressing room would have got round him straight away and told him to ignore these people and they'd have certainly kept it in house.

Couldn't disagree more. Firstly the fans paying loads of money to watch in the stadium aren't the ones giving abuse. Secondly because you spend some money and someone is paid a lot doesn't give you a right to abuse them.

However it's not a point of if you have the right to it's a point of our fans needing to accept their behaviour and constant negativity online does have an effect on our performances and where we find ourselves. I've tried to explain it for years but some don't get there are consequence to the whinging and that the players aren't robots.

I'm not talking about the online abuse, I know nothing about that. I don't have it.

But if you're a man utd player at the moment, it's not good enough. Standards have to be higher. Thats what I'm saying.

14th, few goals, saying the other team wanted it more. It's not good enough for Manchester United

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that standards have to be higher but targeting the young players isn't really right it's the senior players who are massively letting the club down at the moment.

They should be the one setting those standards and making sure the younger players meet them.

Also, you need to check the table we're up to 13th now :p

A big problem for the players now is these social media accounts have huge followings so they can really push a narrative about certain players. Rashford has had some big problems with the most high profile one which created an issue as the club allowed Hojlund to produce some content for them. It sounds like since that the players have all made sure they stay away from the fan channels.

soz, we/I are talkng two dfferent things.

Weren't we 14th at the time?

I can't comment on bellends on Twitter, I'm not on it, I'm not interested. The thing should be shut. From what I can tell it's a cess pit for everyone, not just footballers to get abuse.

The players have not been good enough and questions should be aked of them. Personally I wouldn't pick Garners out, he's been off form but his effort has been 100%
i find it odd he didn't celebrate, but more odd I didn't even notice that :D

It's not just twitter it's all social media and it's not just the fan channels. It's every post the players and the club put up.

Can't really say you aren't interested, what's the discussion you're having even about it you aren't interested and it's having a negative effect on the team and I gaurantee many who come in here with such strong opinions and hatred are the same as going on those sites posting the drivel.

Ok, the only man utd stuff I see is on here, and I doubt the players come on here, but if they do, please can I have some merch?

I don't comment on anything on line, I wouldn't know where to look to even attempt to do that. This is the only forum I am a member of, on any subject

I get the point, it must be having an effect if he didn't celebrate, but my advice would be, why are you worried what idiots like that think. The only opinions that matter are those from people you respect.

Some people, even some on here :p, I don't even consider a word they say, why would you take advice from a fool

Once he tightens up his finishing I think he’ll score a bucket load. He gets so many chances in games but at the moment he is a little wasteful. Scores some absolute crackers but definitely lacks consistency right now.

Yep his finishing has been poor this season he needs to address that.
