Alejandro Garnacho | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

He's too greedy

but that chance yesterday was not a sitter, and the keeper took up a good position

I'll have to rewatch, but my question is, why was he on his own, why wasnt Hojlund ready for a square ball?

He had 2 great chances and missed the target twice.

What everyone else was doing doesn’t matter.

If the keeper makes a great save fair enough but you have to hit the target.

I keep hearing this, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter we create nothing for Hojlund if we create chances.

Of course it matters, what the hell goes on in training, you want your chances to fall to the guy paid to put the ball in the net, not Dalot.

Liverpool yesterday, Salah is up with play, gets an easy goal.

Not sure what you are trying to get at.

He’s one on one twice and misses the target twice.

Garnacho is in the team to score goals it’s a front 3 not a front 1.

Creating chances for Hojlund is a different issue that they clearly haven’t addressed.

yes, I am bringing things mentioned in two different threads into one place here :)

Inconsistency in young players is hopefully a short term pain for long term gain. The development of the likes of Garnacho and Hojlund will hopefully benefit the next permanent manager.

Whoever comes in as manager they do have a lot to work with in our young players and also the young guys coming up from the academy.

Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund and Yoro all have very high ceilings of where they can go.

this isn't a top 4 side.

But it's not a 14 side either.

This squad has the strength to fight for that last CL spot.

The longer they leave it, the more difficult it will be to get back up there this season

Why do other teams play as a team while we do not? They can play the whole match while we play as individuals. I think this started during Ole's time and has not been addressed. Rashford is the chief culprit.

Another who was frustrating. His decision making and wastefulness is infuriating at times. The struggles of a young and learnin’ footballer.

He can be forgiven on the whole due to age, but he still needs taught the lessons of performing like that. I'd drop him next game.

Should not be a nailed on starter at this stage of his career.

We are way to reliant on him because signings like Sancho/Antony failed to deliver and Rashford blows so hot and cold.

Hot and cold? Mostly cold now and his body language and his tracking back and his passing was bad today. Garnacho needs to be dropped for a game but so does Rashford and that is a huge problem for Ruud. Put Bruno on the right and play Eriksen?

Might see something a bit different with Amorim and the 3-4-3 with number 10s rather than dribblers wide of the striker.

Always felt when we play both Rashford and Garnacho it makes us to direct.

Just very short on option in the wide spots with the injuries.

I don’t see the value in moving Bruno from his current position in the 4-2-3-1 you either play him as the 10 or don’t play him.

Surprised at the criticism of him. He's 19 and been by far our best player this season.

Even the best can be criticised if they make mistakes.

Garnacho indeed has promise, but he often gets it wrong. Learning how to not do that will make him the player we hope he can be.

It's all about balance; indulge, educate or destroy.

Oh fully agree his decision making is the worst part of his game. But think he's been good this season. Would be one of the furthest players from the drop list I could think of.

Him and Onana should be the only two that are assured of their spots at the moment. (Along with Hojlund but because of no competition)

The decision making will come with time.

His output has been good but his general play and decision making has been inconsistent.

Onana has been United’s best player this season.

I guess my point is if we had a proper squad he wouldn't need to be dropped because he wouldn't be starting because at that age he shouldn't be starting every single week.

It's going to take a couple of seasons for him to fully grasp the game but there needs to be more from others to take the pressure off the younger players.

for some reason his decision making has gone downward massively, he's taking shots on that are impossible.

I understand it when Zirkzee is on though, zero point passing that clown the ball

He's always been a greedy player even last season it's a difficult thing you don't want to totally take that part of his game away but the front line has got to start working together they can't just all be individuals playing off the cuff.

This is where a good coach is going to tell him to buckle down and play as a team player. Dropping him for Amad might be a good option but Rashford is worse than him and Antony is the less said the better. Actually if Shaw as fit, we could have occasionally play Dalot as a right winger.

What happens if you take league cup games out of it?

Not trying to diss Garnacho but you can be quite clever with stats without telling the true story.

My point with this kid is we should not be so reliant on him. It’s going to be up and down and if the senior lads don’t take the pressure off him he will crumble.

The treatment he’s had from some fan channel tits though was ridiculous and Bruno revealing he didn’t want to celebrate tells a story

This is probably the worst run of form he's had, but still popping up with odd goal

I like that he doesn’t hide, he keeps taking the ball and trying, that takes guts

Yeah glad he stuck it to Youtuber Faz with that goal

And people don't think the fans online abuse destroys the players and managers confidence?

Amorim will be salivating at the prospect of working on Garners theres a lot more to come yet.

Keane has took that too far.

Garnacho is still a young man who's not only learning his football, but also life in general. He'll mature and understand criticism is always going to be a thing at United. We're the most scrutinised team in the world.

The older players in the team need to make him aware of this, and he'll be fine.
