Alejandro Garnacho | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

It is his 3rd season as a first team footballer a club like Utd should not be expecting him to be carrying that burden.

I think he’s an incredible talent and he puts an absolute shift in for the team but he needs looking after in the same way all these young players do.

Yes they need to stand up and deliver but they can’t be covering up for the others who can and should do more.

It’s no different.

Before Zirkzee arrived I said we should sign a cheap senior striker to help Hojlund but now they’ve gone for Zirkzee there’s no room in the squad for that player.

There’s a lot of youth in that attack which is great but the players in their prime years like Mount, Rashford and Bruno have to be the ones who lead that front line and set the standards for the kids to follow.
 
Poor today struggle to remember a single thing he did, Robertson had him in his pocket.
 
For some odd reason our wingers always try to beat two men or at least one man. I remember an interview with Gullit when he played on the left for Netherlands saying that you do not have to beat your man to put in a cross or a pass.

It is time one of our coaches take these players aside and get them to stop doing crazy stuff and teach them to play for the team.
 
I think they do not want to pass unless there is no choice. This seems to be the main issue and then players do not know what space to move into and what time.
 
Another good cameo today and a super finish.

He always influences games and can really see his goalscoring output being a lot higher this season.
 
Looks like he’s getting up to speed after a short pre season.

That’s 3 of the 4 wide players off the mark in the first couple of games.

Hopefully that puts pressure on them to perform as they can’t be sure of their starting spot.

The right wing is a real headache now. That's a good problem to have though. Antony is done.
 
I think on performances so far the right wing looks better with Amad he gives us something different to Garnacho and Rashford who are more direct.

Good to have players putting pressure on each other for those spots.

Yeah, Amad is growing on me a lot, but we can't leave out Garnacho! He's not going to be happy sitting on the bench and is the more productive, I think.

Of course but you need lads who are strong off the bench as well.

Garnacho can play off the left as well so there’s also pressure on Rashford on that side.

I think there will be spells where they start and spells where they make impacts off the bench.

It’s just important that as a starter or a sub they can make an impact.

if you want the starting spot you need to score every game lol

We need to hope they're both players with that fighting mentality, then it'll be the perfect storm.

I would have hoped the poor decision making and poor control etc would have started to be ironed out of his game by now.

Really love him as a player and think he is definitely a future star but he needs to tighten up in many facets of his game. I don’t think he’s technically fantastic right now but with time I think he can be.
 
His output is fairly decent given the lack of goals scored by the team but his general play has been pretty poor. He was awful today. Disappointing really as I expected him to kick on and dominate matches. That still could happen this season but he’s been indifferent thus far.

Shooting too often for me at the mo, when there are better options. But still our best chance of a goal
 
Frustrating night for him.

Think he was looking to be the hero at the end rather than look for his team mates.
 
I have noticed in the recent games he is shooting all the time, when other options are open.

I wonder if this because there has been talk that him Rashford and Bruno are our best chance of goals.

I guess if Zirkzee is in front of you, you may as well shoot, even if you're facing the wrong goal :D
 
I think that’s just his game needs to get his head up a little more.

Works his socks off.

Very worrying that we are so reliant on such a young player who’s still learning the ropes
 
He was terrible today. He is not as good as we think he is and the main reason why I say that is his first touch is average. Probably the same for most of our players.
 
I would say he’s still very much in the rough diamond category. Got lots and lots to like but some not to at the moment. He seems to overrun the ball a lot and his mind gets scrambled a little on what to do.

I think he’ll get there though. When you’ve got his work rate and effort and obvious talent, that next step won’t take long.
 
Off form at the minute. He had two great chances and missed the target both times, which is unusual for him.
 
A club like Utd shouldn’t be relying on a kid like him.

There’s going to be ups and down the more senior members of that attack should be contributing a lot more to take the pressure off this kid.

He’s another who looks like a few games off might do him some good

And then he's in the media moaning about not starting.

Garnacho is fine to play. He's young and hungry doesn't need a rest but does need to lift his head up more.

I think he'll go on to be an amazing player but he's lacking a little maturity at the moment.
 
I think it’s about consistency. Look at his finish against Brentford and then compare to yesterday. It’s a real trait amongst our players, you really don’t know what you’re going to get from week to week.
