Alejandro Garnacho | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

Decision making and execution was poor today. He looked a little leggy towards the end. Hopefully he can have an early rest against Fulham.
 
His decision making and finishing is a little ropey but still a young man and will continue to learn. He never shies away though even when he’s had a bad moment, he keeps going and going.

Yeah, agree. Can never fault his determination though. It's what'll make him great for us eventually.
 
Not a great game technically, but his fitness levels are off the scale, I get a stitch every time I watch him from the 75th minute onwards.
 
Decision making with young players is never going to be perfect but he kept going until the end.

Made a mess of the one vs one just didn't setup the finish he wanted and by the time he didn't get the touch right to go round him left himself needing a second touch to beat him. Think he then got tunnel vision and didn't see Bruno free he should have probably passed it to him to finish it rather than try to go alone.
 
Poor tonight.

Didn't get the better of his full back all night.

He’s much better on the right. Hojlund’s return can’t come soon enough.
 
Cant see why Garno cant be played on the right and Antony although he`ll probably be shit on the left, if a left footed players cant play on the left its tragic.
 
I think he can play either side he’s had great games on the left as well as the right.

Just wasn’t his night tonight but he stuck at it and that is what you want to see.

Presume you mean Garno? yes he can play either side but he shouldn't be making way for the one footed failure that cost £82 million.

Well it is the Garnacho thread :p

Anthony had an ok game on the right and he clearly feels he can only play on the right. I’m sure if others were fit he’d have been on the bench with Garnacho playing on the right.

Garnacho just had a bad game it happens especially with young players.

It’s a big strength for Garnacho that he can play both sides but tonight just wasn’t his night.

Antony didn't get past the fullback on the outside once all night, he never does, he`s crap.
Garno has been playing well on the right recently but was put out left to accommodate the one footed failure, its wrong and i`ll repeat he should be able to play on the left its not asking much and you never know he might even be able to get a cross in.
Isnt that part of a wingers make up??
 
Maybe it was the shirt/kit, but he looked like a lad that has suddenly started growing into his body tonight, he just looked bigger, that's natural at his age, not sure why fans don't take that into consideration, the lad has started 23 games on the bounce which is unheard of for somebody his age, at any level. There's going to be ups and downs.

We are fecking lucky to have him, try and enjoy him while he's here.

But we are talking about Garnacho.

He has played on the left numerous times and done well but last night he was poor. I'm not sure it needs to go much deeper than that. He's had a couple of poor games on the right as well. Garnacho should have also been albe to go outside and stick a cross in but I don't think he did that all night the full back had his number.

If you play Antony on the left your entire left side is completely gone because we're playing Amrabat at left back you'd become so heavily weighted to the right side that they'd just block that off.

I'm sure if Hojlund/Martial were fit then Antony wouldn't be in the team but both are out so he's having to move everyone around to try and get a team that works.

So we cant discuss other players in a Garnacho thread? you are talking nonsense the point Im making is that Garnacho was played on the left so that Antony could fit in and it failed miserably,
Garnacho had a better run on the right if you thats gone right over your head I give up, He tried taking the full back on last night instead of trying to get a cross in and because he doesnt keep the ball close enough to his feet he gets tackled easily and something he needs to work on. Stop trying to over complicate everything football is a simple game. Martial? dont make me laugh if he was fit it wouldent make any difference because he`s a lazy twat and would just trot around looking uninterested, and why mention Martial anyway this is a Garnacho thread..

Well it's worth trying to limit it to that player.

I fully get your point ideally you'd keep Garnacho on the right but Garnacho can play on either side whereas Antony only appears to be able to play one side. So that really only leaves the manager with one option.

You've got a guy who's very low on confidence if you have to put him in the team you probably want to put him in the position he's most comfortable in.

The point was if we had a fit centre forward he would play, Rashford would play on the left and Garnacho plays on the right. We don't so he's got to make the most of a sh*t situation.

I don't think moving Garnacho to the left is a problem he just had a poor game by his standards in terms of his end product.

I actually think he probably needs a rest he's being asked to play a lot of games at the moment due to the injuries up front.

The answer is dont play Antony just so he fits in somewhere, play someone like Amad from the start. EtH is playing Antony because he wanted him and is trying to force the situation, its not going to happen ever It was a huge mistake. Confidence wise I dont agree its more about his limited ability.
It seems my expectations for the club are much higher than yours so I`ll leave it there.

And is it ok to mention Mount? remember him? which is looking like another huge mistake, maybe best not go there..

And where does Amad play? On the right, which means putting Garnacho on the left.

I would hazard a guess that based on training he doesn't think Amad is ready to start a game like that.

Not really got anything to do with Garnacho or last night's game but yeah Mount is looking like another poor signing.

Well ideally Rashford on the left where he has to play or he goes into an even deeper sulk, Amad was a random suggestion and he’s two footed I meant anything but Antony, literally anything.

For me it was worth a go we've got such a small squad if that shot goes in the top corner rather than off the bar in the first few minutes maybe Antony gets a bit of confidence back. Had he started Amad equally I'm happy chance to have a look at him but think it's fair to say ETH currently doesn't trust either Antony or Amad if we had everyone fit both would be on the bench.

Confidence is huge with all players once you've lost it and don't really want the ball anymore it's a major problem.
 
could played Evans at CB, Lindelof as LB, Amrabat in front of him and Garnacho right.

There are loads of options he could have played.
 
He just had a bad day and if we have to depend on a teenager to get us out of trouble everyday then no point in this.
 
The kid needs a rest but because of the injuries ETH cannot really give him one.

It’s hard to judge anyone on today because it was backs against the wall for a lot of it but it was a quiet one for him.
 
No midweek game this week then it’s internationals. Not sure if he will be with the seniors or U21 for Argentina but he should get a bit of a break.

Think Utd only have 1 midweek game to the end of the season if they get through in the cup there will be another.

He needs a break regardless after something stupid like 23 games in a row. I don't believe it's a case of ETH can't rest him, it's a case of won't. Guess what is next? An injured Garnacho and the same people going on about injuries as an excuse. Antony has been fit and ready to go, you use him to rest Garnacho when a so called weaker opponent comes to OT. You just have to take them risks sometimes, and it can work out well because Antony would gain some playing time and hopefully lift his confidence too.

Bruno is going to be a casualty soon too in my opinion. Far too many games, and carrying injuries.... The man looks mentally done in some of these most recent matches. So when all of the wheels have fallen off - there will be one man to blame. You see it's all just poor management - everywhere you look.
 
His form has dropped off and the lad could do with a break, but it’s a difficult one for Ten Hag due to the lack of options for one reason or another.
 
Thought he did okay, didn't offer a lot going forward, but stuck to the game-plan, his fitness levels are off the scale .....
 
Can still struggle to sort his mind out when he gets into very good positions but he is so positive and a joy to watch.

I think once he sorts out his end product he’s going to be special. Two very good bits of quick play to win the two penalties today.

He should have had a third too as there is nothing in the rules that says a player sliding on his body can have his hands out spread and stopping the ball with his hand is not a foul.
