Really excited about what he can do this season. I still think he’s more of an impact sub right now but he will no doubt start a lot of games.

His pace will frighten many a right back as the season goes on!

I really want to see him get more minutes, probably our most exciting player

I hope to start, to bed Hojlund in, we see him with Rashford centre, bring Hojlund on with 20 mins

Still see him as an impact role in most games but I do think at home to some of the bottom half sides we could start him and see how he impacts the game against a fresh opponent.

Poor last night given his chance to shine and struggled gave the ball away far to often and didn't create anything in the game.

Maybe suffered a little as Shaw was playing a more inside role rather than over lapping but still a poor night and maybe a performance that will see him dropped and used as more of an impact sub again for a few weeks.

Still feels like that is his game at the moment.

Probably facing a ban from the FA over a social media post.

Used the gorilla emoji in a post about Onana which has now been deleted.

Onana has posted to say the context of the post wasn’t racial and he hasn’t taken any offence but I doubt the FA will see that they’ll just ban him.

If true that’s absolute nonsense.

If the guy he posted about wasn’t offended then why are we.

I’m sure he used to in a complimentary way. Saying he’s a beast.

Seen Onanas response. People being offended on his behalf.

I blame the player and the club. Surely Garnacho knows how the message could be interpreted, and the club clearly are not doing enough to highlight the pitfalls of posting on social media. Regardless of Onana not taking any offence (and he has tried to best diffuse this situation), Garnacho needs educating and will serve a ban.

Couldn’t disagree more. It’s a teammate congratulating a friend who took it well and liked it.

The issue is people wanting to take offence for others. It’s pathetic Onana was who it was aimed at he takes no offence people shouldn’t take offence on his behalf.

As he stated no one gets to decide what he should be offended by. It’s pathetic and a dangerous culture.

He should know better, there have been similar cases in the prem.

And wtf was he thinking, why would you use a monkey emoji?

I'm going to speculate a bit here but I reckon Garnacho isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Last season he posted a picture on his Instagram with his vape next to him as he watched the game, he deleted it shortly after and re-posted it.

He might not have offended Onana but it probably does break the rules around this sort of stuff.

It doesn't seem to have blown up into a massive story so he might survive with a warning and a bit of a telling off but it could easily have blown up into a bigger story.

Pretty ill advised to post what he posted but come on if Onana wasn’t offended and knew the real meaning behind it, then why is there so much outrage? He should have a little word about how things can look from the outside but a ban would be ludicrous.

oh yeah, no doubt it was completely innocent, and he seems a bit daft. But that is no defence unfortunately.

No need to make a big deal of it, do your ban, learn, move on.

Cavani got a 3 game ban for using the word "negrito" on his social media even though in the context it was not deemed to be intentionally racist.

This is where the rules are a bit odd because even if the recipient doesn't take offence because you've posted it on social media it's judged as would anyone take offence to it.

3 games is the minimum ban should they decide this meets the threshold.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a 3 game ban.

Ten Hag has said they've been in contact with the FA which to me sounds like they'll be charging him which probably means a 3 game ban.

I'm sorry but there are emojis readily available that represent power and strength, for example, the bicep one and the fist. Players must learn the need to think about what they are posting on social media.

I'm glad Onana was not offended, but somebody else who may have previously been subjected to racist abuse with monkey chants would have been highly offended upon seeing that post.

Bernardo Silva only got a 1 game ban

Getting offended on behalf of someone else is a weird idea for me. If Onana had an issue with it then 100% there’s an issue. But others getting offended on behalf of Onana when he isn’t.

Madness.

Also context is key. You can tell it isn’t racism and it’s a celebration post.

I'm not getting offended on Onana's behalf, i'm calling out what I think was an ill-judged post from Garnacho. There are only 2 gorilla emojis in the post, and this neither indicates or disproves any racist intent. Btw, I don't think he meant it with any racist intent, and we are all aware of cultural differences in South America.

Oh, and I do wonder how often gorilla emojis are used in celebration posts? I suspect seldomly.

The wider reason is a social media post is a post for everyone to see it is not a private message.

This is why Onana’s response is unlikely to get him off the hook.

Players are given plenty of training about how they need to behave on social media and I think Garnacho has needlessly got himself in trouble.

Sadly we live in a world where that emoji is used in a racist way online to target black players and players should know better than to use it.

Thought he had a good game today and especially in the second half. He always carried a threat and is never shy in going again when he is thwarted before.

I think he struggled Castagne had him in his pocket.

Couple of driving runs that came to nothing but created very little for himself or others.

Given how much we’ve spent we shouldn’t be relying on kids.

He played well enough, especially in the last 20 minutes. One of his better performances as a starter. The performance was better than anything by Rashford this season.

Thought he looked good last night and also put in a diligent shift tracking back especially when we went down to 10.

Yep thought it was a good performance from him gave us that important second runner when he had breaks on when down to 10 men and put in a decent defensive shift.

Rude not to have the goal in his match thread.
