Ryan Giggs Extends Manchester United Career

By Lee Savery.

Ryan Giggs has signed a new one year contract with Manchester United.

The deal will take Giggs’ career to a 23rd season and up to the summer of 2014, on the eve of his 1,000th senior game. It will, incredibly, be an extension that takes him past his 40th birthday.

The Welsh Wizard has appeared for United in 931 games (also record appearance holder at United when he surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record in 2008) and has scored 168 goals, the latest of those coming against Queens Park Rangers last weekend. He represented Wales 64 times, scoring 12 times and also represented the Great Britain Olympic team, in 2012, with 4 appearances and 1 goal. Giggs also captained all three during his career.

Noted as a model professional by his manager, team mates and peers, Ryan is the most decorated footballer in English football history. With 12 Premier League, 4 FA Cup, 3 League Cup and 2 Champions League winners medals. A record that surely won’t be matched.

Personal accolades include: First player to ever win consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year awards (1992 & 1993), PFA Player of the Year for 2009, PFA Team of The Century inclusion in 2007 as well as Premier League Team of the Decade in 2003 and FA Cup team of the century.

Ryan has also scored in 23 consecutive league seasons and is also the only player to have scored in every Premier League season since its inception. He continued this tradition when he netted against Everton in February.

His United career will probably be extending after 2014, maybe not as a player, but as a coach. Ryan has already been working towards his coaching badges. Some even believe he will be United manager one day.

It has been confirmed Giggs will appear either against Norwich City on Saturday or Real Madrid on Tuesday for his 1,000th senior appearance. What better place for such an event than the Theatre of Dreams?
