Premier League 2
Chelsea vs. Manchester United
Venue: EBB Stadium
Date: Friday, 9 December 2016
Kick-off: 19:05 GMT
Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat away at Chelsea on a slippery surface down in Aldershot.
Despite taking the lead through captain Axel Tuanzebe, Dujon Sterling equalised before Jay DaSilva saw his spot-kick saved.
Nonetheless, the home side grabbed the victory in the second half thanks to goals from Josimar Quintero and Jacob Maddox.
Despite the hosts beginning the brighter, it was Sean Goss’ whipped corner that was glanced in via Tuanzebe’s head for his first ever reserve team goal, exactly one year on from his goal when he netted in the UEFA Youth League against Wolfsburg.
It was another centre-half, Fikayo Tomori, who struck the post as the Blues looked for a response.
They did equalise when Mason Mount’s through ball allowed Ike Ugbo to fortunately square the ball into the path of Sterling, and his shot deflected in to level proceedings.
Continuing to grow, it was number eight in number eight as Matty Willock tripped Mount inside the area, but Kieran O’Hara guessed correctly, denying DaSilva’s penalty with a save to his right.
Ugbo saw a low drive beaten away, Mount rolled he ball wide from Josimar Quintero’s clever chipped pass before the latter bent a shot wide as half-time arrived.
Making up for his penalty miss, DaSilva’s terrific left-hand dribbling allowed him to play a pass across the area, in which Quintero obliged to finish with a first time strike into the bottom corner.
Bar a couple of bookings, it was a quiet second half in terms of action until the match was sealed in stoppage time.
It was a questionable corner that was awarded but United failed to clear their lines, after a scramble and a melee, substitute Maddox struck a low shot to secure the three points.
Full-time arrived with a fair result reflecting the fixture as the away woes continue for the reserves.
Seven wins, eight draws and now eight defeats in the last 23 travels highlights the inconsistency away from home.
Maybe home comforts can alter the fortunes, with Sparta Prague the visitors to Leigh Sports Village in a game that gets underway at 7pm.
