Premier League 2022/23: Liverpool vs Man Utd ~ Sun 5th Mar 4.30pm KO

And to think we were the better team in the first half! Seems a long time ago.

Definitely ruined my Sunday roast. My wife put a lot of effort into it as well. Cheers United!

For this exact reason, we have our roast at lunchtime.

It probably tells the manager a lot about some of our players

I think a result like that has to have consequences.

Those consequences I suspect could see both Dalot and Shaw taken out of the team for a bit.

Bruno could have the armband taken off him as well.

I’d give them a massive b*locking after the game and question them as the fans will never live that down. Debrief the first 3 goals tomorrow then talk about why they all decided to stop playing.

The challenge will be to get these players to move on quickly from a result like that we can’t keep imploding like this it’s the third time this season it’s happened.

I thought Keano could have helped Gary Neville a bit more as Carragher and especially Souness, tried to make it out like Liverpool were world beaters and it wasn't a freakish result.

Yeah a couple of players will be looking over their shoulders after that performance. Dalot will definitely be gone in the next game. Shaw and Martinez both had shockers in the second half but it cannot detract their fine performances this season. Shaw was good in the first half but the wheels totally came off in the second half.

I mentioned it before but we did look tired physically and mentally. Then once Liverpool took control, we couldn’t cope with their energy and intensity. I doubt a result like this happens if we were playing once a week - but I guess that’s the problem when fighting on four fronts.

It was a lot of self sabotage yes Liverpool smelt blood and attacked but to many of our lads just gave in and stopped playing for each other.

There was certainly an element of everything they hit second half went in but the way they gave up and allowed Liverpool to get on top of them like that was not acceptable. It is a crazy game but we could easily have been 1-0 up at half time. The 2nd goal summed it up sloppy passing, limp tackling and panic everything he’d have warned them against at half time.

De Gea, Dalot, Shaw and Fred are all expecting new contracts if I’m Ten Hag I’m questioning if I can trust any of them. They’ve taken a lot of these heavy defeats in their time at Utd.

He has got a lot to do to lift this lot off the floor after that absolutely come crashing back down to earth after Sunday.

An overreaction. Understandable, but counter-productive.

Definitely analyse what went wrong and I agree Dalot has not earned his place back in this team. But, this is a one off and ETH should focus on the things we've been doing over the season that has bought success. Don't let a freak result derail us from our undeniable progress.

Brentford 4-0, City 6-3 and Liverpool 7-0

That is 3 hammerings away from home this season where the team has just imploded and let the opponent rattled in quick goals. That wasn’t a freak result it’s a result this team has in its locker.

I do think a result like this has been in the post for a few weeks. Leicester had loads of chances against us a few weeks back and midweek against West Ham we were awful for about an hour until the subs came on.

Maybe a few to many tired bodies out there today who were found out but this has got to stop.

Dalot and Shaw either side of half-time made huge mistakes that cost us goals and it is not the first time it’s happened to them. These are players who will be expecting new deals on £150k a week and for that I expect players who don’t go to Anfield/Etihad and sh*t their pants.

Maybe so, but I bet Gary Neville would have rather had Keano next to him than some of this lot on here, given some of the comments.

Those same players this season have beaten Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs and Barcelona.

ETH has not solved all our problems, but he won't solve anymore by having a kneejerk hissyfit.

I think like after the Brentford game he has to do something.

I am not calling for lads to be frozen out forever but there has to be a reaction that lets them know if standards are dropped you face consequence.

They didn’t win games by playing as individuals they did it as a team but he can’t sit back and do nothing when it keeps happening. I suspect the full consequence will be felt in the summer when he looks to bring in more players to weed out the players who let these results happen.

You should have turned off after the match. Souness has clearly got into your head!

I turned off at 7-0 no idea why anyone would tune in to post game coverage after that is beyond me.

I don’t like listening to Souness at the best of times but I imagine he was pretty insufferable after todays game.

They were gloating quite a lot and as grown men is was embarrassing. I think Keano and Neville would have had more decorum and been gracious in victory.

They've just humiliated us on the back of a pretty poor season. Think gloating is expected, and deserved.

I’m torn between going full nuclear on the players and shrugging it off as a freak result, but this is exactly the truth.

This group of players has always had this performance in their locker, and the fact that it’s only come out now is a testament to ETH’s management. As you say, it has come out recently, it’s only been punished today.

They shipped 6 at City, 7 at Anfield, 3 at Arsenal, only scraped a late draw at a very poor Chelsea side, couldn’t get the job done away to Sociedad, and still have to play Spurs. Newcastle and Brighton away. The cup runs have all come at home, and our most recent 2nd place finish came in empty stadiums.

This squad is full of bottlers who shrink when the lights are the brightest. The only way they prove this wrong, is by how they react to this. Nothing makes this result go away, but if they don’t lose in the league for the rest of the season and take one of the remaining cups, it’s forgivable as a freak one off. Even Fergie shipped 5 to Newcastle, Chelsea and 6 to City. If they sh*t themselves at WHL or SJP and crash out to Betis/anyone in the FA Cup, this result is who they are, until they prove time and time again that it isn’t.

On a plus side, ETH would have learnt a lot about the players. That midfield was bossed yesterday.

Glad I didn’t watch the post match stuff then. As it is Carragher was practically frothing at the mouth whenever Liverpool scored.

I think the truth is it's a freak result the first half was very even but what kills me with this team is their ability to make multiple mistakes in one moment. The first two goals there were 3 players who had a chance to stop that goal from happening but all 3 made horrible decisions and against a team with Liverpool's quality you can't give them chances as those strikers don't miss. Second half the message was surely just see out the first 15 minutes where they'll come hard at us then we go for it instead we appeared for the second half looking like everyone had tucked into a sunday dinner and was feeling a bit drowsy.

He isn't going to be able to perform the nuclear option right now he doesn't have the players available to make major changes and his next game is probably more important that yesterday but I suspect he's made a few marks in his notebook for the summer.

The big worry for me is this team is still unable to keep the ball under pressure against a good opponent we are great on the counter in these big games but we do not take control of the ball well at all. Liverpool 60% (a) 70% (h), Arsenal 57% (a) 60% (h), City (h) 61% (a) 54%. That is how much of the ball the opponent has had home and away against us this season in 6 games not once have we had more of the ball. These are the 3 teams in the league who love having the ball and don't play counter attack.

If you want to go away from home to top sides and win you have to go there and take the ball off them you can't just play counter attack.

I do think there is an element of Utd looking like a team running on fumes at the moment and that is probably why he needs to think about making a few changes. Really it's just a case of getting to that international break now hopefully still in the 3 cups and making sure we don't slip at home to Southampton.

My personal highlight of yesterday was a short corner we took in the first half.

I think it went from Shaw to Bruno to Anthony to Fred back to Dalot then I think to De Gea who humped it clear for a throw in. The funny thing was Liverpool didn't even press us that hard we just made such a mess of it that we had to keep going backwards.

It went to both Anthony and Fred on their weaker right foot meaning neither was going to actually cross it.

After a few understandably emotional posts in the aftermath of the debacle of yesterday, the dust has settled and I feel I can think with a little more clarity.

First half: we weathered their expected fast start really well and as the half progressed we started to control the game, silenced the crowd and created two great chances. We have been notoriously slow starters in games but it was better yesterday. Casemiro looked to have picked up an injury in the first couple of minutes which impacted his and the midfield performance for the rest of the game. It was a difficult header for Bruno but with his quality he would have expected to at least hit the target. For the second chance, i'm sure we were all screaming for Marcus to put his boot through the ball. He didn't seem fully sharp yesterday and I wonder whether he was carrying a niggle, as he only played half an hour or so on Wednesday night. And then, when you think you have had a decent first half we concede from their first shot on goal. If Fred holds his position to prevent the inside pass. then the ball goes wide and we defend the cross. This was such a sucker punch, as we were the better team in that first half up to that moment.

Second half: it concerned me that before coming onto the pitch, the players were laughing and joking in the the tunnel. Where was the focus and intent? This is Liverpool v United, laugh and joke only if you win! The whistle blew and what followed was a catalogue of errors, poor decision making and a collective shocking performance. The lack of character, effort, fight, intensity and pride was most surpriing given we have Champions League, World Cup, Domestic League winners and seasoned professionals, and has already been mentioned, unfortunately this squad has this type of result in them. For players to then stop tracking back or pressing was disgusting. We have enough experience for the team to say okay we're losing 3-0, let's not concede any more and make this embarrassing.

With the remarkable progress that EtH has made in such a short time, it is easy to forget that he is working with the same squad of the past few years, which is why yesterday was not totally a freak result or unexpected. The one positive is that the manager will have had his suspicions confirmed by some of the players yesterday.

For the first time, I thought EtH got his tactics wrong. I would have had Rashford against TAA on the left, Bruno against Robertson on the right, Weghorst up top. No. 10 role then becomes an issue, if Sancho is fully fit/trusted then he plays in behind Weghorst , otherwise i'd have Casemiro, Fred and Sabitzer in midfield with Fred playing slightly higher up the pitch.

Luckily we play Real Betis on Thursday, and a big reaction is needed.

wow, just seen the video of Weghorst touching the Anfield sign on his way out onto the pitch along with all the Liverpool players o_O

Mr Mountain meet Mr Molehill.

Silly thing to be caught doing but Solskjaer was a member of the Liverpool supporters club as a kid.

One thing you can't question is Weghorst's graft he runs his nuts off in every game.

Turns out Weghorst only did it to try and wind up Van Dijk - by trying to stop him touching the sign. So much outrage for nothing.

Oh yea, and the only reason Bruno went down in a heap holding his mush is because he was entitled to think that Konate thought his chin was on the floor

I'm not sure it's for nothng, have you ever known a Man Utd player to ever do that.

It's an odd one. But he won't be here next season anyway so move on.

Maybe if he'd played like he was on the pitch there wouldn't be so much outrage.
