Utd really did the damage in the first leg coming in with a 3-0 lead.

You have to assume both sides will rotate quite a bit, Forest may go full strength and hope for an early goal.

For Utd the news about Eriksen is a blow he's unlikely to return until the last few weeks of the season.

Maguire has served his ban so I guess he starts.

I think he'll only want to rest those who need one he'll want to keep some of the momentum going if he can.

Heaton

Lindelof Maguire Martinez Malacia

Fred McTominay

Anthony Bruno Garnacho

Weghorst

I think he is they said on Saturday it was a minor injury but haven't seen much else since.

Resting a whole host of players would be fraught with danger - we still need enough quality players on the pitch to get the job done.

Hoping Garnacho and Mainoo both get starts though.

I believe Dalot is still out, so you'd expect the back 4 to pick itself.

AwB - Lindelof - Maguire - Malacia

Casemiro should be sitting somewhere that isn't OT with his feet up. Surely we can avoid shipping 4 without him.

Mc Fred

Antony - Sancho - Garnacho

Weghorst

Sancho and Martial are back in the squad but McTominay is out for a few weeks.

Good to see him back lets hope whatever has been holding him back in a Utd shirt is in the past and we start to see the best version of Sancho.

Will definitely be good to see him back. Hopefully these last few months he’s been able to get into a good place physically and mentally.

I can understand Varane and Martinez but expected a lot of the others to be rested.

Definitely a stronger team but another case of get the job done and then rest some guys.

Think he must feel like he wants the job done and he will make the changes after an hour.

Is Butland cup tied?

With Eriksen, McT and Donny all injured the midfield likely picks itself.

He doesn’t seem to be a big fan of making loads of changes these players will need to be fit enough to play 2 games a week going forward.

Been a poor performance not clicked at all going forward and the 2 best chances have gone Forest on the break.

Interesting battle between Garnacho and Williams. Williams getting the better of him so far but he’s getting plenty of help from his team mates.

Playing this like a training game and could have been punished a couple of times.

Weghorst will be fuming with that miss, inches away from perfection.

Has the VAR team gone home? How was that not a penalty on Weghorst. Baffling decision.

VAR really is a waste of time now they aren’t giving anything it’s basically being used for offside and handball on goals.

1-0

Martial made a right mess of that setup to Rashford but luckily it bounces for him to tuck in the rebound.

Think the Referee had a few bob on there being no penalties tonight, the Weghorst one was an obvious penalty, whether the defender didn't see him coming or not, and the earlier one on Garnacho was a penalty as well, unless they have changed the rules and you are allowed to push an attacker over.

Only saw the second half, but by all accounts we were just as dreadful straight from the off. The only reason I can think of for so many first teamers to start was that ETH wanted to experiment with live opposition, but clearly the players were more motivated by avoiding injury than putting in a performance. Much rather have seen the kids who would've at least tried to make an impression.

Mark my words, after the refs correctly applied the rule of law and gave the Bruno goal v City, we are going to get nothing for the rest of the season. How did VAR not intervene for the handball pen and then looked for a possible red card where there was absolutely nothing? It beggars belief.

They've clearly changed the rules to stop VAR getting involved in big decisions.

There's been some absolute shockers in the last few weeks where blatant red cards/penalties that the ref have obviously missed have been getting ignored by VAR.

The high bar as they call it for intervention has been raised under instruction from Howard Webb who's now in charge.

Struggling to remember the last time I watched a premier league game where the ref went to the monitor and gave a penalty.

Aren't obvious red cards missed by Refs big decisions?

The sooner it's scrapped the better.

VAR can only check for 2 things in open play which are penalties and red cards.

The other stuff like handball and offside only really comes in when goals are scored and is automatic if either happens the goals ruled out.

In the last few weeks it's become clear than on red cards and penalties they just aren't getting involved. The only one I've seen them change recently was the Newcastle game the other night the VAR called the ref over and told him they needed to upgrade a yellow to a red for a tackle by Bruno.

That to me felt like a direct backlash for the blatant red that Fabinho got away with at the weekend.

As for penalties that is two absolute bankers in the last few weeks that haven't been given last night the Weghorst one and the McTominay one vs Palace. I like to think I can call things pretty fairly both were 100% penalties.

It's like Big Brother is watching the Referees some of the time, or when it suits - GET RID

Well they are now watching Howard Webb is now in charge of the refs but he's taken up the role mid season and his direction to the referees is when they are acting as the VAR they should only refer ref cards and penalties to the referees if there's been a very clear and obvious error.

For anything where it's debatable they stick to the on field decision.

I'm with you it needs to be a use it or lose it policy if we're not trying to get the correct decisions why bother having it.

Wrong thread to keep this going, but I've always believed that VAR should only be used for all offsides(take that decision making away from the linesperson, they can't get it wrong if they don't have that call) and for mistaken identity, and have the players aware retrospective red cards will always be handed out for blatant thuggery missed by the match-day officials.

I think they’ve got it about right go with the linesman call unless it results in a goal, checking every offside would take forever.

I do think positives of VAR are a lot less diving in the box and dirty off the ball stuff as big brother is watching but I think it’s also changed the way refs make decisions. They don’t make big calls on instinct anything with any doubt they don’t give it and wait for VAR to correct them.

I can think of 3 absolute howlers from VAR this season that went against Utd.
