This is why you play your best team in the first leg - put the tie to bed and you can rest players in the second leg.

Anyho, needed that after Arsenal(though watching it back we played well), now need to keep that level up for the weekend when Ince(boo, hiss etc)brings his Reading club to Old Trafford.

And before I forget, brilliant from both sets of fans for the perfectly observed minutes silence for Holocaust Remembrance Day. Quality.

Lets not be getting above ourselves, this was Forest. A result against Arsenal on Sunday would have been much better and it's when we start getting these results we can consider ourselves BACK!
We are still significantly less than what we need to be.

Oh go stick your head in a blender ya killjoy.

It nothing to generate great celebration as far as I am concerned, we simply met expectancy. A league cup and a top 4 finish isn't good enough.
A title and any cup is. You want us to be a domestic cup team do you?

Does this not go without saying?

Sod off with that shite, I, and probably everybody else that watched/listened to it, expected it to be ruined.

Yes sad that I had to mention it but welcome to England.

Yeah the fans that think we are now the greatest team on the planet after beating Nottingham Forest need to rein it in a bit

It doesn't matter what I want.

Possibly I have more faith in people than you. What right minded folk would ruin it? and what right minded folk wouldn't deal with someone next to them ruining it?

Good for you. Yeah cos telling the Moron next to you to stfu is really gonna help with the silence. Think before you post.

Hope Jesse Lingard scores at Old Trafford in the 2nd leg, probably get the biggest cheer of the night.

You're talking drivel if you wouldn't have snapped off someone's hand for top 4 and a cup win at the start of the season.

I don't care one iota about this cup, never have. But I do think a cup win will be really positive for this team. Even if I'm not paying attention

A cup win would be fantastic. Don't get why anyone wouldn't want to get the winning feeling back amongst the squad. It's what Mourinho, Pep and Klopp all used for the foundations in getting their teams in the winning mentality.

Also tells the players in the squad we are moving in the right direction.

We are not at the start of the season are we? We now know how our new manager and his new signings have changes the culture and dynamics of the club. My expectations are now higher, as are our managers.
I have no idea why you choose to make habit of such pugnacious language. And you a moderator as well!

Great win the second half we were much better created plenty of chances and didn't give them much of a look and getting that 3rd goal was key as that should totally kill them off.

Will they even play their first XI in the second leg?

I have no idea why you continuously try to put a downer on everything.

The clubs just won 3-0 in a cup semi final and you're banging on about it meaning nothing.

We are having a good season in line with expectations and instead I have to come in and read about how it doesn't matter.

Your expectations being higher is a good thing and something you should note has only happened because the club is performing better than you expected to put a smile on that face and stop being such a negative nancy on a gameday thread we won 3-0.

If the league cup and a top 4 finish was good enough at the start of the season it's good enough now.

You can't move the goal post half way through to push a negative mindset.

Though I guess a comfortable 3-0 win and a trip to Wembley isn't enough for some.

A top 4 finish and a cup is an achievement this season. If you thought we could win the title this season then you live in cloud cuckoo land - even if ETH is implementing something good here it wasn’t going to be enough to suddenly make us into title challengers.

At the start of the season I felt the target had to be top 4 and a cup.

That remains the target and at the half way stage we're well on track to reaching that target.

Next season the target will be to challenge for the title, quarter finals in the champions league and a cup. The bar has to be raised back to what it was 10 years ago and I always felt that was the minimum requirement of a Ferguson side. You didn't have to win the league every season but you needed to be in the race at the end.

we're easily excelling my low targets.

Considering how we finished last year, playing style, player attitudes etc I was just hoping for a turn around in attitude and to get some sort of playing style.

Fantastic job by ETH.

If we finish this year top 4, with a cup (I'd like the Europa) and get new owners. Wow, what a season.

I always felt we had a shot as I just didn't see 4 teams that were better than us granted I didn't expect Liverpool to tank in the way they have and for Arsenal to be as good but I always thought we'd be in the hunt for 4th.

Last season to me was just a write off the season before we'd been 3rd and 2nd so I saw no reason why the squad couldn't get back towards that with a new manager and some fresh faces.

I'm not fussed which cup to be honest I'll take league cup and 3rd/4th at this stage.

Europa will be interesting the Barcelona tie will be a good test of where we are against a top european side.

That's a false statement for starters. Its the feckin league cup!
I would have traded that last night for a win against Arsenal to maintain pressure on the top 2 any day.
I want good win performances when they matter most. Arsenal made us look like what we are, League Cup wannabees

I really don't get the negativity around the league cup.

To me the league cup is worth the same as the FA Cup if anything I reckon the top sides prefer it now as it's done and dusted early in the season.

Yes Utd's ambition should be to win Premier Leagues and European Cups but we've been well out of that picture for a decade so cups give a bit of relief during league campaigns that have often been over by the time the clocks go back.

Utd seem to have turned it back in a positive direction after the shambles of last season, there's a feel good factor back around the club.

Still a long way to go to win another league title but it's feeling closer than it did at any point under the last 4 managers.
