Manchester City Discussion 2021/22

Champions... asterisk. Everything City wins is tainted and should have a sports-washing asterisk attached to it. Abramovitch started the decline, City exacerbated it, and Newcastle will bang in the final nail in the PL coffin. The FA let us down. Who will watch the watchmen? fecking no one.

Jack Grealish has been an absolute embarrassment since City won the title. He mocked Almiron of Newcastle by saying Mahrez was playing as bad as him. The Newcastle players are definitely chopping him in half next season!

He seems to be the poster boy of their title win for some reason but he really hasn’t done anything this season.

He’s a proper moron for that comment.

Not going to lie if I'd just won the league at his age I'd probably have disgraced myself he sounded like a man who hasn't been to bed in a few days. Footballers are all close nit you might find that he's mates with Almiron so just having a laugh as he's a strange player to single out unless you know him.

He's the poster boy in football at the moment for his looks just signed a huge deal with Gucci he's very popular with the young ladies but unlike Becks who backed it up on the pitch all those years ago he hasn't really been able to do that since moving to City.

They needed 3 goals to win the league and they left their £100m summer creative superstar signing sitting on the bench and Bernardo Silva even called him out on that when he had a pop on him.

All I'd say about him is he seems pretty harmless and is a good lad he's just daft.

City looking for 2 more signings according to reports.

They've beefed up the attack with Haaland and Alvarez coming in now the reports are they want a centre mid to replace Fernandinho and also a left back.

They'll get De Jong I'm sure of it.

I'm not sure they'll go for him.

I think they want a more physical player to bolster the squad rather than the starting line up seems to be a lot of talk about Phillips who I think could be a smart move for them.

Not sure where they are in terms of the home grown numbers for their squad these days so they might need to buy domestic.

Philips seems to be the one they are after
I really think he'll be class for them. He fits what they need and I think has more to offer too. But hey I thought Grealish was going to become one of the best in the world when he signed for City and so far I've been very wrong.

I’m more confident about Phillips fitting in than Grealish always felt he’d struggle be interesting to see how he does in the second season.

Yeah I agree. I actually think if Grealish would have signed for United and Sancho for City they would have had better individual seasons. I'm not suggesting that Sancho was a bad signing or anything but I think this past year both were better fits for the opposite side of Manchester.

Nah Grealish would have been a disaster for us we didn't need another left winger we needed a guy to play on the right.

Sancho came good in the middle of the season but like the rest drifted at the end.

I think with Haaland as the centre forward Grealish might find it a bit easier to play from that left side.

Bud Sancho played a lot from the left and that was also where he was most effective. So yes I agree we needed a right winger but we didn't get that.

Your point was Grealish would have been good for Utd my response was he'd have had the exact same problem Sancho did which was until he was put in his best position he'd have struggled as Grealish cannot play on the right. Sancho would have been great for City though he clearly needs that full back over lapping him.

For me Sancho is another player signed without a real plan on how he's going to fit in Dortmund from memory were playing a 3-4-3 system with really attacking wing backs and Sancho would use that overlap whichever side he was on to create space.

Interested to see how ETH uses him next season.

At City I think Grealish would benefit having a proper left back outside him at City currently it feels like him and Cancelo get in each others way as both want to come inside.

My point was that if Grealish signed for United last year and Sancho signed for City they'd have had different years. Grealish is very much an individual which is this United team in a nutshell. United wouldn't have signed Grealish to play him on the right so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

I disagree I think Sancho would have been fine at City he'd fit that side perfectly but Grealish would have been a problem at Utd I actually think he'd have been worse for us than he was at City.

I expect both to have much better seasons next year.

None of the big money signings from last season really had much impact Grealish, Sancho and Lukaku all struggled.

And look it is fun to debate this. I just think he would have been good for United because he's an individual who makes things happen. I'm not suggesting he'd have made a huge difference at United though just that he as an individual would have had a better year.

My biggest concern with him was how would he adapt to just being A guy in the team not THE guy in the team.

I know we've been an odd bunch of individuals for the last few years I think adding another off the cuff player would have been a disaster Bruno, Rashford, Pogba and Grealish all just hanging out on the left doing what they want while Fred tries to desperately cover the entire middle of the pitch.

I think it'll be interesting to see if he gets more playing time at City next season sounds like Sterling or Mahrez might go and that Alvarez is coming in to replace Jesus so on paper you expect they'll be a bit more reliant on Grealish. Does seem with the lads at City that it takes them a year to get to grips with it then they start looking the part.

Yeah it does. And I suppose that's understandable. I mean Pep wants his players to play a certain way and do certain things. He wants them to pass and move. He wants them to work hard without the ball to win back possession etc.

Think it's partly down to them having such a settled side rarely do they sign a player who has to go straight in the team. Quite a few of them come in and have that year to almost work their way into the starting XI and replace a guy who's leaving or coming to the end of their career.

There's also the teamwork element you have to get to grips with the role you are being asked to perform on and off the ball which takes time.

It's a great position to be in buying to improve a strong team is easier than buying to improve a weak team because if City make a mistake it doesn't mean their entire plan is screwed.
