Loan Watch 2021/22: James Garner at Nottingham Forest

Spoiler alert: nailed on next year is going to be another really bad year. We should create a thread on here and predict what people (including us) will be saying this time next year. I think we will see green shoots of positive new growth but the jury will very much still be out, and ETH’s...

Loan Watch 2021/22: James Garner at Nottingham Forest

As much as I think Garner would improve us, I think the best thing for him would be to stay and help Forest fight to stay up. He needs to start every week, not play a bit role. I am hoping we sign 2 new midfielders, and I’m also hoping McFred is a thing of the past. If we only get in 1 quality...

2021/22 End of Season Review - Harry Maguire

Good lord, that's quite an exaggeration. England faced a bunch of shitty teams who couldn't get near the goal, so Maguire didn't stand out negatively. But again it doesn't matter what Maguire does for England because we don't play that way and there are generally better players in every position...

2021/22 End of Season Review ~ De Gea

Player of the Year again. 8. His reflexes are still cat-like, he makes saves that look to break the laws of physics. His passing could be better, but that could be said about the entire XI.

2021/22 End of season review ~ Aaron Wan Bissaka

He plays like a winger converted to full back. He just doesn't get the basics of defending, although his stretching tackles are eye-catching. He shouldn't get to that point needing a last ditch tackle. He's not great going forwards either. I don't think Dalot was any better, though, and I'd have...

2021/22 End of Season Review ~ Diogo Dalot

Dalot seems better suited to Italy. He's just not good enough for a top 6 (top 10?) side. I'd sell him, use an academy player as bench back up if needed, or go in for a January transfer if disaster strikes. He's not good enough as a back up option, certainly not good enough to start.

2021/22 End of Season Review - Luke Shaw

Shaw on form is a tough, combative player, and the best of our defenders. I don't think he's enough of a "modern" full back, in that the game really needs the full backs to launch attacks. Shaw is too cautious, doesn't like to get to the bye-line and cross, so our play constantly holds up even...

2021/22 End of Season Review - Raphael Varane

Disappointing season. Even when fit he didn't seem up to the challenge. With his injuries curtailing most of this season, we should probably realize he's crocked. Sell.

2021/22 End of Season Review - Victor Lindelof

Like many in our team, Lindelof excels in a system we don't play. That is set to change under ETH. McFred also are asked to play differently than their best positions, so our whole first team are a bunch of square pegs. Reads the game better than Maguire, has a better footballing brain, better...

2021/22 End of Season Review - Alex Telles

I guess I'm massively overrating him by giving him a 5. Normally, a 5/10 should be nowhere near the first team, let alone the reserves. I felt he was playing to the absolute peak of his abilities. He isn't a shirker, he doesn't avoid getting stuck in, he tries him damnedest, and most of the time...

2021/22 End of Season Review - Harry Maguire

I agree with both JSP and Rich. Maguire is an average defender in this league, he's somewhere in the middle. At least, when he came to us, I'd say he's in the middle, but this season he's well below average. He was never going to be a world-beater. He has huge boots to fill, with players like...

Premier League 2021/22: Crystal Palace vs Man Utd ~ Sun 22 May 4pm KO

I hope we can give your grandsons something to look forward to seeing next season. You're doing right by them, trying to instill a love of this club in them. Good luck.

Exactly. I think they bought in to his plan, briefly, and then when the results went against us they turned on each other.

    Manchester City Discussion 2021/22

Champions... asterisk. Everything City wins is tainted and should have a sports-washing asterisk attached to it. Abramovitch started the decline, City exacerbated it, and Newcastle will bang in the final nail in the PL coffin. The FA let us down. Who will watch the watchmen? fecking no one.

Premier League 2021/22: Crystal Palace vs Man Utd ~ Sun 22 May 4pm KO

I was never 'Ole out', but I did say that Ole would never make this squad champions. Either we needed to heavily re-invest in new players, or get a better manager to get a tune out of these players. We did neither. Ole helped clear the toxic atmosphere Jose created, but he just wasn't tactically...

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka | Match Discussion thread 2021/22

Under Ole’s rule, AWB was fine. Ole wanted to play 4231 and hit on the counter. The new guy doesn’t want to play that way, so AWB no longer fits. I don’t think that’s bad scouting, just a change of plan.

Premier League 2021/22: Crystal Palace vs Man Utd ~ Sun 22 May 4pm KO

I think part of it, too, is understanding that the players we have want to play. It sounds obvious but we treat it as a surprise when players don’t like sitting on the bench (or not even making the bench). Case in point is Lingard. Wasn’t playing, got a loan move, did exceptionally well, then...

    Pogba to leave?

Pogba was a piecemeal solution to our creativity problems, but he wasn't able to carry this team on his back. It became clear that the team around him had to shoulder additional responsibilities to get the best out of him - basically do his defending for him - and the supporting cast wasn't good...

Premier League 2021/22: Crystal Palace vs Man Utd ~ Sun 22 May 4pm KO

I have never been as ready for a season to end as this one. I kinda understand what Rich on here was saying awhile ago about his love for football being snuffed out. For awhile there I watched every United game, including the U23s, U18s, and women's team (when those were available on MUTV), even...

    What needs to change?

I agree with most of this, except the bolded part could be changed to: "any position in the team". Any good/really good player in any position would be an immediate upgrade. Like a 7/10 player would be an upgrade. The way they are playing, none of them are good enough.

    What needs to change?

150-200 would have us definitely out of the European places, like we are finishing this season. We need 3 transformational players: 1 forward, 1 midfielder, 1 defender. And by transformational, I mean a player who comes into the team and the team is reborn. To get those 3, we're going to have...

    Lingard to Leave?

I think after 20 years at the club he could have been allowed a send-off. We didn't need to bring on Cavani, for instance. I agree he's not good enough and it's time for him to go, but I think he was mislead and mistreated by Ole. He should have been allowed to leave when he would have been...

    What needs to change?

Time will tell, but this is something I would feel confident enough in to put money on the outcome. Neither Lindelof nor Maguire are world class, and never will be. Lindelof, having played DM, will do better under an ETH system than Maguire, who thrives in a back 3. ETH requires his back 4 or 5...

    What needs to change?

You should visit some other United fan sites. Your hatred of Lindelof and adoration of Maguire is unmatched. The most common opinions are that Lindelof will thrive under ETH and Maguire will fail.
