Manchester United’s Goal of the Month for March?

In the month of March, Manchester United scored a total of 15 goals in 6 games. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Rooney – 6 goals
  • Berbatov – 3 goals
  • Park – 2 goals
  • Fletcher – 1 goal
  • Scholes – 1 goal
  • Gibson – 1 goal
  • Own Goal – 1

Paul Scholes v Wolves

Perhaps this is sentimental suggestion for goal of the month. Paul Scholes scored his 100th Premier League goal against Wolves, not the greatest goal but a vital goal in the circumstances as we were struggling to overcome a battling and determined Wolves team in a scrappy game. Scholes created a similar chance for himself the previous week against West Ham United, that time however he ballooned the ball over the crossbar. Not this occasion, when it mattered Scholes kept his cool to bury the chance.

Wayne Rooney’s 1st v AC Milan

Great cross by Gary Neville even better header from Rooney. Simple. The goal virtually killed the tie as a contest.

Wayne Rooney’s 2nd v AC Milan

This suggestion is mainly for the skill and class of Nani’s pass. An outside of foot pass (one of the more difficult skills in the game) into the path of a gut busting Rooney who toe poked the ball past the onrushing AC Milan goalkeeper. Rooney’s desire to beat Abbiati (AC Milan’s goalkeeper) to the ball first cannot be discounted for this goal.

Wayne Rooney’s 2nd goal v Fulham

Berbatov’s assist to set up Rooney for the second goal was nothing short of class. He controlled the ball superbly (something I take as a given now from Berbatov) from a long Michael Carrick pass. With two defenders around Berbaotv he knocked the ball past one of the defenders and with a burst of speed reached the ball and laid a cross on for Rooney which he could not fail to score.

Ji-Sung Park v Liverpool

The winning goal was brave and showed the committed side of Ji-Sung Park. The goal was a good team move involving Gary Neville, Darren Fletcher and obviously Park. On the right flank, Neville over-lapped Fletcher drawing the attentions of Insua, which allowed time and space for Fletcher to deliver a high quality cross for Park to bravely score a diving heading with boots flying around his head. Perhaps this isn’t the best goal of all time, but it was the winner against Liverpool. 🙂

What about goals I have not mentioned, have I not included a better goal?
