Manchester United announced today that Italian striker Federico Macheda has joined German club VfB Stuttgart for the rest of the season.
The striker, who burst onto the football scene with winning goals against Aston Villa & Sunderland in 2009, has not made a single league appearance for the Red Devils this season.
This will be his third loan spell of his career having previously joined Sampdoria in 2011 and Queens Park Rangers in 2012. In 16 appearances for Sampdoria, he scored only once in a cup match while at QPR he only made 6 appearances with no goals to show for it as an ankle injury ended his season.
At 21, Macheda’s career has stalled with him struggling to get in the first team ahead of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. However, he has been a regular for the U21s and is their leading goal scorer with 8 goals in 12 starts.
Macheda will be available to play against Bayern Munich on Sunday.
