Treble on? Cups only.

Don't care if it's a plastic, polystyrene or playdough treble, a cup treble would be a remarkable achievement.

If we get more than our fair share of luck(VAR/draws) is it on?

Obviously we'll know more on the 26th, but until then ....

Upcoming fixtures:

16/02 - Barcelona(A) - Europa League
23/02 - Barcelona(H) - Europa League

26/02 - NewCastle United - League Cup

01/03 - West Ham - FA Cup

Four very tough games, no doubt about that, we could very well lose them all, or win them all.

But with my happy positive knickers on I'm going:

Lose first leg in Catalonia 2-1, and win the home tie 2-0(3-2 agg.)

Beat NewCastle 1-0 in a bore fest.

And batter West Ham 4-0

I'd love to win 3 cups but it's not a treble.

My gut says we end up with the league cup only.

Injuries are hitting now and I think we'll struggle to get past Barcelona when we're not at our best.

FA Cup still a long way to go .

I have no interest in the milk cup. I do think it will be good for this team to win something, but it's a pointless cup for me.

mild interest in the FA cup but when they put it on Sky and moved it to 5pm etc and I couldn't watch it for years I fell out with this competition too. I like the early rounds with the lower league teams.

I like the European cups, this would be the one I want to win.

A cup is a cup to me and for the fans that go it's a day out at Wembley.

I don't celebrate either cup more than the other.

Europa to me does my head in especially as we've ended up in this silly additional round thanks to a ridiculous referee decision.

Not the conventional treble maybe, but that has only been done once by an English club in nearly 68 years for a reason.

It would still be 3 trophies, you can call it a double if you want to play the achievement down.

It's not about whether you have any interest in one Cup or an other it's the confidence the club/players would get from being winners, once they know they can win anything is possible ....

I will happily be proven wrong but traditionally a double is league and FA cup and a treble is league, FA cup and European Cup.

Winning 3 trophies in 1 season and finishing in the top 4 is a hell of an ask for this squad given we've seen depth is a problem.

So far in the domestic cups we've had pretty kind draws all home games against teams outside of the big 6.

Read the op again, I didn't suggest it would be the treble, you know 99 and all that, but a treble as in 3 trophies.

The squad is fine, we've depth in every position, if Martial could stay fit.

They are all teams we'd traditionally trip up against, plus it's about bloody time, we've had some brutal draws over recent years.

But Martial can't stay fit we have years of evidence that proves this and we know for sure that Eriksen is gone for 3 months which leaves a big gap in the midfield. We're kind of hoping that Sabitzer settles in quickly as no one wants 3 months of Fred or McT every game.

If we lost Bruno we'd probably be relying on Sancho as the number 10.

God forbid we lost Rashford for a few weeks without him where are goals coming from?

I don't feel like the squad is miles away but we've seen 3 or 4 injuries hitting at the same time and suddenly we are struggling to beat the teams in the middle/bottom half.

I mean it was said sarcastically and tongue in cheek. Chill self.

Sorry still smarting from having my Quadruple thread locked earlier, and your comment had me expecting this masterpiece of a thread to follow the same way, well you know what you Mods are like, a bit of power and it all goes to your heads ....

Well if Martial can't stay fit it's up to EtH to juggle his resources, we are overendowed with wide-players who can all do a job centrally.

And why are you constantly wishing injury on our key players, you could say the same about all the other teams we are competing against for honours, a few injuries could derail them, them's the breaks.

It's a brutal League this season, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been beaten, or outplayed for large parts of games by teams in the bottom 4/5 in recent weeks in League/Cups, and best get used to it as it'll happen more and more as we get to the business end of the season.

I'm not wishing injury on anyone but given the history of injury you have to worry that at some point Rashford will miss a few games and that Martial will miss most of the games through the run in.

It has been brutal and I think down the stretch all those extra games will catch up to us like it did with Liverpool. If we reach all 3 finals we will play the maximum number of games possible.

We've got better options in defence and midfield to what Liverpool have/had. And it's your defence that wins you titles.

I’d be Interested to know when the last time the team that scored the most goals didn’t win the league.

I hear what you say you need a mean defence but goals win games and the quicker you can bury a side the quicker you can shut up shop and save your legs.

Far too many successful Managers have said "Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles" for there not to be any truth to it, but obviously there are exceptions as some teams blitz through a League season outscoring everybody, but generally the teams that can string five or six 1-0 wins together when it all comes on top go on to become the most successful.

Man City won the Division One title in the 36/37 season scoring the most goals(107), the following season they again scored the most goals in the Division, and got relegated.

This was before football restricted contact, introduced VAR, messed with offside rules that in theory make it more high scoring than it ever was before.

I didn’t even have to go back far 2019/20 City top scorers finished second by 17 points to Liverpool but only let in 2 more goals. They scored 102 goals and let in 35 and were still miles off the title.

I firmly believe the best thing a manager can do is get the goals flowing in a team, once he does that I think you work on tightening up. No Utd manager since Fergie has got the goals flying in and that is why we’ve been nowhere near a league title in a decade.

They'd have been better off scoring 75 and conceding only 25, it's no point wracking up massive win in games you're gonna win any way if there is a side far superior to you in the League.

And though it would be nice to win the League again, and soon, hopefully we don't copy Liverpool or City on how they did it as neither is what the vast majority of fans would want to be watching week after week, game after game. If I had to pick one it would be the Liverpool way, but as we discussed earlier in the season/backend of last season United should not have to rely on being a counter-attacking team to be successful.

Though I felt at the time that's the way we should have gone(until we were established as a team that won trophies), and it was when the fans wanted us to be more expansive that the wheels came off.

Anyho i'm pre-ordering my Manchester United - Cup Kings 22/23 video, don't want to miss out on that beauty.

Yep, finger is on the trigger.

If they don’t like the number of games they have to play they can take themselves over to Ukraine and help the war effort

What a very odd thing to say.

I am sure they’ll be buzzing with all the games but your body can only take so much before it starts to impact on your performance.

If we are going to go all the way in the cups they could do with settling a few of the games early on so they can coast through the last half hour. Far to many of our games are going into the last 10 minutes with only 1 goal in it.

It’s not odd at all. They are mollycoddled and privelidged. Get on with it, we don’t need a team full of Martians with backbones made of fag ash

It is odd to jump to such a ridiculous extreme having totally missed the point.

The players won’t complain and neither will the manager but playing that many games is a huge test for any squad.

Especially those who also played a World Cup mid season.

The point was injuries will likely hit as players bodies start to feel the strain and Casemiro missing 4 games out of 5 due to suspension hasn’t helped either.

The squad is already stretched we can’t afford any more needless disciplinary issues.

Our inability to finish sides on the break is going to cost us this season. Opposition managers aren't scared to throw men forward anymore because we are unlikely to hit them on the counter and punish them. Take the Palace game for example. They were bombing forward without regard for defending, and we couldn't do anything but hold on and pray for the final whistle. The major difference from years gone by, is we're not conceding as many late point(s) dropping goals.

Can't remember the last time we had a game killed off at halftime or even 60 min and could coast home in style.
