Scott McTominay | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Not many 11 year olds do ;)

You get the point. People very quickly realised Gibson and Cleverley weren’t quite up to it and they moved on.

I’ve never been convinced he’s good enough to be part of a top Utd side, he’s currently 4th choice and he wants to play I suspect that will see him move on.

We were still winning Leagues when Gibson and Cleverley were moved on and both had rotten luck with injuries and it was felt best for their careers if they were to move on.

Never met/talked to anybody that was/is, but if he's not pushing to move he'd be useful to keep around, because of his versatility, and relative low wage. You can't just have a team/squad of Superstars.

No, but you can have squad players who actually offer something on the pitch when played.

I suspect Ten Hag will look to bring in another centre mid this summer as an upgrade on Eriksen that bumps McT from 4th choice to 5th choice.

I suspect they’ll try and agree a new deal with Fred if they agree something then I’d say it’s time for McT to move on ifhe wants regular playing time as he won’t get it at Utd.

You suggesting Mourinho, Carrick, Ole, Rangnick and EtH who all picked him are/were picking him for giggles and they knew/know he has no footballing abilities?

Go on then, i'm interested, how would you have replied? But just imagine you don't think Scott McTom is the worst player to have ever pulled on the the famous Red shirt first.
It shows how poor our midfield options were under those managers and in fact still are.

That's not the lads fault though, and you can maybe fool one Manager, but not 4 or 5, they've obviously seen/see something in him that you just don't want to see.

Dunno about that Casemiro and Eriksen are a serious jump up in class to what we've had for 5 or 6 years, maybe longer.

I have read that he made 20 passes for the whole game. That’s an incredible stat.

He doesn’t possess the intelligence nor the quality on the ball to play in midfield.

He's 26, so should be near his prime. As Bob said, 20 passes. Attempted 27. Casemiro's averaging over 50 passes per game and that includes four appearances as a sub.

I've always said his game isn't suited to a DM role, he doesn't have the awareness to effectively shield or the vision to move the ball quickly.

I would be very surprised if ETH doesn't move him on, after working with him for a full season.

McTominay was an attacking midfielder when he came through the academy he's had a crack at being a centre midfielder but he's just not up to it. Now Utd have bought a couple of centre mids for the first time in years we now clearly see what he lacks.

I don't think he's a player who ETH will be forcing out the door but if he says he wants more regular football then he will need to move on and the club shouldn't stand in his way.

It's just criticism for the sake of criticism now, give it a rest, it's boring.

Now his apparent passing stats are being thrown at him, his role against a side that was always going to have the majority of the play wasn't to spray passes all over the place, we had Varane, Martinez, Bruno and Eriksen in the team for that.

It's almost like some of you have never watched, or understood football before.

United didn't win so it must be Scott's fault, i;m hoping some people just don't realise they are doing it ....

It's also like you can't accept any criticism of a Utd player.

We've all watched football for years we know great players when we see them and McTominay isn't one.

A centre mid needs to control and dominate that area of the park they can do that with or without the ball and for me McTominay does neither. Nothing wrong with him coming in 5-10 games a season if he's happy with that role but if he wants to play regularly he'll need to move on.

I hope Utd can pick up a cup before he and other players move on in the summer.

Huh? I practically encourage fans to criticise De Gea, Shaw, Sancho et al, and Pogba before he ran back to Italy crying.

There is not a person on the planet that says he's a great player, i'd hazard a guess even his parents think he's just above average but that's not the point, United don't get three points and it's all his fault, it's tiresome.

Maybe it's a generational thing, we were all fiercely protective of Academy lads even if we didn't think long-term they were the answer, now to prove we are better fans it's attack the Grads first, proper top red stuff, not.

Or it's 5-10 now, mmmm

Think we all do.

So we have to accept mediocrity because they are a graduate? Come on. Anyone with eyes can see McTominay is an okay player who can on occasion have a great game but overall is a limited player. One of his greatest attributes is his strength but he doesn’t impose himself on games and is far too passive with his passing.

Totally missing the point I was making, and why.

And again there is not a person on the planet that is suggesting he's a nailed-on starter, not a one, so why keep criticising him for his limitations(that we've all been aware of for years) every time he plays, even if we win, I just don't get it, guess it's easy that criticising those that are above criticism though.

Thought he did very well when he came on today, steady in midfied and tracked back well.

Just scored his 3rd goal in 2 games for Scotland. Are we missing something here o_O
A good finish as well to put Scotland one nil up against Spain. Hampden is rockin!!

F*kin hell. He has noewbagged his second double in 2 games to put Scotland 2-0 up against Spain :)

Sell him now while buyers think he might offer something.

Bloody Spanish, how can they lose to Scotland, gutted.
